Terry Rush, Instrumental Music

Terry Rush has an agenda to promote instrumental music.  These are rough notes as a rebuttal to a forum promoting Terry Rush as a guide into the future: we will add more rebuttal in time.  I will add links to the Greek and Latin literature which you can read or ignore. To begin, let me challenge you to find any "religious practice" in the ancient world which did not function as witchcraft to get people aroused to believe a lie and be damned. Furthermore, I challlenge you to find any history which does not MARK gender confused males performing religious music.  Therefore, to impose music contrary to all known evidence is using the "law of silence" which gives the individual the right to speak where God has been silent; and to make that opinion into a law which you should not reject for fear of being branded. Here is Terry's views which represents those of many at the preacher level.  I have emphasized some of it and will discuss it but not before some general background missising at the preacher level.

The Disciples/Christian Church first proposed that 'psallo' MEANS to make music with an instrument when it never means more than pluck with your fingers and NEVER with a plectrum.  In fact, if you used this folly and make melody with anything but a fingered string you VIOLATE their direct command and are a divisive sinner.
  1. They also claimed that God COMMANDED instrumental music in worship in the Old Telstament. Now, they say that if you do NOT then you are disobedien.
  2. There is no evidence that God commanded any kind of "musical" device at any time or place even when He abandoned them to worship the starry host because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai which was a terminal sin.
  3. If God did not command musical instruments then The Holy Spirit of Christ in Jeremiah 23 says that you blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
There are many instances where the fall into the use of instruments told God to stop speaking to them. This is a sin without redemption.

No one can read the Old Testament without understand that David radically changed the roles of the Levites from servants into linen-wearing musicians: God did not do that.  Christ in Ezekiel insists that David's demoting the Zadok priesthood was when the Levites Went Astray.

See How David was chosen to carry out the captivity and death sentence imposed at Mount Sinai and began when the elders fired God and demanded a "senior pastor" to let them worship like the nations.

3.11.11 Logos versus Mythos: Word versus Music Logos (modern) is rational of the word and STRAIGHT: Mythos and Sophia (postmodern) are irrational and Gender-Confused. Mythos Nomoi (traditional law)

Those who willingly infiltrate and impose musical instruments into a peaceable church justify the deliberate sowing of discord based on false teachings of all of the "instrument" passages also preach that GRACE will cover them.

This forum has a Church of Christ thread dedicated to abusing those who do not deliberately reject the clear teaching of the Word and recorded history. A common lie is that the Church Fathers had nothing bad to say about the use of instruments based on Scripture. We have refuted that to prove that NO ONE used instruments in the churches but refute the Jews who did because they had been abandoned to Canaanite Baalism or the worship of the starry host.

Terry Rush: Our people are so tied up in knots trying to sort through the church lingo that many have all but given up on sharing the good news with their neighbor because they can't keep the story straight.
All know God is against man-made doctrine, yet we've accepted with open arms this Trojan horse. Enormous strain develops in trying to assure ourselves that much of our doctrine did not come from man but from God  Himself.

As far as evangelistic effectiveness is concerned, we live in fundamental neutral. How can we remember how it goes when the Word really isn't there to show our neighbor?

Terry Rush: 1.  Our hermeneutic is made up: Man created it to claim the texts he wanted and to somehow dismiss those he doesn't. Hermeneutic is not a biblical term and was never taught by God.

Peter in 2 Peter 1 outlaws private interpretation which means "further expounding."  That is because the Bible as our left "memory" was inspired by eye and ear witnesses and because in 2 Peter 2 it is the MARK of a false teacher.  Jesus called the MEN of that time CHILDREN who piped hoping to get others to sing and dance the perverted, new wineskin initiation of Dionysus or Orpheus.

The "Direct Command", "Example", and "Necessary Inference" passages seem to have melted.
Look at it. Necessary Inference? That's what man does to get his way when the Bible won't back it. One can claim, "Well, at least it's inferred."

You might be interested that God, all historic scholars and founders of denominations PERMITTED God to command, example and inferences.  A believer cannot INFER the use of music when God has EXCLUDED it.

Terry Rush: 2. Our stance on instrumental music is wrong: Man created this doctrine which makes it a toughy if we are going to share the true doctrine with our neighbors.

Instrumental music was not an issue in the first century church because it wasn't an issue with God. Instuments of worship are not new. They were abundantly available back in Jesus and Paul's day.

If you can read BLACK text on BROWN Paper you can hear a universal demand to put down the performers BEFORE you can hold ekklesia or School of the Bible.

Terry missed the old testament.
 After the fall from grace because of musical idolatry, Christ ordained the Qahal, synagogue or Church in the wilderness.  

It was INCLUSIVE of Rest, Reading and Rehearsing the Word of God.
It was EXCLUSIVE of vocal or instrumental rejoicing.
 

See how the Church or Synagogue existed in its pre-kingdom period to quarantine the godly from music and elevated forms of speech.

Did they not pick up on this potential threat and address it....at least once?


As a matter of fact it was prophecied and attempted that Judas would musically try to triumph over Jesus to put Him to silence.  See how the Dead Sea Version of Psalm 41 makes it clear that instruments are weapons used even against God.

So, do you not think it odd that such an element is present at the time of the N.T. writings, yet they never discussed it? Were they afraid to? Didn't they have some crossover issues from the old covenant to the new? It could be this was not an issue then and they didn't expect to be now.

Probably simple simon understood that THEY didn't attend any sacrifical slaughter where music was to "make the lambs dumb before the slaughter." They attended synagogue and from a life of hearing PREACHING which meant READING the Word each rest day, they would understand that musical noises were outlawed.

Furthermore, they knew that religious music was the arena of the prostitute or sodomite as clergy in the pagan religions.  Jesus cast out the musical minstrels "like dung" and consigned the pipers, singers and instrument players to the marketplace along with the other pollutants.

3. Authority of Silence of the Scriptures is surely created by man. It seems very important to some as this guides their doctrinal stances. Where does the Word address it? I believe argumentative Christians made this one up to get their way when they couldn't get it any other. Those who stick by their guns on this one abandon it quickly when it comes to justifying the millions they spend on church buildings....of which the Word is silent

That's true but God was not silent about musical instruments as a mark of all of the enemies of Christ or the Logos or Word.  Beginning with Lucifer as the singing and harp-playinng prostitute in the garden of Eden, up to the Babylon mother of harlots (Rev 17) who used the lusted after FRUITS (same ones Amos warned about) as speakers, singers and instrument players, they are called SORCERERS (Rev 18).

The SILENCE patternism was invented by the Disciples: because God hath not commanded THOU SHALT NOT USE INSTRUMENTS they had the liberty to IMPOSE instruments and YOU did not have the right to resist.

We would expect those views to come from a musical worship merchant but that preachers can float upward without having the Biblical or historical background should cause us to worry. But, not if we have read either the Bible or church history.  Perhaps those defending legalistic machine worship are tied up in knots because they have been outed. For instance, representing universal history of religious music:

Aristotle on Politics 1339a and ALL of recorded history agrees:

And the usual contempt for the audience (congregation).

Terry Rush says of all non-instrumental Churches of Christ:
  1. We cannot keep our story straight and use up all of our energy.
  2. Our hermeneutic is made up.
  3. Our stance on instrumental music is wrong.
  4. Authority or Silence of Scriptures is surely created by man.
That's kinda true: the Disciples of Christ first claimed the Law of Silence to PERMIT adding something not commaned and known to sow discord.
You don't need to be legalistis to just obey the direct commands of Christ who is NEVER silen.

If Scripture no longer has any authority then assuredly we should quit paying people for claiming to be "gospel preachers."  It is a fact that those who have denied that there is any evidence for against instruments at the same time claim that in this "postmodern" age there is no such thing as truth.  Therefore, this review which answers all of the sowers of discord is based on the thesis that the Bible is the only resource to justify being A Church of Christ.

No one in history thought that melody or the Greek Psallo had any musical meaning but was used as late as 1878 by the Disciples of Christ.

ALL of the proof-texts used by the NACC agents using psallo to authorize diverting peaceable churches identify older males plucking the harp in order to seduce a young man whose hairs had been "plucked" and been emasculated.

The primary meaning of psallo connects to warfare and Apollo or the Apollyon of Revelation who uses the Muses (prostitutes) as his musical worship team. The second major connection is to MARK those who dallied in the marketplace where Jesus consigned the pipers, singers and dancer.  The polluted rope twitched them so they would be MARKED when they were forced to the ekklesia for verbal instruction only.  

Only in an metaphorical sense is Psallo used of "shooting fortth hymns."

The latest ploy--100 years later after the Churches of Christ refused to be counted as part of the "organ and society party" a new effort is based on the claim that "God commanded instrumental praise and we should not be disobedient." This is within the context that simple singing is NOT WRONG. 

It is probably true that no one on the discording preacher level knows that Israel fell from Grace because of Musical idolatry and the monarchy, king, temple and sacrificial system is explained by Stephen as "God turned them over to worship the starry host." We know that the fatal blow was when the tribal elders fired God and demanded a central king "like the nations." God understood that to mean "so we can worship like the nations." That is why He gave them kings in His anger and took the away in His anger.

The next First Principle is that throughout the Old Testament and confirmed in the new is that the Spirit OF Christ spoke through the prophets. The prophets -- and therefore the Christ of God -- were hostile to the kingly-priestly religion and most of those prophets utterly repudiate any kind of music as the work of "hypocrites" in the employ of a national sacrificial system quite identical to that of Babylon and Egypt.

The problem is derived from a new attempt to bond the Old and New Testament as equal in authority for faith and practice.  If so, the best place to begin is to listen to a tiny sample of the universal condemnation of the monarchy as "an experiment in the idolatry of nationhood" which God warned woud impose slavery and destruction.

EDWARD FUDGE'S COMMENTS

Because Edward Fudge promotes the false dogma of "musical worship" in the templeand under the Monarchy, any clearing up of the almost total "knowledge base" at the preacher levea, we quote giving false assurance to an honest seeker.  Here is why I have chosen Terry Rush's review to do some background which was missed in Acts 7 when Stephen got killed for telling the clergy that it was BECAUSE of musical idolatry that God turned them over to worship the starry hosts.

"For many of us, however, unaccompanied singing is a tradition, not a matter of scriptural requirement. The earliest Jewish believers in Jesus continued to worship in the Temple (Acts 2:46; 3:1), where instruments were used. The New Testament endorses the singing of Psalms (Eph. 5:19), which call for instruments of all sorts and kinds (Psalm 92:1-4; 150:3-5). The very word translated "Psalm" originally meant a song sung with a stringed instrument. It later included an unaccompanied song, but it kept its original meaning as well. Revelation, though symbolic, pictures harps in heavenly worship (Rev. 14:2-3).

It is a historical fact that singing as an ACT was added and caused discord as late as ad 373.  This was added because the Syriac Bishop wanted to impose his own "psalms" on the church.   McClintock and Strong says that the musical precentor was "the first heresy largely pervading the church." Therefore, the question is how musical can you get without violating the direct commands to speak the Word of God with one mind and one mouth.

As far as I can confirm from David Lipscomb's statement: "No one in history prior to 1878 ever tried to prove that psallo had any musical worship connection to the church." The Disciples became a MUSICAL sect and became the EXCEPTION to the rule.  Something consistent with direct commands and historical precident can hardly be slandered off as "just our tradition."   Not even Jesus could enter into the covered spaces of the temple.

Edward will find no historical scholarship which does not connect all musical practices to the paganism to which God abandoned the ELITE of Israel because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.  Indeed, at the preaching level which has rejected "teaching the word as it has been taught" there is no reason to expect that they would know the facts. The Sacrificial system had officially ended shortly after the Return and the synagogue organized as the Church in the Wilderness continued and the temple became a pagan worship center. The temple was HEROD'S temple and the clergy were hired hands mostly Edomites of the Shaggy Goats Daniel warned about.

Jesus never entered into the temple which would have gotten Him executes. No Levitical singer cound enter into the Temple without getting murdered.  The Holy Place as a type of the body or Church of Christ was OFF LIMITS to singers and instrument players.

Paul used the word SPEAK in relationship to the PSALMS and SPEAK was defined as the "opposite of poetry or music." The Psalms were not metrical and you could NOT sing them tunefully if your life depended on it.  Only 50 of the Psalms were MIZMORS available to the common people and NONE of these speak of an instrument.

No one PLAYS harps in Revelation: all of the SOUNDS LIKE speak of warning and panic created by warfare.
And I heard a voice from heaven

When you HEAR these warning SOUNDS where they are also AUDIBLE it is a final warning IF you are literally and spiritually still alive:

The Latin maleficia is maleficium 1. Fraud, deception, adulteration 4 A hired mourner: The "præficæ" were the women who chanted the "nænia" .

Praeficae Women who were hired to act as mourners at Roman funerals (Plaut. Truc.ii. 6 Truc., 14). They went before the corpse, with their heads bared, their locks disheveled, uttering cries of lamentation and chanting dirges (neniae)

The SERIVCE of the Levitical musicians meant "hard bondage" with the same meaing as Abaddon or Apollyon in Revelation.  They made WAR and would never be permitted to perform in the Qahal, synagogue or "church in the wilderness."

It is fitting that the end time religion is the same as the beginning with false teachers bringing you under bondage with clergy musicians.

It is fulfilment of prophecy that when people reject the Word of God they are sent a strong delusion and cannot see the repudiation of music trying to worship a Spirit God from the "singing and harp playing prostitute" in the garden of Eden to the mother of harlots (Rev 17) who USES "lusted after fruits" as rhetoricians, singers and instrument players whom John called sorcerers.
BUILDING THE FOUNDATION: The people were Quarantined from Sacrificial System added as part of the worship of the starry host to which God had abandoned the nation.
  1. As a Covenant of Grace God gave The Book of the Covenant to govern the nation.
Israel fell fatally from Grace because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.
  1. God turned them over to worship the starry host (Acts 7 and a dozen more passages)
  2. God burdened them with The Book of The Law and the Levites to "bear the burdens of sin."
  3. The Abrahamic Covenant was lost and the First Born sons replaced.
  4. No one not of Levi and not specificially ordained could COME NEAR the Tabernacle without sinning.
Because the false teachers REST on the curse of the Law and the Monarchy, the elders, preachers and artistic performers would die if they ventured in or near the area of animal slaughter.

Furthermore, no Levite, used as Warrior Noise makers
a
nd later under the king and commanders of the army--could come near the holy places of the sanctury or they would be executed. The patternism is that if a musician enters into the body of Christ as fulfilment of the Holy Place he / she / it is worthy of death.

Num 18:2 And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister BEFORE the tabernacle of witness. [never IN]

Nadab and Abihu violates several commandments.

All of the non-Levites were called STRANGERS: therefore, if you were not of the tribe of Levi with the assignment to serve you could not even minister to the priests outside of the Temple-proper.  Therefore, no member of the "church" could come near the Tabernacle and none of the "ministers" could ENTER it.

"A stranger," that is, one, neither a priest nor a Levite, who should intrude into any departments of the sacred office, should incur the penalty of death. ROBERT JAMIESON

Num 18:4 And they shall be joined unto thee,
        and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation,
        for all the servic
e [hard, legalistic bondage] of the tabernacle:
        and a stranger shall not come nigh unto you.

The sacrificial system was NEVER the spiritual worship but part of the WRATH DISPELLING curse imposed because of Musical idolatry.

Num 18:5 And ye shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar:
        that there be no wrath any more upon the children of Israel.

Contrary to being a spiritual worship service, the sacrificial system had been imposed and if it were not performed it would bring down God's wrath as punishment due for NOT performing what they had been abandoned to.

Num 18:6 And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel:
         to you they are given as a gift for the LORD,
         to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
 

Num 18:7 Therefore thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priest’s office for every thing of the altar,
        and within the veil; and ye shall serve: I have given your priest’s office unto you as a service of gift:

        and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

"And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. Numbers 18:21

That also removes any modern cleric from imposing the tithe.

THE MEANING OF PARASITES MARKED BY THE PROPHETS BY THE SPIRITOF CHRIST

Because God had abandoned Israel to "worship the starry hosts" we understand that the Levites became a burden and not a blessing to the nation.

Parasītus (parasitos,
“table companion”). A word which among the Greeks denoted originally the priest's assistant, who, like the priest, received his support from the offerings made to the temple, in return for certain services. These services included the collection and care of supplies of corn due to the temple, assistance at certain sacrifices, and the preparation of the banquets connected with [p. 1175] certain festivals. The assistants of civil officials, who were maintained at the expense of the State, were also called parasites in many places. The word received another meaning in the Middle and New Greek comedy, where it means the hanger on, who plays the flatterer and buffoon, with a view to getting invited to dinner. The parasite was transferred as a standing character to the Roman imitations of Greek comedy, and figures largely in the plays of Plautus. Rev. 18:22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;

Rev. 18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries [pharmakeia] were all nations deceived.

It is like an addiction. In fact, the mechanism of sacred violence is similar to taking drugs. The Greek word, pharmakos, that we might best translate as "scapegoat" (because it designated one who was expelled from the community), is obviously related to the Greek word for "drug," pharmakon

The idea is the same behind both. A drug is a poison that, given the right circumstance and precisely the right dosage, can also be a remedy. Sacred violence is a violence -- and violence is ordinarily poisonous to us -- that, given the right circumstance and precisely the right dosage, can also be a remedy against 'bad' mimetic violence. 

Yet addiction builds as the system builds immunity to the drug. Addiction to sacred violence can escalate as the Gospel immunity to it builds within our systems.  René Girard

They also built altars in the surrounding cities of Judah,

Notice in verse 59 that this desolating sacrilege could be another altar placed upon the regular altar for burnt offerings.

See how MEN Jesus compared to CHILDREN have turned "school of the Bible" to a polluted marketplace.
The sacrificial system was imposed on the Levites as a curse or burden.

Num 18:23 But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation,
        and they shall bear their iniquity:
        it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations,
        that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.

Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day,

Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them;
       but they will not hearken to thee:
       thou shalt also call unto them;

Amos 5:26 BUT ye have borne the tabernacle of your and Moloch and Chiun [#666] your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

They burned infants to the beat of instruments in 2 Chron 28 just before the PURGE and EXORCISM and in chapter 30 just AFTER Hezekiah's ceremony SOLELY to get the priests to return to Jerusalem to help defend it.

Amos 5:27 Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity
beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

This was the sentence conditionally imposed because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.  Canaan as the promised land became the Killing Fields as God let the kings lead them into captivity and death.

Furthermore, all of the performing arts are identified as the Hypocritic arts and because they produced nothing good and caused lots of destruction of morals they were called PARASITES.

Why are people so anxious to impose the CURSE  of hypocrites and parasites.

NEHEMIAH IDENTIFYING THE PARASITES

The False preachers also missed that the Spirit OF Christ spoke ONLY through the prophets: it is a lie that the "holy spirit" guided the elders and preachers to lie about all of the Bible. The prophets thought that the kings, our princes, our priests, and  our fathers were lawless parasites. 

So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would. Neh 9:24

And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance:
so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat,
and delighted
[became soft, lived voluptuously]
themselves in thy great goodness.
Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee,
          and cast thy law behind their backs,
          and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee,
          and they wrought great provocations. Neh 9:26

THIS HAS HAPPENED ALL OVER: false teachers fall back to the Law to get authority to be a "king set over us" and absolutely silence the Spirit of Christ speaking through the prophets.  Maybe it is time, with Nehemiah and Jesus, to declare that the rascals are parasites and cast them out.

Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them. Neh 9:34

For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works. Neh 9:35

Behold, we are servants this day, [and so are you]
       
and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof,
        behold, we are servants in it: Neh 9:36

And it yieldeth 
        much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us 

        because of our sins
      
  also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle,
        at their pleasure
        and we are in great distress. Neh 9:37

Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, 
        they have trodden my portion under foot,
        they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness
Jer. 12:10  

       They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns
        they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: 
        and they shall be ashamed of your revenues 
        because of the fierce anger of the Lord. Je.12:13

That is THE meaning of having a Senior Pastor set over you with no Biblical nor common sensical justification.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED

Speaking of dominant pastors now replacing the elders and firing the deacons:

"The pastor is not a necessity. He is a FUNGUS GROWTH upon the church, the body of Christians, DWARFING its growth, PREVENTING its development of its members; and until the church GETS RID of him it will NEVER prosper as it should. In the Bible we can find all the necessities.

"I can testify from my own observation that a good eldership will lose its efficiency, and its members become both UNABLE and UNWILLING to do the work of elders, in a very few years after the employment of a pastor. And if under the pastor system a good eldership has ever developed, I have never seen or heard of the case. I don't believe that has or ever will be done." --James A. Balatro

A professional jester, buffoon, or parasite. In spite of the difference of quantity, balatro is probably connected with balare (to bleat like a sheep) and hence, to speak foolishly. It is donbtless also akin to blatero, a chatterer (Gell.i. 15). Balatrones were paid for their jests, and the tables of the wealthy were generally open to them for the sake of the amusement they afforded. See Scurra; Parasitus.

John Chrysostom proves that this was a CURSE and was quarantined ONLY to Jerusalem and then for a very short time.

Because they were abandoned to worship the Starry Host and never able to worship the Creator again, you should look at the form of worship Israel brought with them as abominations out of Egypt. This form of musical "ritualism" was invented by the pagan deities always MARKED by loud music. 

Plato Ion 534a continues to speak of the female musical worship team - the Muses:

For the poets tell us, I believe, that the songs they bring us are the sweets they cull from honey-dropping founts [534b] in certain gardens and glades of the Muses [prostitute singers in Rev 18 John called sorcerers]--

like the bees, and winging the air as these do.1 And what they tell is true. (Plato then explains a lot of musical worship and even preaching out of their own head)

"For a poet is a light and winged and sacred thing, and is unable ever to indite until he has been inspired and put out of his senses, and his mind is no longer in him: every man, whilst he retains possession of that, is powerless to indite a verse or chant an oracle. Rhetoricians fell under the same band when they ventured away from clear SPEAK and SAY and began possessed.

I have posted a quick parallel view of the connection between religious musicians and fruits. There are many but Amos 8 and Revelation defines the Mother of Harlots using "lusted after fruits" as rhetoricians, singers and musicians which John identified as sorcerers. This will become a commentary on Amos which proves that when you hear INSTRUMENTS anywhere--including Revelation-- it is the MARK of impending Judgement and the "other" angel commands those still living (real or spiritually) to PREACH THE GOSPEL.  You cannot preach "that which is written" with music. Besides agents of the NACC masked under UNITY has been a primary means of defending instruments as the BASIS of unity, the Stone-Campbell Movement founded shortly after the last break with the Disciples has been a major stalking horse to force instruments to restore unity between two groups with radically different roots and NEVER joined in any sense after the first "society" attempt and the adding of Organs which made simply meeting together without discussing the differences impossible.

Of course, unity to the NACC and all of their false writers is that you AFFIRM their view of instruments or CONFORM by adding instruments.  Wade Hodges prefers to sell peacable churches of Christ by IMPOSING instruments knowing that they will sow discord. Hey, a church in the NACC corner with the loss of half its members is a lot better than building their own.  All Restoration writers make it clear that the mask of UNITY is an intention to STEAL a church house.  Hardeman used the term "steal" of the one stolen church in Nashville during the Hardeman-Boswell debate THRUST upon the Disciples after they tried to use UNITY to subvert preachers with a free O. E. Payne book which is the major source of false teachings.
From Wade Hodges: I’ve been asked a number of times what I hoped would come out of the reconciliation and unity celebrations that occurred at events like the Tulsa Workshop and NACC. I kept saying I hoped it would lead to some concrete demonstrations of unity beyond getting together for a worship assembly.
  1. The NACC has convinced a few that the Church of Christ sected out of the Christian church in 1906.
  2. For that reason they have mounted many "unity meetings" all intended to subvert what they call the ANTI-instrument churches into being INSTRUMENTAL thereby making unity possible. That is why the Tulsa Workshop has always been a stalking horse for the NACC.
  3. Any hope for EVEN COOPERATIVE work between the Disciples and Church of Christ ended in 1849 when the first attempt at collecting everyone into one denomination began.  Further division within the DISCIPLES continued when they imposed instruments.  Churches known as The Church of Christ have never differed over rejecting instruments along with their 2,000 year history.
  4. Close to the end of the century the Disciples were still trying to get the Churches of Christ to "join the society and organ party."
  5. In 1906 the Census Bureau knew that the Church of Christ should not be included as property of the Disciples. The Christian Church was Disciples at the time.
  6. Beginning in 1927 through 1971 the NACC sected out of the Disciples. That means that the Christian Church came into existence about 6 decades after the Church of Christ just denied that they were disciples.
  7. Therefore, the false and dishonest thesis of "unity" is the same old sheep stealing.
All such "unity" meetings are invitations for the instrumentalist to present their view with no intention of taking note that the "proofs" ignore the context and story line and all of the "psallo" proofs point to warfare or to perverted males seducing young males: this is why Paul put the "plucking" in the heart and not young boys and further equated "melody" to "grace" in Colossians 3.

Terry Rush: Our people are so tied up in knots trying to sort through the church lingo that many have all but given up on sharing the good news with their neighbor because they can't keep the story straight
The good news is "come to me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." The laded burden is specificially the singing which "creates spiritual anxiety through religious rituals." At the same time Jesus fired the laded burdens or "doctors of the Law."  The REST He promised specificially means to "STOP the speaking, singing, and stop playing instruments all of which create panic or spiritual anxiety.

The knots and blowing the winds have been manufactured by men who have been used by the instrmentalists to do "unity meetings" and "soul winning workshops." They set up a debate between Church of Christ INSTRUMENTALISTS and Christian Church INSTRUMENTALISTS. Even so, Terry uses the discording mantra of YOU ARE FAILURES so that people dare not defend the BIBLE as opposed to preachers as skillful rhetoricans but NOT Disciples of Christ.

What is so strange about SAYING that making melody IN the heart is NOT making melody upon a harp. The caveman child understand that SPEAK does not mean MUSIC which demands singing AND dancing.
Terry Rush: All know God is against man-made doctrine, yet we've accepted with open arms this Trojan horse. Enormous strain develops in trying to assure ourselves that much of our doctrine did not come from man but from God Himself.
Because, the Spirit of Christ EXCLUDED vocal or instrumental rejoicing for the "church in the wilderness" we oul have to find proof that He violated His own direct command and all history which shows the spiritual israelites quarantined from the curse of the sacrificial system.  He will never find the godly people ever worshiping with singing and instrumental accompaniment so no one in the Jewish world ever even hallucinated music as part of the church.

As far as this writer and all known history, music was a Satan or Lucifer invented instruments to bleed off worship from God and His word. Terry will find no other evidence.

The Marzeah in Amos 5

The marzeah was a pagan ritual that took the form of a social and religious association... All history knows that "music" is the Trojan horse used to shut down the rational or spiritual mind to slip the enemy into the walls withut rational thinking.

What is troubling to people who have read the Bible and Restoration history is the man-made doctrine of preaching as in sermonizing without knowing or caring what the Bible speaks.

In fact, the second major use of the Psallo word has to do with the polluted rope used to MARK those who dallied around the Agora. They would show up at the ekklesia (church) as totally polluted.

In Romans 14 Paul left the diversities in the market-place where much of the diet word also defines musical sects which made place for the parasites which was a synonym for an instrumentalist who would do ANYTHING to get on the chicken dinner circuit.

Because of the susceptibility of this
enervation of mind: aton-ia or asthen-eia without dipping his pen Paul outlawed self-pleasure or the "creation of mental excitement" which afflicts the weak and infirm and points to the "reproaches" prophesied of Jesus which meant musical mocking and exposing his private parts.  This is obvious to readers of Psalm 41. The version at the Dead Sea is much more explic in proving that mocking means musically. Lucifer as "the singing and harp-playing prostitute" in the garden of Eden and Nimrod down to modern science knows that music induces the impulses of fight, flight or sexuality: that's why people are willing to deliberately sow discord to USE music and musicians.

Terry is defining obeying the direct command of the Spirit OF Christ for the "church in the wildernes" a man-made doctrine.  Fact is, there was never any preaching in the synagogue or church so there was no 'collection plate' to feed Terry while sows discord.  The Synagogue existed side-by-side with the Temple State ABANDONED to Sabazianism or Dionysus worship. Fact is, Jesus exampled standing up to READ in the synagogue and decently sitting down without becomming a buffoon which is the MARK of God's Wrath. Fact is, there was no singing for  almost 400 years.
Terry Rush: As far as evangelistic effectiveness is concerned, we live in fundamental neutral. How can we remember how it goes when the Word really isn't there to show our neighbor?
An evangelist goes: there is no such thing as a located travelling salesman!  Evangelists have a GO button.  The command of Jesus was to make disciples by preaching the gospel.  You cannot possibly ATTRACT disciples pledged to be despised and rejected of men and put out the honey to attract butterflies. What Terry is speaking of is AUDIENCE to support an unlawful priesthood by an unlawful "law of giving" which on the face of it is legalistic.

I would say that those who rather than moving on have decided to lie about the music issue have tried to put everyone in reverse--back to the towers of babbling or to what Paul warned about in Corinth about those known as the Mad Women. That is why the MUSIC paradigm means to set out males equally attractive to both sexes or females exercising the AUTHENTIA authority which is both erotic and murderous.

Following O.E.Payne who collected many historical quotes using the word Psallo, Tom Burgess is probably the latest to use these texts to prove that the word psall demands the use of instruments in Christian worship. This was such a "female" concept that even David is noted for his "initiation" and that when a male fell into this abused and abusive act such as singing and playing "he was drunk, homosexual or 'just having fun'."  You know, like males playing dress up.

Don't forget that Revelation 17 identifies the Mother of Harlots and in Revelation 18 identifies the FRUITS and the "musicians" meaning the Muses and all instrument players as sorcerers: real and virtual prostitution.
The MUSES were always the performers for Apollo or the Abaddon or Apollyon in Revelation. In the area of Patmos the Mother of Harlots was Circe (church) and the Muses were identified as the Locusts who put you to sleep and give you the sting of death with their scorpion's tail.

How can you SPEAK the Gospel with instruments when SPEAK is the opposite of poetry or music. Only a 'conversational style' was permitted in the ekklesia and the rhetoricians, singers, musicians, dancers and sellers of SELVES and radishes was quarantined to the Agora with the PSALLO ROPE..
Terry Rush: 1.  Our hermeneutic is made up: Man created it to claim the texts he wanted and to somehow dismiss those he doesn't. Hermeneutic is not a biblical term and was never taught by God.

The "Direct Command", "Example", and "Necessary Inference" passages seem to have melted.

Look at it. Necessary Inference? That's what man does to get his way when the Bible won't back it.  One can claim, "Well, at least it's inferred."

Only Terry's generation has denied God the right to command, example and infer: something Terry reserves for himself.   Jesus exampled ONLY reading the Word in the synagogue. Paul commanded the word SPEAK which includes both poetry or music.  Only myth mongers were permitted to write poems and song and were not trusted with real history.  That is why Paul commanded and history observed speaking or "singing" that which is written.

Terry cannot find a single passage to prove that musical instruments were commanded, exampled or even inferred for the people who met in the Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness. Terry, cannot quote any imagined text supplied by "changelings" which does not lie: it is intentional because they intend to sow discord while being ignorant of the context and story line.  The only other option is unspeakable.

Because Terry is working with people from the NACC he may believe their Anglican  / Catholic Heritage where the HIGH CHURCH has the authority to use changed culture and not be "strict constructionists" for defining faith and practice. While that was and is the view of the Disciples, those used to divert churches of Christ still laugh about us being 'strict constructionists' not knowing that evolution makes reading the Bible impossible.  Fact is, the Church of England nor anyone but their Catholic mother ever voted for the High Church view.

Those who promote instruments use the high church view of the Disciples who never pretended to have or need Biblical authority to add institutions and instruments: the driven purpose well documented is that it would bring in more money.

The Bible and all recorded history disagrees with Terry Rush.

Terry permits the authority to COMMAND, EXAMPLE AND INFER that he is CORRECT about musical instruments when he DENIES that God has that authority when he used the Spirit OF Christ in the PROPHETS to totally repudiate the use of MUSIC as a mark that 'WE HAVE NO INTENTION OF LISTENING to the Words of God.' 

Balaam demonstrated a high ethical standard when he said:

There is no ROLE in the "school of the Bible" or ekklesia other than to SAY what the Lord has said.  No humanoid can IMPROVE that by going to rhetoric school to learn a bisexual way to attract everyone.

Peter outlawed "further expounding" which means to make Scripture into sermon fodder and corrupt it meaning to "sell learning at retail" which word means adultry.  You are commanded to "sing" that which is written and teach that which has been taught. Bible Card Class.

God makes "retailing" which requires "adding too" something God has not taught worthy of death. God as "father" thought and the "son" spoke those words: that is the meaning of "spirit without measure" meaning truth from God.

That PROVES that anyone who teaches anything that the WORD spoke from the FATHER within and as revealed by the Spirit OF Christ to the Apostles has PASSED from life to death and is worthy of execution.  Zechariah identifies the "bowing to Baal prophesiers" who were musical frantics. After the signs following Pentecost, anyone who continued to try to manipulate people with music should be executed by their parents!

And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits (Old, empty wineskins), and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter (these people used musical devices and said that the gods lived inside of them): should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? Isaiah 8:19

The LAW of inferences or SILENCE is used only by the instrumentalists: they make it certain that "There is no LAW which saith 'thou shalt not play instruments in the Bible class' so we gonn use them KNOWING and planning for sowing discord and counting the costs.

Those doing "a school of Christ" as the Campbells agreed with Jesus, Paul and early history do not NEED to infer: the direct command it to SPEAK and the word SPEAK in the 'ekklesia' is defined as the OPPOSITE of poetry or music. You don't NEED a law to silence instruments when Jesus speaks when the elders "teach that which has been taught" and we "sing that which is written."

The CENI is well developed in the Bible and is defended by most historic church Scholars and all founders of denominations. The High Church notion of the Angiical-derived Disciples did not NEED any authority other than "will it make money." Only after they had stopped the RM in its track did the try to make PSALLO their authority for the organ. However, the scholars did not defend them.


All of that small band of men use the same mantra. They hesitate not a second to blame the "sectarian church of Christ" for INVENTING the "no instruments" position because the were "mean, southern, rednecked andignorant.  No one allowed to get out of the institute can say that out of ignorance. I have to conclude that they don't know and just wiggle their lips when their handlers pull the strings.

The Bible begins the discussion with lucifer who was "the singing and harp playing prostitute" in the garden of Eden, and using the SERPENT word which identifies the NAGA agent as a "Musical

No founder of a denomination failed to grasp the evil influence of music. They do not know that the Catholics NEVER did congregtional singing with an organ to accompany.

Terry Rush: 2. Our stance on instrumental music is wrong: Man created this doctrine which makes it a toughy if we are going to share the true doctrine with our neighbors.
One wonders why all of the Bible associates instruments with "Lucifer the singing and harp playing prostitute" in the garden of eden, with warriors, sacrificial exorcists, prostitutes and Sodomites as well as many examples of them being a mark of telling God to shut His Mouth.  The godly Israelites NEVER worshipped with instruments which were outlawed for their synagogues or "church in the wilderness." On wonders why all known historical scholars repudiate Terry Rush as well as all of the founders of religious groups.  Not even the Catholics ever fell into "congregational singing with organ accompaniment."

One supposes that Jesus was ignorant when he cast out the musical minstrels "like dung" proving that He needed no magic to help the young girl. One supposes that Jesus was not informed when He commanded those willing to be evangelists to GO and preach the gospel. You cannot preach but you can hide the gospel with music.

Then the whole Bible and most of church history is wrong: no one sang or played for almost 400 years and the Catholics say they got MUSIC because it was "common to all pagan cults." No pretense of getting it from the Bible.
Terry Rush: 2. Instrumental music was not an issue in the first century church because it wasn't an issue with God. Instuments of worship are not new. They were abundantly available back in Jesus and Paul's day.

For those not blinded to the word there are many examples in the New Testament denouncing the "frenzy" always incited with musical instruments--almost always percussion even with harps.

The instruments of worship were only in pagan religions such as that of Babylon where they originated. God abandoned the Israelites to worship the starry host way back at Mount Sinai BECAUSE of musical idolatry.  All of the Old Testament proves that the instruments of NOISE were like all pagan sacrificial systems--exorcism.

A musical instrument is defined as a "machine for doing hard work primarily in warfare and in creating the shock and awe of pagan temples."  The Levitical Warrior "musicians" did service or HARD BONDAGE.  No one in the Old Testament is said to have worshiped with instruments. In fact the loud noise was a signal to fall on your face or be gone. They PROPHESIED with musical instruments.

The first problem occurred when the doxologies of the Bible which were like Psalms were replaced by "a great number of spontaneous and highly individualized doxologies."
........ However, the non-Biblical responses were ratified and codified at the second synod of Vaison in 529.

This writing of their own "song book" virtually destroyed spontaneous or Biblical worship.

However, sectarian introduction of any thing not Biblical is almost always based on commercial interest (more attendees, etc.)

  1. The Spirit OF Christ who outlawed vocal and instrumental rejoicing in the "church in the wildernes" after God had abandoned the "national" or kingly-clergy over to musical idolatry BECAUSE of musical idolatry at Mount.
  2. The synagogue for the faithful "never had a praise service" and the noise-making instruments of the Warrior Levites was restricted to in and around the "national" temple and no where else on the whole world. Regular people would die if they came near.
  3. For hundreds of years the only "national" use of instruments was by imported non-Jews because the faithful males refused to "wear the hat of hermes" to perform including the Abomination of Desolation.
  4. But, for disciples, the Spirit Of Christ addressed MUSIC in prophecy and was musically mocked to the Cross.
  5. There was NO MUSIC for the synagogue, Jesus built His synagogue or ekklesia, so WHO would hallucinate the use of MUSIC in the synagogue.  Its absence does not mean that God did not care any more than the absence of dancing and sex in the church does not mean that God CANNOT have an opinion.
  6. Paul outlawed the SELF-pleasure of the musical sects known for what the used for food. That means "creating mental excitement" which Simple Simons know NOT to do in church.  The word absolute OUTLAWS instruments if you read Paul's knowledge base.

So, do you not think it odd that such an element is present at the time of the N.T. writings, yet they never discussed it? Were they afraid to? Didn't they have some crossover issues from the old covenant to the new? It could be this was not an issue then and they didn't expect to be now.
Well, in fact they did.  Psalm 41 prophesied that Judas would try to TRIUMPH over Jesus: that is the "vocal and instrumental rejoicing" outlawed for the church in the wilderness.  The Judas Bag was for carrying the mouthpieces of instruments. Then Jesus cast out the musical minstrels meaning "more or less violently" or "as one casts out dung." Then, Jesus consigned the pipers, singers and dancers to the marketplate where they sold speaking, singing, playing and selling bodies.

When Paul commanded speak for the school of the Bible the word is "opposite of poetry or music" which was always several removes from truth and disturbed the spirit.  The gongs and clangs of 1 Cor 13 point to warfare, sorcery or to the "virtual" pipe organ in the theater.

The synagogue Jesus endorsed had music outlawed as the church in the wilderness. The Temple State abandoned by God to Sabazianism or the worship of the Astrial deities, was like all of the national temples which were for the king and clergy. No Simple Simon kid would have dared sing or play or dance in the synagogue and they all knew that the MUSIC concept marked pagan and perverted religion. This was the Abomination of Desolation in Jerusalem where Zeus and Dionysus identifed perverted staff who were NOT true Jews.

This claim that the New Testament is silent about instruments has to be "strongly delusional." ALL of the false claims are hand fed from the NACC:

Terry Rush: 3. Authority of Silence of the Scriptures is surely created by man. It seems very important to some as this guides their doctrinal stances. Where does the Word address it? I believe argumentative Christians made this one up to get their way when they couldn't get it any other.
Beginning with the Bible, all church fathers and founders of denominations rely on the commands, examples and inferences of the Word of God for those who have a love for the truth.  Grace is a code word meaning: "We gonna do a legalistic end run" by denying God the authority they TAKE for themselves--and pay them too.

Anyone who has used the Law of Silence--without needing too--almost always did so by those demanding to GET THEIR WAY by imposing musical instruments knowing that they were sowing discord.   You NEED no "law" to keep on NOT doing what you have NEVER done and that which is intended to SOW DISCORD and steal their "money tree."

Jesus explaining SPIRIT SPEAK explains why purely mercinaries would NEVER hear the truth because they lack the power to read black text on white paper.  Paul told the Roman Jews that they had LOST that power at Mount Sinai.

It is true about spending millions on buildings and false teachers but if the church did everything wrong, that would not prove that God is silent: that through Divine ignorance He left a hole in the donut to be corrected by "doctors of the Law" Whom Jesus said "take away the key to knowledge."

Wishful thinking! The Spirit of Christ commanded "teaching that which had been delivered to them" even in the church in the wilderness. It matters not whether you stand in in the snow or build a cover. The one is both inclusive and exclusive: the buildings were approved by the synagogue which was not a "worship center" or "a theater for holy entertainment." Preaching in fact was outlawed other than reading and explaining the READ text.

The old "God didn't authorize toilet tissue" argument!  First, any reader of the Bible from end to end knows that God was NOT silent about music.  Secondly, the purpose driving the synagogue or ekklesia is to be a school of the Bible.  You can conduct a school of the Bible in or out of a building: you CANNOT conduct Bible class with simple simons singing their OWN "inspired" songs.  Mortal sin in fleecing the widows to build mega churches does not give you authority to violated commands, examples, inferences and minimal common reverence for God and His Word.

Jesus attended the synagogue each sabbath where Moses was PREACHED by being READ. They understood that SABBATH meanst REST and now worship SERVICE. the Miqra (left) defines the church in the wilderness EXCLUSIVELY. That never changed even as Paul defined ekklesia/synagogue in Romans and the not "musical" passages.  

EXCLUDED: They could BLOW to signal the assembly: the trumpets were ONLY to send signals. Perhaps that is why Paul connected the unclear trumpet SIGNALS to the singing and speaking in tongues in Corinth.

However, they could not sound the ALARM or TRIUMPH OVER. This word includes the following:

5. Continuing with Paul's direct command in Romans 14 which readers understood lots of music in Rome and limiting the "synagogue" to speaking that which was written with one mind and one mouth.

Let me repeat to show that Paul excluded music AND hypocrites or any kind of performance.
When Paul demanded that we not SELF-pleasure he connected this to the reproaches prophesied of Messiah: they would musically mock Him and "expose His private parts."  Self pleasure is the Word

The Greek PAUO has the same meaning as the Hebrew SABBATH. Preachers have no decisions to make.  We noted abouve that the REST absolutely outlaws "creating spiritual anxiety through religious rituals" as the SELF pleasure outlawed for the gathers means "creation of mental excitement."

Terry Rush: When one couples that with our man-made inventions (and we deny such trying to pawn it off onto God as if He said it), the wheels of outreach eventually succumb to the stress of trying to remember exactly how all of this goes.
Very simple: just sing that which is written with one mind and one mouth: that is what you do in a ekklesia or school of the Bible.

Even simpler: let the vocational Pastor-Teachers and deacons "teach that which has been taught" and "refute those who oppose it." Send the evangelists OUT.

who get their PATTERNISM from the Kingdom period in which God abandoned the nation to worship the starry hosts ON THEIR way to captivity and death.  The Spirit OF Christ did not inspire the sacrificial system as LEGALISTIC PATTERNISM and a curse.  The Spirit OF Christ spoke through the prophets to denounce all that Israel did under the monarchy including the use of music. Most of the prophets utterly denounce musical instruments as a MARK that people refused to listen to God.

Yes, it is a Biblical and historical fact: God denounced parasites and musicians from Lucifer the "singing and harp playing prostitute" in the garden of Eden to the Mother of harlots (Rev 17) who used the "lusted after fruits" as rhetoricians, singers and musicians John called SORCERERS (Rev 18). 

Terry means WE are wrong about instrumental music!
Isn't it amazing or amusing that the Spirit OF Christ has so much to say against music in the prophets and WE just made up the "anti-instrumental position" -- so they claim -- because we are just mean and legalistic.  Jesus did not design the "school of the Bible" to which we have added preaching, singing and giving as OUTREACH.  He ordained that evangelists as suffering servants preach the gospel and not worry about "preacher count."  The Campbells removed the stress by making Church mean "a school of Christ" and worship "reading and musing the Word." That removes the stress: he said that no one has the authority to add anxiety or stress such as debt./

Jesus removed the STRESS or laded burden as "spiritual anxiety created by religious ritual." Paul outlawed it as SELF-pleasure which a HERETIC uses on others to create "mental excitement" to LIFT them up to carry them away for his own uses. The "spiritual anxiety created by religious rituals" or the SELF-pleasure caused by "mental excitement" is the MARK that heretics have planned to put you in his sheepfold to fleece, slaugter and "chraunch your bones."  Here is the STRESS of heresy.
The Greek word Heresy from Liddell and Scott: Haireô means "to take with the hand, grasp, hair. To take by force, to take a city, Il., etc.; to overpower, kill, often of passions, to take, catch, as in hunting, hairein tina kleptonta to convict of theft. To take for oneself. Another form means: take with the hand, grasp, seize as in the Komo or naked dance. Having taken up [the song]. 2. catch, take, zôon (Zoe), take in hunting, get into one's power, entrap, In a legal sense: kleptonta
Paul warned about worship IN the spirit as opposed to IN the flesh because outside there were the dogs or cynics using a form of 'praise singing' to mark themselves and seek out partners.  The wolves in Acts 20 who let the dogs get inside are also marked:

Those who steal church houses of widows to impose instruments are defined as a DEMAGOGUE who "uses the popular arts to appease masses" so that he can lift them up for himself (the meaning of heresy).

The Muses are defined as prostitute sorcerers in Revelation and Jesus cast them out using a word meaning "like dung" just as He consigned the pipers, singers and dancers to the marketplace.

9.  THE MARK OF LEGALISTIC PATTERNISM

Music is the OLDEST profession: people who were emotionally and sexually abnormal could "prophesy" as in singing, dancing, playing instruments and may having sex with another "prophet" to get a message from the gods.  All poems are manmade of "fabrications" and not to be trusted. 

The development both of religion and of the arts can be traced back in a continuous line to the hunting era. The group ritual of the primeval tribesmen were the origin not only of all religious ceremonial, but also of the drama and of poetry and music, while magic gave birth to the visual arts." The "familiar spirit" of the witch of Endor was an old, empty wineskin. By using it as a "sounding vase" she pretended that she could communicate with the dead. All musical instruments are derived from "demons or demigods" and were always used as MACHINES for, as with the Jubal family, stealing your sheep and selling them back to you.  Something like TRADING your tithes and offerings for a sick sermon.

A musical instrument is made with human hands as a MACHINE for doing hard work in frightening the enemy or convincing the "contributors" that the AWE they felt was the "spirits" inside:

Isaiah 30 says that hell was prepared for Satan and the SOUND of God repaying His enemies is wind, string and percussion instruments.  The SORCERERS (musicians Rev 18) and DOGS or catamites along with liars go there.

The Organon is a MACHINE for doing hard work or for creating shock. The word ERGON is the meaning of all instrumental machines.

Terry Rush: Wouldn't it be easier to let the Word support itself without adding our attempt at genius to help it along where it's unclear. We can trust the Word. We can't trust us. That very much includes me. I will always be in kindergarten eager to learn from Him. Such will always involves sorting the God-words from the man-ones.
If you let the Word do the speaking you will outlaw SELF-pleasure and use ONE MIND and ONE MOUTH to speak "that which is written." That will educate, comfort and glorify (praise) God who wrote all of the songs and sermons.  That will keep the unity of the body because Romans 14 EXCLUDES all of the practices of the FOOD SECTS all of which used music to feed the body in the same sectarian way.

God said SPEAK which is the opposite of potery or music.
Man says that SPEAM or ODE meaning "cantillation" REALLY means speak a human song with complex harmony whic scrambles the mind.

No one had any STRESS caused by singing human compositions for almost 400 years.
At minimal ethics, people should not blame THOSE WHO FEED them with inventing and imposing something new.

Edward Fudge: A gracEmail subscriber heard a sermon condemning instrumental music in Christian worship based on John 14:31, in which Jesus says that he does just as his Father commands. The preacher said that if we do just as God commands we cannot have instrumental music since the New Testament does not specifically command it. He called this “the law of silence.” What should we make of this?

John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

I appreciate your preacher’s desire to obey God exactly, just as Jesus did. When it comes to the subject of instrumental music, however, exact obedience leaves the door wide open.

God does not require us to use it and he does not prohibit us from using it. It seems clear to me that God approves of instruments since Paul tells believers to be Psalm-singers (Eph. 5:19)

and several of the Psalms specifically call on God’s people to praise him with instruments (Psalm 150 is a notable example).

Further, the Greek word translated “psalm” itself includes songs sung to musical accompaniment.

A psalm, like a song is defined as
A metrical poem which can be read, recited, sung or sung with accompaniment. The fact that SONG means METRICAL or capable of being song does NOT include singing or define HOW the piece is performed.

The Bible is NOT metrical and could never be sung tunefully in our sense: the harp set the pitch for a vocal tone and may have sustained it. A harp might have as few as three strings and when STRUCK in an exciting sense was like a tuned percussion instrument.  The congregation never assembled for synagogue to sing and make music: there was "no praise service in the synagogue" based on direct command and minimal common sense and decency.

Neither the Bible or any literature uses the word PSALLO to mean more than pluck or play: it has no musical content unless you further define WHAT is to be plucked. Psallo is primarily a WARFARE word to identify Apollo or Apollyon of Revelation. He plucked both the bow and lyre and was the father of homosexual performances.

The second major use of PSALLO identifies the stretched rope polluted with red paint.  If people dallied around the singers, pluckers and commerce of the marketplace and were late to attend the EKKLESIA for vocal instruction only, they would show up late and polluted and impure.

The third use is a methaphor for those who "shot forth tunes" or who "shot forth love arrors."



The Temple, which early Jewish believers (including the Apostles) frequented, used musical instruments,
and Revelation freely pictures harps in heaven.

The “law of silence” approach, which assumes that anything is wrong unless it is specifically authorized, is itself not stated in the Bible.




! suppose that means that the person who truly tries to follow that approach should reject it. Even if it is followed, that approach does not forbid instruments for all the reasons set out above.

Finally, nobody consistently follows that approach, since to do so would require the Lord’s Supper meetings to be held at night and upstairs, those details having been specifically noted by Scripture with no alternative examples given.




Most of all, the gospel and the New Testament are not about some pattern of external worship details, as Jesus makes clear in visiting with the Samaritan woman in John 4. What is important is that we worship truly from the heart, motivated by the Holy Spirit and with faith in Jesus Christ (“in spirit/Spirit” and “in truth”). The Mosaic covenant included Leviticus, a book of detailed regulations for worship. The new covenant under Jesus contains nothing like that, a contrast implied by the author of Hebrews 9:1).

THE ACAPPELLA TRADITION

Edward Fudge: A subscriber from the Churches of Christ writes: "I have been hearing much lately in tapes and lectureships about our '
tradition' of acappella music.
Do you see singing without accompaniment as a tradition, or as a biblical principle for public worship assemblies?"

In the Southern United States, the Churches of Christ historically sing without instrumental accompaniment in public worship. (Outside the South, "Churches of Christ" is sometimes synonymous with "Independent Christian Churches" who do use instruments.) Other believers have also sung acappella through the years -- including early catholics,

We have noted that "singing as a ritual" was not imposed until the year 373 from the Syriac churches. This was intended to use self-composed pharaphrase or bible stories as propoganda to make religious warfare. The Eastern Catholics never used instruments and never "sang" as in the charismatic, voodoo-influenced singing of the American frontier. The Catholic church NEVER sang congregationally with instrumental accompaniment.  The organ was added by rich outsiders and not by the church: it was sued by professional in composing and was not suitable for accompaniment. The organ signalled preludes, interludes and recessionals. The clergy singer never sang with instrumental accompaniment.

 
Edward Fudge: early protestants, and certain Presbyterians, Mennonites, Brethren and Eastern Orthodox today.

The fact is that NO ONE ever used instruments in these periods: after the Reformation the organs were removed from large cathedrals because they disturbed people going to worship and were a temptation to add to the worship.  However, no one at that time had any directly Biblical commanded "text" which were metrical. Only after the Reformation were PSALMS paraphrased and set to meter to be sung but never with instrumental accompaniment. None of the denominations which flowed into the Americal Restoration Movement used instruments.  All of the now-musical denominations went through periods of deliberate discord.

Edward Fudge: Christians who think that instrumental music displeases God ought not to use it, for they cannot do so in good faith. It would be sinful for them to violate their own consciences (Rom. 14:23).

If you look to the sects Paul outlaws from "discourse" in the ekklesia you will find three sects IDENTIFIED by what they bought in the marketplaces but ALL highly charismatic with induced madness by music a desired goal.  Paul called it madness. Without dipping his pen Paul defined the "synagogue" where everyone could assemble as a 'school of the Bible' where giving heed to the Word is Paul's only "worship word."  Paul outlawed the self pleasure or "arousal of mental excitement" which is the laded burden Jesus died to remove as "spiritual anxiety created by religious rituals."  This word specificial outlawed all of the performing arts in the Greek and Latin literature.

Edward Fudge: For many of us, however, unaccompanied singing is a tradition, not a matter of scriptural requirement.

For MOST of the history of the church, using "machines for doing hard work" was outlawed and against minimal common decency when people assemble at the invitation of Jesus christ to REST and "come learn of me."

Edward Fudge: The earliest Jewish believers in Jesus continued to worship in the Temple (Acts 2:46; 3:1), where instruments were used.

The fact is that no Jewish believer including Jesus could enter into the temple. They could go no further than the open court with Solomon's porch.  Not even a musical Levite could enter into the Holy Place as a type of the body of Christ without getting executed.

The official sacrificial system--imposed because of musical idolatry--had virtually ceased hundreds of years before Christ. The system was manned by NON-Israelites who had procured their office as high bidder.  They were so evil that Jesus refused to speak to them other than using parables to PREVENT them from hearing.  The children Jesus identified as "pipers, singers and dancers" were in fact agents  of their god "Dionysus" whatever they called him.  The Abomination of Deslolation had not been silenced and all of the singers, dancers and instrument players who invaded the "church house" were forced to become male prostitutes.  Most faithful Israelites had fled rather than being emasculated to "wear the hat of Hermes." Edward Fudge: 150:3-5). The very word translated "Psalm" originally meant a song sung with a stringed instrument. It later included an unaccompanied song, but it kept its original meaning as well. Revelation, though symbolic, pictures harps in heavenly worship (Rev. 14:2-3).

In fact, the BOOK of Psalms has only 57 psalms or Mizmors.  7 of these and those including instruments were dedicated to certain temple functionaries (many with Canaanite names) or special purposes. None of the 50 which the Jews used have any instrumental content.  The psalms were really psalms TO David: he was king and the Levitical Warrior Musicians were under the KING and commanders of the army.

Paul never commanded SING PSALMS: readers will not that the word is SPEAK to yourselves.  Now, the word SPEAK is specificiall "opposite to poetry or music" because poetic language was proof of the mythmongers.  The speaking of the LOGOS demanded "in a whisper or conversational tone." The Latin SERMO also demands "using a conversational tone." Any trick of rhetoric marked those Jesus identified as hyporrites by pointing to "speakers, singers and instrument players" doing MOUTH religion.

The word "psallo" which is GREEK just means pluck: there is no example anyone can point to where PSALLO or PSALM meant to "singing and play an instrument." In fact, even to pluck a harp you MUST name what is to be plucked.  In the NACC proof text it ALWAYS means an older male plucking a harp to seduce a young male whose hairs had been plucked.  

Edward Fudge: Through the centuries, those opposing instrumental music have argued that it is not "spiritual," or have rejected instruments because someone else used them -- whether the pagans or Jews, or Roman Catholics or "the denominations."

No one ever bothered to ARGUE except when someone intended to IMPOSE machines knowing that it would sow discord.  Because Paul commanded worship in the PLACE of the human spirit specificially because worship in the flesh invited the DOGS or male prostitutes identified by their "singing styles." I doubt that those who had NEVER used instruments needed to argue that they NEVER used them because the Catholics used them. We noted that the Catholics never did what Edward defends.  The reason is based on Bible literacy from Genesis to Revelation, all of church history, the REASON for church and the fact that normal humanoids reject OTHERS imposing something which forces them to abandon THEIR congregation and property.

The Jews lost their covenant of Grace BECAUSE of Musical Idolatry: only the Civil-Clergy state ever used instruments AFTER they had fired God and demanded a human king so they could WORSHIP like the other nations around them. Acts 7 has Stephen telling Bible readers that God "turned them over to worship the starry host" because of the Mount Sinai Idolatry. He also points to Amos.

The "civilians" were FORBIDDEN to get close to the Temple sacrificial system: they were commanded to synagogue to REST, READ and REHEARSE the Word. They were forbidden to make "vocal or instrumental rejoicing sounds" during "school of the Bible" or to call the assembly.  No Israelite civilian ever engaged in "congregational singing with instrumental accompaniment."  The synagogue always existed for those NOT abandoned to paganism.

Edward Fudge: Some early church Fathers also rejected singing in harmony. Many early protestants sang in harmony but rejected "uninspired hymns" -- singing only biblical Psalms.

Harmony in the Greek world was "sounding together" as in unison.  Harmony in the modern sense did not even begin to be discovered until after about the year 1200.  The "church fathers" would have had no reason to know about even very simple two part harmony. Because the direct command was to use "that which is written" and use ONE MIND and ONE MOUTH only those intending to violate direct commands would think of refusing to listen to Jesus through His Words.

The New Testament neither requires instrumental music in worship nor forbids it. What one makes of that silence has nothing to do with respect for biblical authority. It has everything to do with the human assumptions which one brings to the interpretation of Scripture.

We believe that this proves lack of in-depth discipleship even at the simple level of 'defining words.'
