Skillman Church of Christ: Review of False Teaching

Skillman Church of Christ led by Dwight Roberts has posted what I believe are false teachings leading to women and children ruling over them. I assure you that the script has been prepared by the NACC and the false teachers have been closely mentored about how to take a church away from its owners.  This look at the music issue seems to go out of its way to deny that using "machines for doing hard work mostly in making war and creating the shock and awe of religious rituals" is a sin.

I have posted a study of Psalm 149 to prove the Musical, Sexual and Probably homosexual message of MAKING WAR: David WAS the king and the Levites (from Egyptian Dionysus worship) were under the king and commanders of the army: they did not make worship but war and SODOMY was the punishment for the defeated enemy.  Because there is no religious music concept not connected to the SOUNDS of the defeat of the enemy; and because all religious music pointed to prostitutes and Sodomites, wittingly or half-wittingly when you hear people lie about and to God in order to "make a place for musicians in the mainstream" the message is defined in Revelation 17: The Babylon mother of harlots uses "lusted after fruits" (Revelation 18) as speakers, singers and instrument players John called SORCERERS.

Psalm 149 Sexuality and Dance

I am reviewing this because Dwight Roberts is part of a small group whose teaching have discorded most of the Church of Christ: certainly in my hill town about as remote as you can get.  There is no "autonomy" when people attempt to control others by their access to the religious media and collective meetings. Skillman knows that by trying to appease the wrath of some females they will give aid and comfort to all of those lusting to find a venue and market for their "ministry."

I planned this as a personal letter until I saw how deeply dyed in false teaching from the "white paper" of the agents of the NACC this paper is.

We should note that Michael Armour was the preacher from 1986 until 2001: that was the period when a purpose driven group vowed to rid itself of the old conservatives and restructure the church. This hit Jubilee with the plan to "go around the older people" and push for:
  1. A new style of leadership where the elders are just shepherds of primarily the preacher.
  2. The preacher is chosen by the sovereign grace of God because of charisma and superior training. That involved Don Finto restoring himself as an Apostle over the other elders. This has degenerated to the Missional church (not a real word) restoring the 5-fold ministry of Apostles and Prophets (not to be questioned).
  3. A new style of worship: fittingly "a new style of singing" is defined in John's Greek world as one of the marks of the Beast. That includes gender-compromised speakers, singers and instrument players John called sorcerers (Rev 17-18)
  4. And a broader role for women. See Rick Atchley's false views on women's roles
  5. John would say that this is the SIGN that Christ has been there and gone and taken the candlestick with him.
All of these have been promoted by people with an agenda having accepted the postmodern view. Therfore, under the old bylaws pledged to be a Church of Christ you would call that lying. I notice that the bylaws have been changed to eleminate any connection to the teachings of The Church of Christ. This is also part of the procedure recommended by the Purpose Driven Cult. It took some heavy lifting by an attorney to convince my old church in Seattle that if they did not remove the clause outlawing instruments they could be charged with "sectarianism" and be personally liable.

All of these areas have been promoted by what I believe to be deliberate lying and anti-Scriptural and deliberately discording. It takes a lot of deliberate discording without getting fired to brain wash away the old views so the new ones can be planted.

Mike Armour totally false views of instrumental music.

Furthermore, Mike and the once-Christian colleges are pushing someting like near eastern witchery: that is why godly men can be run over by women and children ruling over them.  This, too, fits prophecy where the Mother of Harlots (Revelation 17) uses false preachers, singers and instrument players John called sorcerers.  (Rev 18).

Revelation 17-18 Mother of Harlots or Worship Musicians

Reading the "preacher's" thesis,  I see the "patternism" of what seems to be the intentional sanitizing of instrument music which I have noted in other pastor-written apologies signalled a slow but intentional effort to "boil the frogs" and add instruments.  The faithful promise in one of your area churches was dismissed with "that was then but this is now."

By removing the Church of Christ from the Bylaws you have been taken to court to silence the founders and made way to remove CHRIST from the public confession.

The radically false teaching about the role of women--not knowing the why of Paul's attempt to keep the women from waving uinholy ARMS while the elders lifted up Palms to prevent the Mad Women of Corinth from introducing the singing, clapping, instruments and body gyrations which is defined as wrath and that word speaks of ORGY: the worship of the mother of harlots. in Corinth even in secular literature they were called mad women.

Furthermore, the Bible points to the pagan practices which connect the rise of musical worship to Apollo who is the Abaddon or Apollyon of Revelation. John's use of the term "locusts" identifies the Muses as the "worship team" of Apollo and used by John in Revelation 18 and he calls them sorcerers who HAD deceived the whole world. That is the same meaning of the "serpent" in the garden of Eden which has widespread documentation of that area proving that he/she/it was a musical enchanter also called "the tallest tree of Eden."

Those who have imposed instruments and driven away up to 1/2 of the "owners" deliberately ignore the context of those proof texts they say has the Spirit telling them that "God commands instrumental praise and we must NOT be disobedient." If that authority comes out of a Plague Stopping animal slaughter and only twisting the commands ONLY for the burning of the goats for beyond-redemption Israel" then all of those who have added instruments have deliberately restored that national worship which Jesus died to remove as a SHADOW or SKIA meaning "a total error."

I will show you where the BEAST carries the idea of A NEW STYLE OF SINGING. According to Plato you should not understand that the issue as a "new style of music" but that the change signals "a change of the government."

I will spend some time on the NAME of the church because I think that all of the terms are connected with Christ: for instance "The church of God which He purchased with His own blood" clearly means The Church of Christ.  The pressure to remove it in fact removes CHRIST from the public confession and the push usually comes from someone who has had a bad experience with a church. But, then, the Baptists are also changing their name because of some bad press.  Nevertheless, the mark of a church is that it suffers reproach and can ever be popular and faithful.

Again, I imagine that I hear you saying that we MIGHT at some time remove Christ from our public confession and that would be SCRIPTURAL.

Most of the error seems to have come out of ACU whose professors claimed to intentionally "act as prophets to prepare advanced degrees to act as channellers to manage the change of the conservative churches."

(Online source). Essential "boiling the frog" lesson

If you do an electronic search of the Bible for the word “church” you will get about 112 “hits” or so, depending on which translation you use to do your search. The New International Version yielded 112 instances of the use of the word church. In every case where the word appears, the result is descriptive of the context that was being used in the text. That is to say that something was being described in the text and the word was used to particularly describe who the subject of the description was. For example, “King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them” in Acts 12:1 or “but the church was earnestly praying to God for him” Acts 12:5 or “you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God…” I Tim. 3:15 to cite only a few.

That isn't good enough: you have to look at the context and have a minimal interest in the message where Christ is always attached to any Biblical church.

Christ is alwas the Lord of all of the churches: he bought it with His own blood. He is the HEAD of the Church and the church wears HIS name.   I might elect to use the Assembly of Jesus Christ but during all periods The Church of Christ has been the name claimed by all groups.  Ekklesia defines an assembly for verbal instructions only and the "psallo" rope marked those who dallied around the marketplace and were forced to go to the ekklesia where they were fined and not allowed to participate.  Only in a perverse sense did any musical or theatrical action take place.

I believe the change signals a weakness and do not believe that people respect you even though they might attend if the theatrics are better than the other venue down the street: when another venue opens up they will go like butterflies.

All "Christians" have honored Christ with their confession in every age: why a deliberate effort to remove it?

Skillman: In each of these passages and the others totaling 112 or so, the most common reference to the name of the group being discussed was the term “the church.” This term is used well over 90% of the time, with little else to describe it other than the occasional “the church of the Thessalonians” or “the church of the Laodiceans” or “the church in Ephesus.” The second most common term used is the church of God and that descriptor got seven (7) hits, as in “Be shepherds of the church of God, which He bought with His own blood” Acts 20:28 or “To the church of God in Corinth” I Cor. 1:2 or “…how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.” Gal. 1:13. Actually, “the Way” probably is used more than “the church of God” but a search engine can’t count the Way as a descriptor of Christians vs. being used in other instances (like they were on the way to…) accurately!

The most common name for husbands is "the husband......"

Skillman: There is one descriptor that only gets one hit, and that’s the one we love to hear the most. Of course it is found in Romans 16:16 and it is the Church of Christ. To be precise, the scripture actually reads “Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ send greetings” NIV (or salute you if you prefer from the KJV). We have actually made quite a stir of this fact in a number of discussions, but the truth is that if we were to go with the most common descriptor of the group who followed Jesus, and considered themselve Page 4 of 10 “Christians” we would call this assembly “the church” or possibly “the church at Skillman.”

However, in all of the mentions of "the ekklesia" which means "for verbal instruction only and excluding any theatrics or professional roles" it is clearly the Body of Christ.

God has had the opportunity to be very specific. He has been so with His chosen people to a very significant degree. In the early days of bringing His chosen people to the point where they could accept His plan of salvation, He was specific to the nth degree. Open your Bibles to the Book of Leviticus and you will see instance after instance about how sacrifices were to be performed, how holy days were to be observed, how utensils were to be cleaned, how priests were to be dressed, etc.

At the same time He also defined the Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness for instructions only. Work even outlawed "sending out a minister of God." A Sabbath Days journey was defined as about 700 feet and people were forbidden to go outside of their own precincts. That would quarantine them from the national Temple and for pagan "worship services" of the pagans.

When God sends you strong delusions you will miss the dozens of rebuttals:

Matt. 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Matt. 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him,
        Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona:
for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee,
but my Father which is in heaven.

Who is speaking to those who deny Christ His ownership of HIS Body? Who said that you can dismiss Christ with just "the church"? Church is derived from Circe or Kirke who was the probably literal holy harlot and buried on an Island John could see from Patmos. She used drugs (music induces drugs) and music to seduce sailors.
Matt. 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter,
        and upon this rock I will build my church;
and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Jesus was speaking from the gates of the Temple of Pan: the beast, the pan piper, the bisexual enemy of Christ. The GOAT singer.

The ONLY effective confession is that Jesus is the CHRIST.  Christ said I will build MY Church: The Church of Christ!  If you are going to use the music of Pan the beast, why not call it the Church at Mount Hermon.

Why would you want to DENY that great confession before the watching world?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

The free gift is A regenerated personal spirit.

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to THE CHURCH daily such as should be saved.

THE KINGDOM for us is THE CHURCH. CHRIST is GOD WITH US. Therefore, the KINGDOM OF GOD is THE CHURCH OF CHRIST. To plan to remove the CONFESSION from the sign is to permit those things no church of Christ would tolerate.

Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. Acts 20:26
For I have not shunned to declare unto you
all the counsel of God. Acts 20:27
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the
Holy Ghost hath made you overseers,

to feed THE CHURCH of GOD,
he hath purchased with his own blood. Acts 20:28

Paul warned the ELDERS to FEED the Church: it has no other purpose for the "assembly." Paul goes on to warn that ONE OF YOURSELVES will let the gates down and let the wolves. Wolves like dogs Paul warned about identify the Cynics or male prostitutes which are specificially MARKED by their old style praise singing.

Unto the

............ CHURCH OF GOD which is at Corinth,
............ to them that are sanctified [baptized into] in Christ Jesus,
............ called to be saints, with ALL that in EVERY place
............ call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 1 Cor 1:2

If Christ purchased the Church then the Church of God is the Church of Christ.

1Cor. 11:22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in?

or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not?
What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.
1Cor. 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup,
ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

GOD as CHRIST shed His blood. Therefore, The Church of God is The Church of Christ--singular. Removing the NAME denies that Christ is Father, Son and Spirit whose words are spirit and life.

Eph. 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God

Unto the CHURCH OF GOD which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 1 Cor 1:2

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into THE KINGDOM of his dear Son: Col.1:13

His dear SON is Christ: the Kingdom of His Dear Son is The Kingdom of Christ-or the Church of Christ

That means The Church of Christ: one church, one kingdom.

And he is the head of the body, THE CHURCH who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. Col.1:18

The Spirit of God is the Mind of Christ: His Mind or Spirit is what leads in songs and sermons.  The church of the firsborn is the Church of Christ.

Whatever you do in name or deed to all in the NAME of the Lord: WHY is there such deception and panic to remove Christ to put women and boy-singers at the CENTER.

Skillman: By the time God brought His Son into the world, He had spent quite a bit of time educating His chosen people. In Galatians, we learn that the old law was a schoolmaster, or a way of teaching these people how to live, how to worship, how to revere God.

God always had a Son says all classical trinitarians: When the ONE GOD breath out breath (Spirit) and articulated WORDS these words are called God's Son.

BUNK: The only acceptable worship under the Law of Moses was at the Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness ordained by Christ according to Stephen.  It was a school of the Bible held on the day when the CURSED MONARCHY would be making animal sacrifices "like the nations" because that is what God had abandoned them to.

The new "Prophet" will not "teach to the tune of a hickory stick.". The teaching which would come to an end is the Hebrew:

Lamad (h3925) law-mad'; a prim. root; prop. to goad, i. e. (by impl.) to teach (the rod being an Oriental incentive):- [un-] accustomed, * diligently, expert, instruct, learn, skilful, teach (-er, - ing).

Erasmus defines the legalist "teacher" as the clergy, monks, princes and the pope.

Col. 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you
        in meat,
        or in drink,
or in respect of an holyday,
        or of the new moon,
        or of the sabbath days:
Col. 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

G4639 skia skee'-ah Apparently a primary word; “shade” or a shadow (literally or figuratively [darkness of error or an adumbration]):--shadow.

2. reflection, image (in a bowl of oil), Sch.Il.17.755.
3. shade of one dead, phantom, Od.10.495,  A.Th.992,
of worthless things, that phantom at Delphi, of the Amphictyonic council, D.5.25; hai tou dikaiou s. mere shadows of .
4. evil spirit, Hippiatr.130, PMasp.188.5
also, of one worn to a shadow, A.Eu.302;

Skillman: By the time He brought Christ into the world as our savior, do you think He could not have been just as specific as He was then? Certainly, He could have if He had chosen to do so. Instead, there is much that was not said about these things, and our conclusion could very well be that God simply wanted us to choose how we would implement some of these practices.

Christ in spirit commanded the Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness to QUARANTINE them from the temple and other pagan religions: both sabbath and tithe are derived from Babylon

That was inclusive to REST, read and discuss the Word.
That was EXCLUSIVE of vocal or instrumental rejoicing.
Not even the simple violated that until 1815 in a liberal German synagogue: being a decent sort, the judge kicked the false preacher out and made him build his own synagogue.

It was because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai that God "turned them over to worship the starry host" known by any Bible reader including Acts 7 where Stephen confirmed that the king, kingdom, temple and sacrificial system was NOT God's patternism for spiritual worship.

The Prophets such as Nehemiah confirm that this was imposed because of their sin and that the whole national or Egyptian/Babylonian system consisted of robbers and parasites: the name of the sacrificial musicians in the Greek world ws PARASITE.

Centuries before the time of Christ the sacrificial system was effectively dead and operated by HIRELINGS probably Edomites so vile that Jesus would not even teach them the gospel.  Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees hypocrites by pointing to Isaiah and Ezekiel which was inspired by Christ in Spirit form (1 Pet 1:11)

Ezek 33:29 Then shall they know that I am the LORD
when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.
Ezek. 33:30 Also, thou son of man,
the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses,
and speak one to another, every one to his brother,
saying, Come, I pray you, and hear
what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.
Ezek. 33:31 And they come unto thee
        as the people cometh,
        and they sit before thee
         as my people,
        and they hear thy words,
but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love,
but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

Here is Christ definition of NOTHING, JUST NOTHING AT ALL.

Ezek. 33:32 And, lo, thou art unto them
        as a very
         lovely song of
        one that hath a
         pleasant voice,
and can play well on an
        for they hear thy words,
                but they do them not.
Ezek. 33:33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,)
then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
Christ promised to build HIS ekklesia or synagogue which we call Church of Christ.  Therefore, Jesus came to cast down the robbers and parasites Jesus called Scribes and Pharisees as hypocrites which he NAMED in Ezekiel as slick speakers for hire, great singers and instrument players.

THESE were the marks left by Jesus so we KNOW when the robbers and parasites have taken over.

Skillman: In the case of the naming of His followers, your elders don’t think that God cares what we call ourselves
except that the name be descriptive of the group that meets here,
and that it is clear that we are His people.

Whoa! WE don't get the authority to THINK about that! Who is it Who gets to name the CHURCH after HIMSELF: based on history "your elders don't think" is the preacher speaking for a divided eldership and USURPING THEIR AUTHORITY. Their duty is to teach that which has been written and Paul's outlawing "doubtful disputations in Romans 15" does not give people the DEITY to THINK about trumping Jesus Christ.

Skillman: For those of you who are now nervous that we are about to change the signage out front, let me put your minds at ease. Your eldership does believe that there are many things that define us, that set us apart as a people who love the word, who are devoted to prayer, and to the practices that we believe are called for in the New Testament.

The name “Church of Christ,” while not the most frequent that appears in the Bible certainly has set us apart as a group of people. We are part of the restoration movement of Alexander Campbell & Barton W. Stone, and we hold true many of the beliefs that they espoused. Campbell was a strong believer in the inspiration of the word, and that if we dwelt on its messages we would be true to God’s intention for our lives. If we studied, and prayed that the Spirit guide us, that we would be led to a fuller and more meaningful life in His service. Your elders believe that we can do exactly that under the banner “Church of Christ” and see no advantage in considering a change of that name.

That is what happens if you look up a word search on a computer: firstly, the word CHURCH does not appear in the Greek so if you are serious you will look up words like "come together and assemble and gathering" and you will find dozens: if you read whole contexts yu can find numerous prooofs that Paul knew that THEY knew that he was speaking of The Church of Christ.

Campbell believed that the Spirit guided you THROUGH the Word as did almost everyone before ACU. So did Calvin. But, Campbell is almost always twisted on the guidance of the Holy Spirit which was never a separated "people."

Now, for heaven's sake "your elders" meaning the preacher does not THINK that the name of CHRIST is really a DRAG!

Skillman: Being a “Church of Christ” does identify us with a group who has a common approach to governance, common practices, and common beliefs. We believe that the primary requirement for the name on the sign outside is to identify us as followers of Christ, and to give glory to His name. Our focus should not be on the name on the sign, but on what God would have us do behind that sign; how we interact with this community; how we serve our fellow man, and each other; how we spread the “Good News” of Jesus Christ to the world we live in.

The I AM was present with Moses:

Acts 7:39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: Ac.7:38

Rev. 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Rev. 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

That was CHRIST who ordained the church and outlawed "vocal and instrumental rejoicing." If Christ the Rock established the church in the wilderness then the ekklesia in Stephen's words was the Church of Christ. The Church of Christ in the wilderness is NARROWLY restricted to its functions.

The BODY to which the HEAD is attached is The Church of Christ.

Unto the CHURCH OF GOD which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 1 Cor 1:2

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, ( by grace ye are saved;) Ep.2:5
And hath
raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: Ep 2:6

Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 1 Cor 1:2

I thank my God alway on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; 1 Cor 1:4

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Ro.6:6

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.Ga.2:20

Christ is the head of the body the church Eph. 1:22,23
Christ is the Saviour of the church Eph. 5:23
Christ is the builder of the church  Matt. 16:18
Christ purchased the church Acts 20:28
The church is the Bride of Christ  Eph. 5:31-33

Skillman: To summarize our position on the signage out front:

! The most common descriptor of the early church was the term “the church” [FALSE]

! “Church of Christ” appears only once.  [FALSE: unless you are strongly deluded]

! The Skillman leadership sees no advantage to change our name.

But, we have twisted Scripture to SET UP UP.

Now, on to the subject of music, the use of instruments in facilitating that music, and whether these are issues that will condemn anyone who uses them.

There is NO musical content to any of the "sing" words.  Even though not tuneful, that elevatited whiney pitch of the Jews Falsetto and the Catholic a cappella (castrates) was always a SURE sign of an effeminate male.

That is a false and deceptive premise: the issue is whether "machines for doing hard work mostly in making war" are commanded or rational for the "school of the Bible."  In fact for any Bible student instruments are always the mark of people telling God in Christ to shut His face.

The other issue is whether any one has deceptively imposed instruments without knowing that they were deliberately sowing massive discord and offending those for who Jes died.

The issue is whether any one in history prior to the Disciples (feeding Skillman) ever tried to proove that instruments were commanded.  All of the church fathers and founders of denominations understood that instruments were outlawed specificially, and the fact that MAKING NOISE is not appropriate when we meet so that the elders can teach that which has been taught.

The issue is whether Skillman wants to use what they in error call THE LAW OF SILENCE to impose legalistic machines.

Because the very words used prohibit any anxiety-creating thing pointing out music, the issue is where you can violate those direct commands without sinning? The laded burden Jesus died to remove along with the burden laders was an anxiety creating song as most are. The REST is so that we can learn of Jesus outside the camp and the Greek PAUO calls for the silencing of music and the theatrics including the HYPOCRITE or rhetorician.  Paul's SELF-pleasure specificially silences all of the musical rituals because they creat mental excitement and make "speaking that which is written with one mind and one mouth impossible."

Skillman: Churches of Christ have always taken the Bible’s authority seriously. We have described it as central and as our final authority in religious matters. At Skillman we have emphasized Bible study in our Sunday and Wednesday classes and our preachers have all favored sermon styles that emphasized the exposition of Scripture. An important chapter in Skillman’s history was the Bible Credit Course taught in the Dallas Public Schools. This was a course that emphasized basic Bible knowledge. Skillman members were at the center of that movement. Dwight was in Austin two weeks ago and a former member of Skillman who now lives in Dodge City, Kansas talked to him extensively about how Skillman’s participation in Bible Credit deeply influenced his young faith. A deep respect for the Bible has been at the heart of Skillman’s history from its beginning. In this we are true to the history of other congregation’s in Churches of Christ. For decades, Churches of Christ have been known for their commitment to the Bible.

But, Jesus said that the truth had been hidden in parables from the foundation of the world: this was to delude those mostly clergy who had learned how to fleece widows by writing their own text and making long prayers (speeches) for show and money. Isaiah 48 proves that this was to blind just those theologians who almost never study the Bible in context with a handle on ancient original documents.

Because Dwight Roberts claims that we got the ANTI-musical view from Zwingli it is important to note that Richard Hughes and others define the church of Christ as historyless: that meant that we did not take advantage of the decisions of councils!  Be it known that no council ever approved of instrumenta music and one of the earliest tried to stop using self-composed and defacto erroneous songs insteac of the directly commanded Biblical text.  Since it never occured to anyone to add SINGING of the Bible which is not metrical, they sang their OWN songs which violates many direct commands: that began in the year 373 and split the churche into east and west which continues. Zwingli continued the UNIVERSAL understanding of the Bible and did not want to ADD singing into the church because the BIBLE cannot be sung and therefore Zwingli opposed REWRITING the Psalms just so they could be happy-clappy.

Skillman: Churches of Christ have another history too. We have our roots in the branch of the Protestant Reformation influenced by the Swiss Reformer, Ulrich Zwingli who rejected the use of instrumental music in Christian worship

Everyone rejected instruments in the church and when the Catholic churches became property of the state they gradually removed the organs and idols. Zwintli objected to SINGING because you cannot SING without rewriting the Bible. Furthermore, the church did not  SING as aritual for 373 years and then only by sowing discord. The Catholic church did not do congregational singing because it had not basis in the synagogue or church. Only a clergy person chanted the lesson as the Jews cantillated.  It was the Reformation which INTRODUCED singing in a tuneful sense by it was NOT possible without rewriting the Bible.

Skillman: Zwingli believed that the New Testament descriptions of the early church provided a model for all future churches. He rejected the use of instrumental music because there is no evidence that the early church used them.

On the contrary, Zwingli knew very well that the historic church REJECTED instruments even in those settings not called "going to church."  Zwingli or any competent Bible reader would see instruments as the MARK of a people trying to silence the Word of God. They singing and instruments in the slaughter pit was ONE CRASING NOISE: it was called exorcism meaning as Jesus confirmed "to silence the voice of the victim." The spiritual people did not do that ever never.

That is because the very act of singing induces a sexual feeling: we now know about endorphins. He knew that all of the church fathers denounced them. He knew that the Catholic church never did 'congregational singing with instrumental accompaniment" but the PRESENCE of the organs in the great cathedrals contributed to spiritual and moral breakdown because they were used for professional performances thus making the church seem like a theater.

You will never find a historic scholar who does not define the apostolic church as that defined in the Bible and Calvin called his a restoration movement. If you remove all of the things ADDED by councils of preachers and elders you would automatically have a New Testament Church which they all agree is the SPIRITUAL assembly whereas the Old Testament was a shadow meaning ghoast because "they made a covenant with death."  Check that the CENI is defined by God throughout the Bible and all historic scholars.

I don't believe that the Campbells built upon Zwingli as a foundation! That would disparage their grand scholarship.

Skillman: His views of the Lord’s Supper as a memorial rather than a sacrament influenced Churches of Christ and the Baptists. Consequently, the churches that Zwingli influenced in Zurich in the early sixteenth century removed organs from their sanctuaries. His views on this matter also influenced Anabaptists (modern Mennonites and the Church of the Brethren). In addition to Zwingli, other significant religious figures such as John Wesley and Martin Luther rejected the use of instrumental music.

The Calvinists did not HAVE church buildings: after the Reformation the building belonged to the state. The organs were used for musical performance and all kinds of secular performances. Then, the church tried to hold their assemblies in the midst of purely secular theatrics: not even the Catholics ever did "congregational singing with organ accompaniment." As the churhes gained more control they finally convinced the authorities to remove them because they were a source of trouble for everyone. This would be to keep the lusted for singings and musicians OUT of the building totally.

Most of the church fathers I have read deny that the Lord's Supper is a sacrament having supernatural power including Luther and Calvin.  Luther was a true enemy of Zwingli and Luther's rejection of the organ which he called, and I translate, "A MARK of Baal" was based on a knowledge of the Bible. Both Luther and Calvin discuss the synagogue or church in the wilderness as outlawing any vocal or instrumental rejoicing.  Their conclusion like that of anyone reading the text is that instruments were outlawed because they were the SIGNS of people who didn't care about truth.  Poets and song writers were permitted to write ONLY MYTHS and never true history. That is because when you set poets to music you KNOW that someone is intending to deceive you: John and all of the literature calls it enchantment or sorcery.

Luther wrote on Romans 15 Click to dispel all of the mythis which reject but even promote the future use of instruments.

Click for more collected repudiations of instrumental music by Martin Luther.

See John Calvins comments.

Justin Martyr a.d. 110-165 "Simply singing is not agreeable to children (Jews), but singing with lifeless instruments and with dancing and clapping is. On this account the use of this kind of instruments and of others agreeable to children is removed from the songs of the churches,  and there is left remaining simply singing." (Justin Martyr, 139 AD)

But, none of the Bible is metrical in a tuneful sense: the Jews added notations which helped in rhymic prose. Cantillation agrees with the SPEAK used by Paul which is defined and used in the literature as the opposite of poetry or music.  There is no musical content in the word PSALLO and the Disciples tried to inject the instrument into it for the first time in history in 1878 after they had already sowed massive discord.

Rom. 15:1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak,
        and not to please ourselves.

The INFIRM would include the old and probably half of any congregation where music creates the mental excitement which even now keeps Prozac in business.  Plato and others were literate and considerate and warned not to intrude music when you are wanting to impart truth. They knew that the nature of people responded with anxiety when the music is played whereas others would not be troubled. But, why would you introduce music when you should know that you are hurting a large part of the group?

The phrase
loquitur ad Aedificationem Ecclesiae defines THE meaning of the ekklesia or church and the same METHOD excludes music of any kind.  Singing would be the ODE which defines "Hebrew cantillation" which means SPEAK as in the word SPEAK.
Bible students will have no problem understanding Paul to say DON'T do anything to "create meantal excitement" which destroys the weak and infirm and destroys the EDUCATIONAL purpose:

Rom. 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning
that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

We do not get to do doubtful disputations which is what comes out of a misguided committee meeting!

Rom. 15:5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another
        according to Christ Jesus:
Rom. 15:6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Rom. 15:7 Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

History records the first time that SPEAK was neglected and singing as an ACT of worship in the year 373. Even then, "melody as tunefulness belongs to the 19th century." The singing would be more metrical than speak which is without meter.

The Catholic church which was called The Church of Christ in all ages introduced singing by pagan, unbaptized priests from paganism when for the first time they were paid.  The Catholic Encyclopedia notes that music and all of the trappings were added because they were common to all pagan cults.

Even then, the Catholic church did not use the organ in the Pope's presence in the Sistine where a cappell mening the French castrated choir singing "organum" was introduced because the Falsetto of the Jews and Catholics was not as grand.

They never engaged in congregational singing with the organ as the Jews did not in the "church in the wilderness." The organ was added by rich patrons and not by the priests: it was played by professionals and composers for preludes, intermissions and recessionals but never during the Mass.

None of the Reformation churches sang "tunefully." Because they obeyed the direct commands to speak that which is written meaning the inspired text, and because the Bible could not be sung if your life depended on it, Calvin began to allow some RECOMPOSING of Psalms (radically) to set them to meter.  Zwingl, understanding the outlawing of "vocal or instrumental rejoicing" during the Qahal or church in the wilderness, and that none is commanded in the Bible, objected to that form of singing introduced after 373. Zwingli was correct because there are no "musical" concepts for the spiritual thread of humanity in the Old or New Testament.

Skillman: The early standard bearers of our fellowship in the early eighteenth century came to the same conclusions. However in the late nineteenth century following the Civil War, churches in the north prospered, began to build large ornate buildings and also installed organs. This caused a great deal of tension with congregations in the south whose members following the war struggled to eat. The tension over this issue among others led to a division in our movement with churches, primarily in the north that used instruments, while churches in the south remained acapella.

You could find musical instruments in a large number of even poor families: if you needed a flute you took the leg bone of a deer which I have done.  Like David you could take 4 sticks to make a frame and stretch sheep gut to make a "harp." Many men made banjos and dulcimers.  Small reed organs were widespread.  They could use a washboard and a bucket to makek a base guitar.

That is the common fodder that the "southern" churches resented instruments because they could not afford one. They got a free one at Midway Kentucky and the godly elder and a slave tossed it out

They were ALL born with that absolute Biblical command and universal historical agreement. No one prior to the Disciples in 1878 every tried to find any authority for instruments primarily by the PSALLO word and later by O.E.Payne and others collecting all of the passages from "looking up" in a lexicon and then declaring that God commanded instruments. Unfortunately, having tracked down all of Tom Burgess proof texts on the word psallo are in the context of an older male grooming a younger man for sodomy.

I believe that the conclusion came with all of the denominations which gladly flowed into the Restoration churches. There had never been any doubt and I do not think you can find any in recorded history.

It simple would not have occured to the Baptists, Presbyterians or Methodists to use what the Greek defines as "a machine for doing hard work mostly in making war or for creating the shock and awe of pagan religious ceremonial." The REST and Laded burden Jesus used as used in the Greek literature would outlaw songs (as the meaning of a burden) and instruments. The SELF-pleasure Paul outlawed in Romans 15 specificially points to all of the performing arts and crafts.  In fact, Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees hypocrites by pointing to Isaiah and Ezekiel where the Spirit of Christ named slick speakers, singers and instrument players.

The Disciples have Anglican roots in the O'Kelly movement. They are more accepting of "instruments" because of the Church of the England connection.  However, the Disciples of Christ and what became the Church of Christ were never UNITED any more than Campbell preached for Baptist churches and converted many. The Disciples and the Christian church which began to sect out of the Disciples a full decade after the 1906 census make the CLAIM that the Church of Christ defected. This is a guilt clause which people not familiar with restoration history might accept.

Burnett proves that there was never any kind of UNION between the groups.

I think that it is true that the divisions which occurred did so in the northern states.  The Standard sent a missionary into Tennessee declaring that "we will take tennessee for the society and organ party within 5 years." Of course, the Church of Christ was not confused about the instrument and few fell for it.  When the Christian church sected out of the Disciples beginning in 1927 that had already launched an effort to "infiltrate" churches of Christ.  Again in about1932.

The Baptists churches were also divided over instruments and this sorting out was going on in 1906 when the Church of Christ denied that they BELONGED to the Disciples denomination.

Skillman: Since this painful division, the subject of instruments has been an almost constant topic of discussion. Doug Foster, a Church of Christ historian at Abilene Christian University, wrote in his 1994 book Will The Circle Be Unbroken that a survey of the indexes to major journals published by members of Churches of Christ shows entries under this topic in almost every year since 1849. In the last decade it has generated hundreds of articles and speeches in journals and lecture series sponsored by our churches and universities. The point of this short history lesson is to say that this issue has been a significant marker among us and it is our acapella tradition and history that has been one of the most if not the most defining characteristic in Churches of Christ.

If your wife brings in another husband you are invited to leave. Most Churches of Christ were never pained by such crassness: that was mostly in the Christian Churches or the Disciples

Read J. F.Burnett who denies that the Stone people ever joined the Campbell movement.

The only UNION was the agreement to work together on some missions BEFORE it had occured to any of the Disciples to tolerate instrument. There is a Doug Foster in ever generation who claims scholarship but has none. He and others have been major discorders. However, until the present spawn of preachers no one INSIDE of the Church has mounted a periodic attack against instruments by lying about all of the Bible and recorced history.

UNITY always means surrender to what the faithful have rejected for 2,000 years and therefore th UNITY theme has always bee a divisive lie which only a few duped preachers have fallen int.

The Christian Church shortly before they began to sect out of the Disciples have made a calculated effort to force the Church of Christ to accept instruments. You will never find any "movement" set up by the Church of Christ to deceptively remove the organ from instrumental churches.  The Church of Christ has continued to teach the TRUTH because there has been a steady stream of UNITY MEETINGS in which the NACC comes fully loaded to lie about all of the music verses and especially the word psallo.

There was no pain for the Church of Christ other than those churches which were taken over so that the owners had to leave. J.W.McGarvey could not even preach against the organ in his own church.  There was no more connection between the early Stone movement and the Church of Christ than with the Baptists churches which also rejected instruments.

The Disciples and what became The Church of Christ were never a UNIT and therefore could not have divided. A meeting was held in 1932 pledging to WORK TOGETHER, but, this as John Smith made clear, was based on those standards which the Church of Christ never abandoned.  The "unity" consisted ONLY of those churches represented and the Church of Christ in general never recognized themselves as even closely related to the Disciples or Christian Church which derived mostly from the Methodist, Anglican, Church of Engand and therefore not then considered a Protestant group.

The first attempt as a missionary society by the Baptist influence in 1849 made it clear to most that even working together on projects was impossible.  Barton W. Stone held not a single view consisten with the Church of Christ: he almosrt worshipped the concept of "union."  Only when forced by the "audience" did Stone agree to preach baptism.

When the first instrument was added over the objection of the elders, Church of Christ writers began a strong objection as early as 1860. They had been preceded by the Presbyterians doing most of the great writing when the Scotch State church became the same thing as the Church state of England.

Congregational singing is not Acapella which is a perversion of a cappella defining the Pope's castrated choir singing a form of harmony or organum in the Sistine chapel.  Acappella would define the "Musical Worship Teams" which violates several commands regarding content and teaching style.

The falsetto's were not as powerful as the castrates and therefore the pope imported them. Even then it was unlawful to use instruments in the presence of the Pope who held the only official Mass much like the State sacrifices in Jerusalem called Sodom and the mother of harlots.

The term traditional implies that NOT using machines was invented by us and is something like a deadly disease which we caught from our bad old ancestors.  The voice only is the SCRIPTURAL command, example, inference and historic practice. The instrument is a tradition common to all pagan and perverted rituals. [Page 6 of 10]  The Catholic Encyclopedia on Candles notes:

We need not shrink from admitting that candles, like incense and lustral water, were commonly employed in pagan worship and in the rites paid to the dead.

But the Church from a very early period took them into her service, just as she adopted many other things indifferent in themselves, which seemed proper to enhance the splendour of religious ceremonial. We must not forget that most of these adjuncts to worship, like music, lights, perfumes, ablutions, floral decorations, canopies, fans, screens, bells, vestments, etc.

were not identified with any idolatrous cult in particular;
they were common to almost all cults.

Skillman: In recent years this issue has been reconsidered by some congregations in our fellowship. Some of our congregations in Texas, particularly in the DFW area have begun services with instrumental music. Because this has been such a significant part of our identity we felt it important that we share with you our viewpoints on this topic. We sing acapella because our tradition and historical references indicated that the early church sang acapella.

It is tragic beyond words that people can capture pulpits without knowing the instruments is a very late heresy.  The literate understanding of Scripture by our truly educated older preachers was NOT a vile disease they caught from their godly parents.

I will look at the A CAPPELLA concept under a review of Women Presiding Over at Skillman

Only those who were agents of the NACC and courted by them have INTENTIONALLY spend huge amounts of money to speak lies about every musical passage: there is no Greek scholar left in any of the once-Bible colleges who goes beyond the lexicons but never read the original resources: the selected references they use are always twisted.  That movement probably was spawned by Leroy Garrett who also twists Bible and the Restoration history.

Skillman: This may be because early Christian worship was influenced by worship in the Jewish synagogue, which was acapella. We do not know of any specific mention of instruments being used in Christian worship until the fourth century. The main reason that we sing acapella is that this is our history and tradition; this is how we have always done music.

This is part of the NACC story but it is not true.

The synagogue could not have been acapella or a cappella (the GOAT singers) because it would not exist for about 16 centuries.  There was no "singing" of Scripture in the synagogues because it is not metrical. The ode was cantillation or rhymic prose which is SPEAK and not make music. Psalms were PREACHED by being READ in the synagogue as part of the teaching and admonishing command: no one did ceremonial legalism with machines. There is no good evidence that an organ was in a church until after 1200. That whas when making "harmony" became possible. Because of the rhythmic prose used by the precenter no organ existed or was ever used to ACCOMPANY the chanting of a Psalm or Hymn.

This has been reconsidered because the Christian Church or the NACC which did not completely sect out of the Disciples until 1971. At that time they began a heavy handed attack under 'unity' to separate the Church of Christ into two parties.
  1. Any a cappela PREFERENCE who did not continue to teach agaist this divisive practice were to be tolerated.
  2. They coined a new term: ANTI-instrumental which meant that they were beyond the pale and were fair game to be "infiltrated and diverted" into the use of instruments. That has been an executed threat against those who will not stop teaching what the Bible and most of recorded history confirmed to an good Bible student at the time.
  3. They have sliced off a few men and with favor and flattery gotten them to lead the charge: this restructuring movement intended to move all non-instrumental churches into the musical wing.
  4. As far as I can determine they took captive only those who set out with a well financed plan. The ending of the Restoration Forums was a defacto confession that the NACC which preached unity but practiced diversion had failed.
  5. I assure you that all of the "white papers" prepared by the NACC and used to confiscate churches are based on checking references in a lexicon and contradict the Word of God and are therefore untruthful at best.
Again, we must note that both "vocal and instrumental rejoicing" was outlawed for the Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness. That is because the direct command was to REST, read and discuss the Word of God. That never changed in the synagogue as the SPIRITUAL THREAD running through the Old Testament and because as a "school of the Bible" it would be nonesense.

See the history of the Synagogue.

No Simple Simon woudl ever sing or make music while the elders were PREACHING by READING the text. That would be and is an insult to Jesus Christ our only Teacher.

The synagogue was identical to that practiced and commanded by Paul
1Tim. 4:9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

It was because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai that the Jews were blinded and would not be able to read black text on brown paper until they converted or were baptized into Christ:

Skillman: Of course this begs the crucial question for us and that is what the Bible may say about the use of instruments within the worship period.

To name just a few examples understood by anyone who had ever read the Bible with eyes open: there are dozens more.

1. The alarm or triumph was outlawed for "the church in the wilderness." Psalm 41 prophesied that Judas would try and fail to "triumph over" Jesus. The Judas bag was always attached to a flute case and was "for carrying the mouth pieces of wind instruments." One Hebrew word translates "play the flute, steal other's inheritance, pollute and prostitute." Even worse it defies "Lucifer as cast of heaven" and being in the Garden of Eden as a singing and harp playing prostitute.

2. Jesus cast out the musical minstrels using an equivalent Greek word meaning "more or less violently as one casts out dung."

3. Jesus consigned the pipers, singers and dancers to the marketplace where all of the polluted, often perverted, singers, dancers, speakers and sellers of radishes were quarantined.  When they hoped that John wore SOFT clothing that meant that they hoped that he was a Catamite available for their use as Jesus also implied when He called the Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. He pointed to Isaiah and Ezekiel which defines slick speakers, singers and instrument players: the MARK in Ezekiel is that all three were  people were seeking entertainment and would not listen to the Word.

4. Paul went pretty wild when they wanted to honor him with a Zeus sacrifice: this is well documented in Second Maccabees of the Abomination of Desolation which use emasculated youth to serve as musicians and prostitutes in the Temple

5. Before all of Paul's definition of the assembly (synagogue) he defines the ERROR generated under the Old Testament.  His very words reel of HYPOCRITES who use rhetoric to make the Word of non-effect.  Corrupting the Word is "selling learning at retail" and is defined as adultery.  Peter uses the sporting word many times which a minimal student understands as the musical and always perverted and perverting rituals of the pagans.

6. The Alpha and Omega had John warn about the Babylon Mother of Harlots who uses lusted after "fruits" as speakers, singers and instrument players: in Revelation 18 John calls them SORCERERS which defines musical enchanters who drug you with the sounds of instruments. The "baskets of summer fruits" has the same meaning in the warning by Amos.

Skillman: So, we want to spend some time talking about this. Instruments of music were used by the Israelites to praise God. Note especially Psalm 150, “ Praise God with the sound of the trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre, praise Him with the tambourine and dancing, praise Him with the strings and the flute, praise Him with the clash of cymbals, praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” The psalmist calls on all living creatures to praise God and to use everything at their disposal to praise God.

Reading Psalm 149 with understanding clearly implicated God when God had long ago abandoned them to worship the starry host: Sorry you missed Acts 7 etal.  The Levites derived from Levius or Dionysus in Egypt were not worship leaders. Music was used to "make the lamb dumb before the slaughter" or to intimidated and PROMISE that if they did not turn cowards they would be SODOMIZED. Real or virtual Sodomy is to prove the dominance of the Alpha Goat.

Apis the golden calf or calves represented Osiris, Isis and Horus: the pagan trinity of father, mother and son.

Horus was the posthumous son and heir of the god Osiris, the primordial king and giver of life. He was invited by his uncle, Seth, to spend a day. Seth’s real motive was not to show him hospitality but to disqualify him from inheriting his father’s royal power. To this end, while Horus slept Seth committed an act of sodomy upon him. Since sodomy was inflicted as a punishment on a defeated enemy and was a symbol of domination, Seth could then claim that he had conquered Horus and demand the kingship in his place.

The Modern mark of the theatrics and music radically outlawed by Paul as SELF pleasure in Romans 15 means:

"Of particular interest is the way that early modern playwrights, music theorists, and theater apologists addressed this conflated language of the "enemy," by echoing the same connections between sexuality and playing found in the most virulent antitheatrical tracts.  "As this paper will demonstrate, by "playing" with the conflated language, these writers defended their art,

justifying their existence in a society that was both seduced and repulsed by them. By claiming the polemical antitheatrical language, these players escaped from the ideological margins to which their opponents had tried to relegate them.

Using the artifices of mimesis (imitation) and comedy they pointed out and
defused their opponents' anxieties about music, theater, and sexuality,
creating a space for players in the cultural mainstream."

A study of Psalm 150 proves the same thing: this is the way a pagan PRAISES God meaning "to make self VILE" with sexual and musical PLAY to prove your superiority.

The abandoned to star worship consisted of the King, Clergy and Warriors. They do not define spiritual worship.

David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. Here is the list of the men who performed this service: 1 Chronicles 25:1

Payne insists that the Hebrew of 1 Chronicles 25:1 unambiguously identifies these leaders as military commanders, an interpretation favoured by several Bible translations. (Payne, p 423-4; NASB, NIV, NKJV, NRSV, Jerusalem Bible) If military commanders had a particular interest in the appointment of musicians, it suggests a strong link between music and warfare

Their task to "prophesy" did not mean that they were prophets but that they made themselves vile to intimidate the enemy.

"The Hithpa'el of nb', in the ancient texts, refers to ecstasy and delirium rather than to the emission of a 'prophecy'." (de Vaux, Roland, The Bible and the Ancient Near East, p. 243 Doubleday

"Maniac inspirations, the violent possession which threw sibyls and priestesses into contortions--the foaming lip and streaming hair and glazed or glaring eyes-- have no place in the self-controlling dignity of Christian inspiration. Even Jewish prophets, in the paroxysm of emotion, might lie naked on the ground and rave (1 Sam. xix. 24); but the genuine inspiration in Christian ages never obliterates the self-consciousness or overpowers the reason. It abhors the hysteria and stimulation and frenzy which have sometimes disgraced revivalism and filled lunatic asylums." (Pulpit Commentary, 1 Cor., p. 460).
Cyril of Alexandria, Commentary on John,

That the Pharisees puffed up unto strange boasting,
were wont to pretend that the Divine Word was with them and in them,
and therefore foolishly affirmed that they had advanced to marvellous wisdom,
        the Spirit Itself will testify,
since Christ says by the Prophet Jeremiah unto them,
How do ye say, WE are wise, and the word of the Lord is with us?
                For nought to the scribes became their lying pen;
                the wise
men were ashamed, were dismayed and taken;
                what wisdom
is in them? because they rejected the word of the Lord.

For how are they not taken rejecting the Living and Hypostatic Word of God, receiving not the faith to Him-ward,
but dishonouring the Impress of God the Father, and refusing to behold His most true Form (so to say)
through His God-befitting Authority and Power?

The spiritual thread was quarantined on the REST day so that they could not travel where the national worship of Babylon and Israel took place in the NOT commanded Temple.  A Holy Convocation meant to read and discuss the Word of God either written or brought by the elder of small groups in his head.

Jesus makes the division by appealing to Abraham, Moses and the prophets: the national worship under David was not based on the Law but of the "worship of the starry hosts." The Jewish Encyclopedia and just reading the text confirms that national Israel worshiped the STAR including the "wandering stars" or planets. That is why keeping of days and months and seasons worried Paul.

Psalm 150 is not a true Psalm as suitable for use a TEACHING PSALM which you speak in the assembly. The Levites are derived from Levius or Dionysus to which God abandoned the ELITE NATIONAL system because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai. When the elders fired God and demanded a king God knew that they wanted to worship like the nations or Gentiles: he turned them loose after warning that the kings would steal all of their property, take the tithe and take the children specificially the boys to make "instruments of chariots" which were musical as they ran before the chariots as the first to get killed. The Levites Guilds with Canaanite names were under the KING and COMMANDERS of the army. They were to make WAR and the "engraving" 150 was a warriors taunt songs. The praise word means to make yourself vile and the instruments have vile and effeminate backgrounds.

Women and girls from the different ranks of society were proud to enter the service of the gods as singers and musicians. The understanding of this service was universal: these singers constituted the 'harem of the gods'." (Quasten)

"Its (pipe = to love passionately) was apparently a secular instrument and is never listed in the temple orchestra; only in Ps. 150:4 it is mentioned in a religious (but not ritual) function. Its ethos was not blameless at all, as we see from Genesis Rabbah 50:

'The angels said to Lot: 'There are players of the pipe (organ) in the country, hence it ought to be destroyed'." Its rabbinical identification with the aboda, the flute of the notorious Syrian bayaderes, emphasizes the erotic element which already the Hebrew name suggests." (Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible, p. 460, Abingdon).

"The institution of dancing girls, therefore, became an accepted part of Indian society, even after it became a Muslim society in the Mughal era. Non-temple dancers known generally as tavaifs were not devadasis,

but were sophisticated courtesans
and repositories of culture and refinement.

However, the tavaifs were also "married" to trees and flowers in the same sense that the temple dancers were married to the deity. The institution was so accepted that no respectable wife would admit to training in singing and dancing because those were needed only by the lower caste dancing girls. In later times, these dancers would also be known as "Bayaderes" and would appear in other countries.

"The name of psaltery entered Christian literature in the 3rd century B.C. translation of the Old Testament called the Septuagint where, in the Psalms, nebel was translated psalterion. Thus, Nebuchadnezzar's idolatrous ensemble included the Aramic psantria. Notice, also, that the book of Psalms has also become known as the Psalter (or psalterium), from the hymns sung with this harp. Source

Psaltery reminds us of a NEW WINESKIN religion which is made of THAT WHICH DIED OF ITSELF:

Nebel (h5035) neh'-bel; or nebel nay'-bel; from 5034; a skin- bag for liquids (from collapsing when empty); hence a vase (as similar in shape when full); also a lyre (as having a body of like form): - bottle, pitcher, psaltery, vessel, viol

Nabel (h5034) naw-bale'; a prim. root; to wilt; gen. to fall away, fail, faint; fig. to be foolish or (mor.) wicked; causat. to despise, disgrace: - disgrace, dishonour, lightly esteem, fade (away, - ing), fall (down, -ling, off), do foolishly, come to nought, * surely, make vile, wither..

Nabal (h5036) naw-bawl'; from 5034; stupid; wicked (espec. impious): - fool (-ish, -ish man, -ish woman), vile person.

The pipes or organ was promoted by Jubal where handled means "without authority." It carries a sexual meaning.

CYMBALS: 6750.  = tsalal, tsaw-lal´; a primitive root (identical with 6749 through the idea of vibration); to tinkle, i.e. rattle together (as the ears in reddening with shame, or the teeth in chattering with fear):quiver, tingle.

6767.  tslatsal, tsel-aw-tsal´; from 6750 reduplicated; a clatter, i.e. (abstractly) whirring (of wings); (concretely) a cricket; also a harpoon (as rattling), a cymbal (as clanging):--cymbal, locust, shadowing, spear.

6751.  tsalal, tsaw-lal´; a primitive root (identical with 6749 through the idea of hovering over (compare 6754)); to shade, as twilight or an opaque object:--begin to be dark, shadowing.

, ae, m., = tumpanotribês,
I. a taborer, a timbrel-player, a term of reproach for a soft, effeminate person (alluding to the priests of Cybele),

T. Maccius Plautus, Truculentus, or The Churl
STRATOPHANES (to PHRONESIUM.) What say you? Why have you dared to say that you love another man?
PHRONESIUM I chose to.
STRATOPHANES Say you so, indeed? I'll first make trial of that. Do you, for the sake of such a shabby present, vegetables, and comestibles, and vinegar-water, bestow your love upon an effeminate, frizzle-pated, dark-haunt frequenting, drum-drubbing debauchee, a fellow not worth a nutshell:

6 Is he deranged: "Hariolus." Literally, "a soothsayer," or "diviner." In their prophetic frenzy, these persons often had the appearance of being mad, and were so considered.
7 Drum-drubbing debauchee: "Typanotriba." Literally, "drum," or "tambourine beater." He alludes to the eunuch-priests of Cybele, who used to beat tambourines in her procession-probably in allusion to debauchees, emasculated by riot and dissipation

The same is true of ALL of the instruments which David as king might use as a TAUNT SONG to threaten the enemy of quite vile treatment if they did not turn and run.  It worked for Gideon.

After the curse of the monarchy ended, only the shofar was retained and that was because it was NOT a musical instrument.

David's praise word means to make self vile which is what you do to panic the enemy: David never led the "worship service" and if he played his harp even in the inner court as the slaughter pen he would be executed.  This is the root word for the word LUCIFER. Zoe is Lucifer and is implicated as "the beast and female instructing principle."  One of the definitions of the BEAST in the literature means "A new style of song" which was always to discord the older people whose music connected to their memories. But, then, the change people INTEND to "upset your comfort zones" to force you into a NEW STYLE of music to PLEASURE people in violation of Paul's direct commands.

This is the Old Testament "praise" of a nation abandoned to worship the starry host (Acts 7)

Hillel, Judgex 12:13. This word deserves investigating, as it is clearly allied with praise, and has

This SOUND and LIGHT show of "making self vile" is the source for the word Lucifer--the singing and harp playing prostitute.

HOWEVER, as Peter Ainsle seems to agree, the "church in the wilderness is absolutely" INCLUSIVE OF:

But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm. Numbers 10: 7

To blow the trumpet was the Hebrew: Taqa (h8628) taw-kah'; a prim. root; to clatter, i. e. slap (the hands together), clang (an instrument); by anal. to drive (a nail or tent-pin, a dart, etc.); by impl. to become bondsman (by hand-clasping): - blow ([a trumpet]), cast, clap, fasten, pitch [tent], smite, sound, strike, * suretiship, thrust

The alarm was: Ruwa (h7321) roo-ah'; a prim. root; to mar (espec. by breaking); fig. to split the ears (with sound), i. e. shout for alarm or joy: - blow an alarm, cry (alarm, aloud, out), destroy, make a joyful noise, smart, shout (for joy), sound an alarm, triumph.

The verb rendered tinkling, alalazo, originally meant to repeat the cry alala, as in battle. It is used by Mark (6:38) of the wailings of hired mourners. Hence, generally, to ring or clang. Rev., clanging cymbal, is derived from (the Greek) a hollow or cup. The cymbal consisted of two half-gloves of metal which was struck together." (Vincent, p. 263)

Skillman: Instruments are also used to praise God in Revelation. In chapter 5 the four living creatures and the 24 elders fall down before the Lamb with harps and incense and sing a new song. In chapter 15 those who are victorious over the beast are given harps by God. In chapter 14:2 “Then I heard a sound from heaven like that of many waters and like the sound of loud music. The sound I heard was like harpists playing on their harps.”

No one PLAYS instruments in heaven: the SOUNDS up in the AIR over Zion are all sounds of PANIC and WARFARE and was clearly a MARK of judgment. That was to warn those not beyond redemption to preach the gospel. How could a person so deliberately  destroy a church and be so utterly ignorant of just the context.

What the elders were doing in heaven only portrays symbolically the true significance of the prayers of Christians on earth. Having each one a harp ... This also is grossly misunderstood as some kind of support for the proponents of instrumental music in the worship of Christ; but the harp here is purely symbolical, not of mechanical instruments of music, but of singing, an action in which the heavenly host immediately engaged. As Hinds expressed it, "From any viewpoint, the passage absolutely excludes the mechanical instrument." The triumphal enthronement of the Son of God in this chapter no sooner takes place, Christ having accepted the office of King of the Universe, "than there is a great burst of triumph and exuberant joy in three doxologies." Harps are a figure of speech and no one plays harps in the book of Revelation;

Holding or Having the "harp of God" means:
Echo Keep balanced, keep on guard 9. possess mentally, understand, do you understand? attend! listenknow of a thing,

David wrote poems and poems tend to be poetic: The psaltery is truth; singing is done with the harp.

I will also praise thee with the psaltery,
........... even thy TRUTH,
. ........... .......... O my God:
unto thee willI
........... with the harp,
........... ........... O thou Holy One of Israel. Psalm 71:22

Holding in the literal musical instrument sense:

keep up, maintain, kanachên eche made a rattling noise, of flutes and lyres,

KANACHE sound; esp. ring or clang of metal,  loud rang their tramp,
gnashing of teeth aulôn sound of flutes,
The Harps of God are those He created so that we can praise Him: we offer up the fruit of the lips which along with the lungs and vocal cord constitute a musical instrument.  They didn't sing or play:
Rev. 5:12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power,

Religious music was always the MARK of as one father noted "women or if males either drunk, perverted or just having fun." There is NO religious music which does not MARK the effeminate: the women and children ruling over you meaning the DOGS and WOLVES Paul warned the elders about.
In Revelation 18 John identifies the Muses as Sorcerers. Therefore, we doubt that he would recommend sorcery in the assembly as school of the Bible.

Allegorizing instruments is common: Of the Odes of Solomon

"As the hand moves over the harp, and the strings speak, so speaks in my members the Spirit of the Lord, and I speak by His love. For it destroys what is foreign, and everything that is bitter." Ode 6:1-3

"Teach me the Psalms of thy truth,
that I may bring forth fruit in thee: And
open to me the
harp of thy Holy Spirit,
that with all its notes I may praise thee, O Lord." Ode 14:7-8

I poured out praise to the Lord, for I am His: and
I will
speak His Holy song, for my heart is with Him.
For His

I will cry unto him from my whole heart: I will praise and exalt Him with all my members." Ode 26:1-4

This is fortold in Isaiah 30 which defines FOR WHOM hell was prepared: You are warned that God is driving His enemies into hell when you hear the wind, string and percussion instruments which were the same ones Lucifer brought with his/her/its fall.

The Book of Enoch quoted by Jude has the same story.

Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure:
        and their
glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it. Isa 5:14

Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms (MAGGOTS) cover thee. Is.14:11

And his breath [SPIRIT], as rushing water in a valley, reach reach as far as the neck, and be divided, to confound the nations for their vain error; error also shall pursue them and overtake them. Isaiah 30:28 LXX

Must ye always rejoice, and go into my holy places continually, as they that keep a feast? and must ye go with a pipe, as those that rejoice into the mountain of the Lord, to the God of Israel Isaiah 30:29 LXX

And it shall happen to him from every side, that they from whom their hope of assistance was, in which he trusted, themselves shall war against him in turn with drums and with harp. Isaiah 30:32 LXX

Amos, validated by Stephen, marked the worship in Israel (Judah came lately) as the PLAY at Mount Sinai which requested God to remove His grace and turn them back to worship the starry host.  Amos defines the same WINE, WOMEN AND SONG which marks the PRAISE "psalms" and God codemned Israel for being JUST LIKE DAVID:

Amos 6:1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria,
which are named chief of the nations, [Gentile troup of animals, flight of locusts, heathen
To whom the house of Israel came!
Amos 6:2 Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: t
hen go down to Gath of the Philistines:
Be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?
Amos 6:3 Ye that put far away the evil day,
        and cause the seat of violence to come near;
Amos 6:4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches,
        and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
Amos 6:5 That chant to the sound of the viol,
        and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
Amos 6:6 That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments:
But they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
Amos 6:7 Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive,
and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

His lips indeed had power to entrance mankind by means of instruments; a thing still possible today for anyone who can pipe his tunes: for the music of Olympus' flute belonged, I may tell you, to Marsyas his teacher. So that if anyone, whether a fine flute-player or paltry flute-girl, can but flute his tunes, they have no equal for exciting a ravishment, and will indicate by the divinity that is in them who are apt recipients of the deities and their sanctifications. You differ from him in one point only--that you produce the same effect with simple prose unaided by instruments. For example, when we hear any other person--

I have collected other versions to show that the SOUNDS of harps for instance would be like facing 10 thousand men twanging their bowstrings or harps and blowing trumpet to make one COWARD MAKING sound.

This is the WARNING which had probably sounded as most religious groups have been terrorized by professional musicians and inadequate preachers.

The SOUND warns you--if you are still among the living--to RESIST those people using lifeless instruments which are carnal weapons and PREACH THE GOSPEL with fear and trembling.

Skillman: So then, why don’t we use instruments? It has a lot to do with our way of interpreting Scripture and particularly what we believe it means when Scripture is silent about something. Our traditional practice has been that the New Testament addresses the issue of church music in two places – Ephesians 5:15 - 20 which says:

“Be very careful then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish,
but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.
Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
Sing and make melody in your heart to the Lord,

always giving thanks to God the Father for everything,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

  2. The reading is singING and makeING in the place of the HEART.
  3. You cannot SING tunefully without rejecting the direct command to SPEAK
  4. Sing and Speak cannot be done at the same time.
  5. No problem: the word speak EXCLUDES music.

The word PSALLO has never had any musical connection: if one plucks a bow string to send a singing arrow then someone wnats to kill you. If Apollo sends a love arrow at you then you understand the end-times music.  It means pluck with the fingers but NEVER WITH A PLECTRUM.  So, there goes the organ, piano, drums, trumpets and tambourines. That is why Paul insisted that the PLUCKING be in the HEART and not upon a harp.  You cannot speak and sing at the same time so Paul always meant what he wrote:

Ro.15:2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.

Aedificatio, III. Figurative, building up, instructing, edification. Absolute: loquitur ad Aedificationem Ecclesiae, Vulg. 1 Cor. 14, 12 ; ib. Eph. 4, 12.

The phrase loquitur ad Aedificationem Ecclesiae defines THE meaning of the ekklesia or church and the same METHOD excludes music of any kind.  Singing would be the ODE which defines "Hebrew cantillation" which means SPEAK as in the word SPEAK.

Getting drunk or FILLED UP with wine pointed directly to the symposia where if you wanted to discuss something important the voted to send out the flute-girl (synomym for prostitute) because the MUSIC literally forced you to DRINK MORE WINE.  Any bartender understands that.  Therefore, the word METHUO as with the crooked generation of skolion singers was almost BY DEFINITION using instrumental music. PROOF OF VILENESS:   Here we find the meaning of Noah's intoxication. His sin was not that of natural inebriety. There are other forms of intoxication than the one produced by the excessive use of wine. We often indicate certain states of mind by the term intoxication.

We say of an enthusiast that he is intoxicated with an undue zeal for the cause he is advocating. The wordly mind is often intoxicated with the success which attends its efforts and achievements.

The Bible frequently speaks of drunkenness to denote a state of spiritual pride. Ariel is said by the prophet Isaiah to be drunk. He says: "They are drunken but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink." Again he says: "The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim shall be trodden down." So we come to see that the story of Noah's drunkenness, considered spiritually,

is the description of the state into which the Ancient Church fell when it began to pervert and falsify the truths that were revealed to it. The people of that Church became sottish, intoxicated with the passion for mere truth separate from the life it taught, they laid in a state of spiritual stupor. This is what is meant by Noah being drunken with the wine of his vineyard.

PROOF OF VILENESS:  "Singing served as a means of inducing ecstatic prophecy (speaking in tongues).

Thus the essential relationship between music and prophecy can be clearly seen.
This relationship also explains why the expression for "
making music" and "prophesying" was often identical in the ancient tongues. origen contra celsum 8.67.
The Hebrew word
Naba signifies not only "to prophesy" but also "to make music." (Quasten, Johannes, Music and Worship in Pagan and Christian Antiquity, p. 39)

PROOF OF VILENESS:  "Dionysus is the wine-god, and thus should be a pleasant fellow, a benefactor. But wine has both positive and negative aspects. It makes people drunk, causes them to behave in strange ways. The Greeks were well aware of the dual natures of wine, mirrored by the dual nature of its god.... He betrays a dual nature: being bright, joyous, and vital for life,

while also having a side that is dark, mysterious and deadly.

"The adored wife of the fallen Hector, is taken as a concubine by the authentes, who can command her domestic and sexual services. The word also occurs in a homosexual sense in a speech by Theseus, king of Athens, where love of young boys was considered a virtue rather than a vice." (Charles Trombly, Who Said Women Can't Teach, p. 174)

PROOF OF VILENESS: "dionysus's worship is thus established by the simple means of killing the opposition. It has been suggested that every tragic hero who suffers and dies on stage at the Dionysia, the great dramatic festival at Athens (of the South?), is in fact dionysus himself, being killed."

But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority (authenteo) over the man, but to be in silence.1Ti.2:12

In every Greek city the god Dionysus (New wineskin god) was worshipped by fraternities and sororities and also by mixed communities. Dionysus was a god of fruitfulness and vegetation but especially of wine. The Dionysiac festivals provided an opportunity for stepping outside of the daily routine. The festivals included not only drinking wine and engaging in sexual activity but also participating in such significant features of Greek civilization as choral singing and mimes. In many cases, only the initiated could participate in the ceremonies. As almost every Greek did join in, initiation into the Dionysiac cult might be compared to tribal initiations. It seems that initiation into the Dionysiac Mysteries was accompanied by initiation into sexual life. The act of producing offspring, however, could never be wholly separated from the thought of death, so that the worshippers of Dionysus were aware of a mystic communion among the ancestors, the

The singing and twanging is IN THE HEART and directed TO GOD and not an audience.  Paul is speaking of the EFFECT on the heard and not "with a HARP in your heart."  Here are many APPROVED PROOFS:

The man who was dying blessed me; I made the widow's heart sing. Jb.29:13

So my heart laments for Moab like a flute;
it laments
like a flute for the men of Kir Hareseth. The wealth they acquired is gone. Je.48:36

My heart laments for Moab like a harp,
inmost being for Kir Hareseth. Is.16:11

And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.Lu.1:47

Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Ac.2:26

In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. Lu.10:21

Here is how Apollo or Abbadon does it in the LITERAL SENSE:
The bowstring touch'd her breast, so strong she drew;
Whizzing in air the fatal arrow flew.
At once the twanging bow and sounding dart
The traitor heard, and felt the point within his heart.
Thy scarlet-tinctured foot? or from my bow
The lyre of Phoebus [Apollo, Apollyon] to thy notes attuned
Will not protect thee; farther stretch thy wings;
Go, wanton, skim along the Delian lake,
Or wilt thou steep thy melody in blood.
Here some examples from the Classics.

If you look at what Paul TAUGHT so you don't get ANY OPINIONS look at the parallel.

Skillman: Paul cautions the church to live as wise people. He says that time is precious because the days are evil and so we must not waste time like foolish people do. He explains what he means by this. Foolish people waste time drinking too much. Instead, Paul says we must be filled with the Spirit. When people are filled with the Spirit, they will speak to each

other in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, making music in their hearts to the Lord, giving thanks to him. Singing is the natural response to the Spirit’s presence in us

No, there is NO comment about MAKING MUSIC in the heart. The word PSALLO has no musical connection: it simply means to pluck something like a bow sting. The first major usage speaks of literal making war. The second speaks of pollution and only as a METAPHOR to shoot out a hymn.

See a Review of Lynn Anderson's false teachings on the word Psallo used by many seduced by the NACC.

See Lynn Anderson's review: part twol

That is why Paul used the PARALLEL word GRACE: both melody (melos) and grace are qualities of SPEECH: since history notes that "melody as tunefulness belongs to the 19th century" we KNOW that they were NOT making music: Simple Simon would not make music when speaking the WORDS OF CHRIST.

Jesus and Paul said that the WORDS of Christ or that which is written is the RESOURCE: you fill up with the SPIRIT when you fill up with the WORDS of Christ the Spirit. Only THEN are you competent to TEACH, admonish and "comfort with Scripture."

Skillman:Then in Colossians 3:16 we read:

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”

In Colossians Paul says that Christians are freed from the powers of this world and that they are set free to live a new life, which focuses on things above and not on earthly things. Paul tells them to put away the old ways of life and put on the new. One of these new ways is to let the peace of Christ rule our lives. He says that Christians are called to peace. How do we demonstrate this peace? He says that the Word of Christ should live in us and when the word of Christ lives in us then we will teach and admonish each other in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. These songs and hymns are to be offered to God in gratitude. In singing we are to be concerned about our fellow Christians because we are to instruct each other through singing and we are to thank God who has made our new life possible (see Colossians 3:1-17). In effect, singing is the natural response to the peace the Gospel brings.

Look above to see that  the PURPOSE DRIVING all of the NEVER MUSICAL passages is to "teach that which is written" which Paul defines as Scriptures. That is the ONLY way to glorify God, comfort, keep the unity, teach and admonish.

To JUDGE people based on the Law of Moses--from whence people get their authority for instruments "to silence the voice of the victim." That means that YOU cannot IMPOSE anything outside of the real of "school of the Bible."  You are freed FROM and not freed TO impose your "doubtful disputations" on others.

No: it is easy to understand the direct command to "teach that which Christ taught" to DISCIPLES never called worshipers. It is called Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs--all the inspired text.  It is called "teaching that which has been taught." It is called THE WORD OF CHRIST.  It is called SPIRIT which Jesus said is MY WORDS. Music by definition is intended to "silence the voice of the victim." OUR words is a repudiation of the written words of the Living Word.  The Book of Enoch quoted by Jude proves that MUSIC was alwys to reject the Living word: the Son of God.

CRY aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgressio, and the house of Jacob their sins. Isaiah 58: 1

Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways [Seek like a necromancer], as (if they were) a nation that did righteousnes, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delightin approaching to God. Isaiah 58: 2

Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Isaiah 58: 3

Rather than to reform their lives and gain God's blessing it was much more exciting to continue their evil lives and then try to make up for it with "prayer services" or "prayer and fasting" services.

Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, Matt 15:7

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. Mt.15:8

But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Matt 15:9

Jesus pointed to Isaiah 29 and Ezekiel 33 to identify the Scribes and Pharisees as hypocrites:

And they come unto thee as the people cometh,
        and they sit before thee
as my people,
and they hear thy words,
but they will not do them:

for with their mouth they shew much love,

but their heart goeth after their covetousness. Ezekiel 33:31

And, lo, thou art unto them
        as a
very lovely song of
        one that hath a
pleasant voice,
and can play well on an instrument:
for they hear thy words,
but they do them not. Ezekiel 33:32

And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. Isa 58:12

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him,

not doing thine own ways,
nor finding thine own pleasure,
nor speaking thine own words: Isa 58:13

Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord;
and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth,
and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father:
for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. Isa 58:14

Skillman: ! A distinction between a behavior that is characteristic of our pre- Christian life (drunkenness etc.) and our new Christian life.

Some have said that since only singing is mentioned that silence constitutes a prohibition to sing with instruments. It is difficult to ever know what silence means. It may mean disapproval. It may mean apathy. It may mean nothing. If I say to you that Neil Diamond is singing at the American Airlines Center, would anyone be surprised that when we arrive, we find that an orchestra, band or piano accompanies him? When it comes to Christian music this exclusion does not seem clear

when the Scripture condones instrumental music in the Old Testament,
but doesn’t explicitly forbid it in the New Testament –

Melody as tunefulness belongs to the 19th century: besides none of the Bible is metrical and you cannot sing it in the modern effeminate style. To sing is to ode or with the Jews to cantillate with no tune.

Whatever WE think the word sing then and now dows not include an instrument: a psalm or song has the "human voice as the first instrument of choice." Furthermore, you would call Neil Diamond to PERFORM.

From the singing and harp playing prostitute in the garden of Eden to the Babylon mother of harlots who uses lusted after fruits as speakers, singers and instrument players called sorcerers and all of church history no one ever believed that God COMMANDED that they fire Him and set a king over them and they know that all of the Scripture condones instrumental music in the Old Testament that they were engaging in the pagan sacrificial system IMPOSED on them because of musical idolatry at Mount Sinai.

From the prophecy that Judas would try to triumph musically over Jesus to Jesus casting out the musical minstrels like dung to Jesus consigned the pipers, singers and dancers to the pollutants of the marketplace, to the approved example of Jesus in the synagogue, to Pauls direct command which EXCLUDES selfpleasure which excludes music I believe it is unforgivable to say but doesn’t explicitly forbid it in the New Testament.

We remind you that Christ ordained the Holy Convocation and the only reason for assembling the citizens was for instruction. This was always each REST day where they read and discusssed the Word: they surlly would not allow an elder to come in and presume to pass judgment on the clear statements of the Word as it was being delivered to them. Vocal and instrumental rejoicing was forbidden because little Simple Simon knew not to make noise when God was speaking through the elders of small groups.

God calls it noise and never musis: if one blows 120 trumpets with one note while burning the goats music that does not make. This loud noise was by the Levites who were old agents fo Levius or Dionysus in Egypt.  AFTER musical idolatry at Mount Sinai God turned them over to worship the starry host (read acts 7 etal, etal) and only after the "elders" fired God and demanded a national king just like those of Canaan or Babylon did God promise that the Kings would steal their "tithes and offerings" and give the people's inheritance to the "staff members."  In all national sacrificial systems the NOISE was called exorcism and the musicians on a daily dole of food at the temple were called PARASITES.

Prophets like Nehemiah by the Spirit of Christ called them robbers and parasites.

Ooozing from many direct statements--for those with ears instruments are MARKS of the musical minstrels whom Jesus cast out like dung. He consigned the pipers, singers and instrument players to the marketplace along with all of the other pagan performance.  And on and on but when you question the WORD and pretend to judge it, God gladly sends you strong delusions to force you to believe a lie: the LYING WONDERS define the theatrical spectacle and history is agreed that "people set their lies to melodies to deceive the simple minded."

Skillman: it is mentioned in the book of Revelation. In both texts Paul is concerned about our commitment to encouraging others and expressing gratitude and it is hard to see how instruments impede either of these concerns. Perhaps we have been so focused on the form our music is to take that we have unintentionally de-emphasized what Scripture tells us about the purpose of music.

The Latin in Numbers 10 where vocal and instrumental rejoicing is outlawed uses the word ACADEMY: The Campbells called Church a School of Christ and worship is reading and musing the Word. That is what Christ commanded in the wilderness, what the Jews always did as they were quarantined from the sacrificial system, what Jesus exampled, what Paul commanded and did out on mission and what the historic Church of Christ did before pagan priests became bishops to get money.  Singing as an ACT did not happen until the year 373 and then split the east and west church.

Music was know to the most ancient people as something that disturbed the minds of a large part of the population

No one PLAYS harps in the book of Revelation: from Mount Zion they heard SOUNDS from up above them: all of the SOUNDS are proven to be warnings by inducing alarm. The SECOND ANGEL to those still living was that JUDGMENT was coming so preach the gospel.  If anything, the music among the living would be the MARK that they had no intention of preaching the gospel which is NOT the purpose of rhetorical sermons for money.

The fact is that no one COMMANDS singing: the direct command is to SPEAK that which is written. The Greek SPEAK is clearly defines as the opposite of poetry or music. Because the Bible was never and is not now metrical, and the Text is the commanded resource for teaching, it was never sung in what the Jewish Encyclopedia notes as screaching and screaming in the a cappella which means the pope's castrates and even among the Israelites was in the form of "virginal" or falsetto.

Skillman: Having said this, we believe there is much to be said in favor of acapella music. It has been one of our distinctive contributions to music in the Christian world. We do sing well and this is a blessing. Our words are not drowned out by an organ or band. We are not convinced that the addition of instrumental music would contribute to our growth. Nor are we convinced that acapella music is an impediment to growth, though we admit Page 8 of 10 that some young adults have told us that they are drawn to the contemporary music of churches such as Watermark.

God gave senior, male elders to lift holy PALMS without WRATH: that means ORGY which is something only the young are seeking as entertainment: they simply have not been taught the meaning of reverence and Godly fear ahd the PURPOSE DRIVING the church to inclucate those Godly values by teaching those great epics which REJECTED music.  If you add instruments you will have to up the ante and ADMIT that women and children are ruling overy you.

Skillman: We do not believe that instrumental music in the worship service is a sin or that it should be a reason to divide ourselves from other Christians. We believe that the New Testament is silent and we cannot say with confidence that such silence means a prohibition against the use of instruments. Out of respect for our history and tradition we plan for Skillman to remain an acapella church as it relates to our song service together.

That is true: those who introduced instruments became the MUSICAL SECTARIANS and invited the owners to get over it or get out.  In no case was any of the owners permitted to oppose the hostile takeover. Nevertheless Dwight Roberts pnans to SEPARATE from those who pay his bill in order to UNIT with those who have undoubtedly seduced him with lies about all of the "music" passages..

We do not object to videos with instrumental tracks as an enhancement to,
or in support of how a lesson, message or meditation is brought to this church family.

If the elders as the only Pastor-Teacher teaches that which is written we won't have to ENHANCE the word of God. That is the meaning of PRAISE SINGING as the OLDEST PROFESSION: the purpose was to help the gods not fail--again

Skillman: Because of our focus on “seeking and saving the lost,” there are few boundaries that we would place on how a message is delivered, with an intention to deliver the message in the most effective and impressive way. We certainly do not object to members using instruments in settings outside the Sunday morning worship service either. Ours is a more fundamental and basic challenge – to bring every member into a closer relationship with God, and to engage every one of us in being about the work of the Master.

Jesus told the Apostles to GO INTO ALL THE WORLD and seek and save the lost. There are plenty of honest, hard working evangelists who will be happy to have all of the money, energy and whatever to GO preach the gospel which is THE ONLY POWER TO SALVATION.

The rise of the musical worship team (the muses or locusts of Abaddon) was basedon the claim to "lead the worshipers into the presence of God." Because Jesus Christ died for that role and is the only mediator, that claim is that they stand in the HOLY PLACE of architecture CLAIMING that they are God.  You cannot bring people any closer to God than you are said Alexander Campbell. Besides it is physically impossible to GIVE HEED (Paul'sonly worship concept) to God and the theatrical musicians at the same time.  That was the old Lucifer Principle as the musical enchanter of "bleeding off worship due only to God through his word."

Besides all of that Paul always repudiates music before he defines the ONLY ROLE of the church as a school of the Bible.

Paul always DEFINES the pagan (new style singing as a mark of the beast) before he defines the SOLE purpose of the ekklesia or synagogue or school of the Bible which EXCLUDES the marketplace preferences (Romans 15) and INCLUDES the Scriptures to educate, glorify God and keep the unity.

Skillman: We plan to continue to conduct services using both traditional and contemporary music on Sunday. We plan to continue to sing a significant number of great traditional hymns while also taking advantage of the many wonderful contemporary hymns that Christian hymn writers are producing. We do seem to forget that all of our great traditional hymns were at one time wonderful contemporary hymns! Many of us have strong feelings about hymns. Hymns speak strongly to our emotions and spirits, but surely we all realize that we don’t all feel or think the same about the diversity of hymns available today. So, we call the church to be tolerant of our need to meet the needs of many personalities and preferences at Skillman.

While that may be true the Bible is very explicit about the RESOURCES for the ekklesia where Paul used "synagogue" terms. The Resource in Romans 15 is "that which is written" to be spoke with one mind and one mouth. This he defines as Scripture which brings us Comfort. It is the only way to glorify God and keep the unity.  In Ephesians the command is to fill up with "spirit" which Jesus said is His Words (John 6:63).  Then we are to SPEAK externally and the melody and singing is IN THE HEART and directed to God and not the audience.  In Colossians 3 the command is to use THE WORD OF CHRIST which is defined as the same inspired Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. The purpose is to teach and admonish. Therefore, the ACT of singing and using human compositions refuses to use the songs and sermons from Jesus Christ.

When a particular service includes more of your preferences and fills your soul with joy and gladness at what God has done for you, Praise God! When a particular service does not meet your preference in song selection, order and implementation, Praise God! because it probably did good to someone else who was here, and may have filled their soul with joy and gladness at what God has done for all of us.

But, the purpose is to TEACH and Paul outlaws SELF PLEASURE. Praise singing is documented as the OLDEST PROFESSION and it was a legalistic effort to CALL INTO BEING that which was PRAISED.  It was always to PROP UP the gods so that they did not fail again.

In short, your elders call for tolerance and a renewed focus on what is really important in fulfilling our mission on this earth: To “fear God and keep His commandments” as Solomon so briefly stated. We are to be about the Lord’s work in this place – and that means we focus on others, not ourselves.

To summarize this section on instrumental music:

The New Testament does not specifically address the use of instruments in the worship assembly.

I insist that it does: beginning with the Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness which was a school of the Word and vocal and instrument rejoicing was outlawed. Just common sense: you don't need a law to PREVENT music when God comes to speak to us when the elders "teach that which has been taught."

The utter failure at the educational level is that scholars quote scholars and rarely quote the source: most often in our experience they totally twist the older scholars and the Restoration writers because they cannot resist to pick what proves their point.

If we are to be precise about “speaking where the Bible speaks, and silent where the Bible is silent,” we have other practices that would need to be reconsidered.

We have proven that to SPEAK where the Bible speaks--even if you hallunicate tunefulness--demands to sing "that which is written with one mind and one mouth." Paul in Romans 15 defines this as "scripture" and defines it as the way to glorify or praise God who composed all of the songs and sermons in that "Jesus paid it all."  The elders as the Pastor-teachers are commanded to teach that which has been taught. The "synagogue" or school of the Bible is defined over and over by Paul.  So we CAN all SPEAK THE SAME THINGS.

We have shown that there is no MUSICAL content to what God calls NOISE: the word SPEAK is defined as the opposite to poetry or music. Why? Why, because everyone knew that "people set their lies to melodies to deceive the simple.  The purpose is to TEACH and ADMONISH and "machines for doing hard work mostly in making war" cannot teach.  Habbakup warns that they cannot so when "God is in His holy temple let all the earth keep silence before Him." Command.

This is a command well documented in the Bible,
all historic scholars and founders of denominations. Because the purpose is to hold "school of the Bible" pews and toilets do not DETRACT from the teaching function.  However, the Bible fairly SHOUTS against instruments to mean "they will NOT listen to the Words of God."  With the modern "praise ditties" that needs no proving.

Because church is SCHOOL OF THE BIBLE and its textbook the BIBLE it becomes pretty easy to determine whether our changes contribute to the educational system of the mysteries of Christ. Music by definition from mystery means to "silence the voice of the victime." In the sacrificial system it is called "sacred violence" so that to repeat it is to impose violence on people we are pledged to educate using the Biblical text.

Your elders have concluded through our study that the use of instruments in our worship service with our singing would not constitute sin, but acapella singing represents a preference to our history and heritage.

The Bible and all church fathers and founders of denominations disagree.  The Bible is filled with direct connections between the instrument and telling God to "shut your face."  It was outlawed for the synagogue in the wilderness and never used during the Old Testament and not until the year 1815 in a liberal German synagogue.  I believe that making singing a PREFERENCE constitutes a loophole!

Our intention is for Skillman to remain an acapella church with respect to our singing in the worship assembly.

Instrumental music may be introduced for other aspects of a service, such as a video with an attached music track.

This is the patternism followed by all of those who have "gone all the way" and added instruments.  Because Paul's unique worship word means to "give heed to the Word of God" it has hard to understand how there is time to use instrumental material: like all good movies, the music intends to swell up the material and music shuts down the rational or spiritual hemisphere so that you CANNOT tell whether the material is true or false.

This is called "boiling the frog" and is almost always the prelude to softening people up: once the disturbance has settled down the practice in those new instrumental churches as stolen property is to escalate.  One noted preacher promised not to add instruments on the Lord's Day until the Lord comes.  When time was right he said that the Spirit gave him permission to add it on the Lord's Day. When challenged his response was "that was then and this is now." By denying it is a sin and by using music in "other settings" whether intentional or not it is the "gradualism" used from the most ancient times.

Aristotle: Melody Deceives: "Poets also make use of this in inventing words, as a melody "without strings" or "without the lyre"; for they employ epithets from negations, a course which is approved in proportional metaphors..

The form of diction should be neither metrical nor without rhythm.
If it is
metrical, it lacks persuasiveness, for it appears artificial, and at the same time it distracts the hearer's attention, since it sets him on the watch for the recurrence of such and such a cadence..

According to Philo, the gods of the pagans exploit this weakness of men. For the sake of a better effect, and with the intention of more easily cheating their devotes, that they have set their lies to melodies, rhythms and meters.." Click for more.

There is a reason God talks so much about singing – because it unites us! He gave us the gift of song. Music has lost its unifying effect in society, and we are hopeful that Skillman can be more mature and accepting so that we won't say the same thing about church worship someday. Singing old songs, new songs and in-between songs together, lifting our voices in praise and adoration to the God of the Universe, and to the Son who died for us is a privilege. It is a unifying activity and a way to lift our spirits; to use a tremendous blessing; and to thank God for all of His wonderful gifts.

There is NO singing in the Bible which is TUNEFUL: melody as tunefulness belongs to the 19th century and harmony did not begin to develop until after about 1200. The word SONG was a poem and none of the Bible is metrical in a tuneful sense so you could not SING it if your life depended on it.  After the Reformation when they wanted to speak the Psalms as a song, they had to be radically recomposed to make them metrical. Even then, there was no harmony. Paul commanded that we SPEAK that which is written with one mind and one mouth as a way to UNITY.  Even "harmony" at that time meant speaking in unison.

Thank you for your diligent attention this morning. I remind you of the Question and Answer session to occur in the Rotunda this afternoon at 4:00. Again, if you are unable to be there but would like to make your feelings, and the result of your study known, the elders will welcome a signed letter or email. In the meantime, if you would like a CD of one, or all of the three Bible Class lessons, you may fill out a yellow card at the end of the pews (extra’s are on the table at the front of the auditorium beside the drop box). Fill out the card and put it in the drop box. The CDs are free, but we ask you to please pick them up from the church office, and we will call you when your order is ready. If you prefer an electronic version of the entire lesson, please put your email address on the yellow card. If you don’t have access to email, or would prefer a printed copy of the text, pick up a copy as we conclude and if we run out of those copies, put your address on the card so that we can mail you one. We also intend to post both a text copy and a podcast of the lesson on the Skillman website.

Next week, we will discuss the role of women in the church, particularly as it relates to the Sunday morning worship period. Thank you for your attention and consideration.

While Skillman has called in all of the experts we will look at the actual direct commands of Paul, define the words beyond a simple dictionary and look at ways the concept of SILENCE is always a prelude to LISTENING.  The church in the wilderness never changed the two major FUNCTIONS as a school of the Bible: the senior elders PREACH the Word by READING and everyone else remains silent because the church is a school of the Bible and we are made into disciples and not ceremonial legalists to which people perform singing or prayer.

Mail Kenneth Sublett, retired engineer, manufacturer, ex elder, EX everything! I claim to have collected most of the data beginning with clay tablets and I assure you that you will never find any good attributed to music and you will find that it all points to truly bad people usually as a mark of refusing to hear God's Word.

This is a quick review: I will take apart the Women ruling over you later.  I intended this to be a private letter but I see that your goose has already been cooked by people I believe are deliberately lying about the Bible, all known literature, founders of denominations and the law of common ethics.
