K.C.Moser

The Righteousness of God is the theme the ACU Summit and of K.C.Moser from The Way of Salvation. Because people say you cannot talk about Romans without mentioning K.C.Moser, this review will focus on some of the passages used by all faith-only teaching.  Whatever the "thesis" or method of "imagination" to interpret the Bible, it is never valid to take a verse or part of a verse and then "imagine" what the writer should have said.  This, however, is the marching orders at LU this year followed up with some of the same authorities at ACU. However, God gave us what we needed to know to live a life of righteousness and justice and warned that the "imaginations of the heart is only evil continually."

Because students of theology depend heavily upon the "Spirit" to do the right thing, lifting verses or phrases is still a common method of defining faith and practice.  Honesty and the Bible insists that we "sing that which is written" and "teach that which has been taught." Isaiah 55 outlaws seeking our own pleasure or even "speaking our own words."  I do not do "prose" but I will show that the isolated "phrases" are repudiated by the Bible as it now exists.

I have begun to whittle away at K.C.Moser's view on the Gift of the Holy Spirit or the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  Click Here.  Revised 7.04.09 I will quickly add additional notes but you have to be "converted" because I insist on looking at the context and not just quotes from a lexicon.  His views fuel many of the changelings but they are totally wrong if they think that they can get by with claiming the "Holy Spirit" told them to lie about all of the music passages. John Calvin from whom they THINK they get the idea of "filling in God's silence" called such people fanatics.  Moser also uses a totally alien form of reasoning when he asks and denies Can The Gospel be Obeyed?

The solution fails when words like righteousness, justification and salvation are not defined: Jesus sent the Apostles out to MAKE DISCIPLE: those who believed were to be baptized and involved with learning everything Jesus in person or the Spirit of Christ taught.  A disciple is a student and there is no concept of "a punched ticket on the joy bus to heaven." The defection of the "church" from the ekklesia, synagogue or church in the wilderness proves that theology is involved in turf-battle and not in "singing the word which is written" and "teaching that which has been taught."  When you enroll students in the School of Christ they do not have to be experts in concepts Moser demands BEFORE they can be saved.
  1. Only people who "fear God and worketh righteousness are acceptable."  John refused to baptize believers whom he knew to be of the "viper" generation UNTIL they repented and proved it by their action.
Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
Acts 10:35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
No person was righteous based on the Law of Moses or the natural religion of the Gentiles. Their righteousness bassed on the rules of society was never good enough ever for the most godly people. Certainly the Jews could not claim superiority over the Gentiles and this must be seen as the subject of all of Paul's discussion contrasting THE FAITH with THE LAW.
  2. Those who obey that form of doctrine in baptism are then said to be "free from sin." They now have A holy spirit because baptism is the only thing Scripture says remits sins because that is the "requesting" action ordained by Jesus as the obedient Son. (1 Pet 3:21)
  3. Those who are "righteous" because they live right and practice justice then have the true righteousness of God with A holy spirit or A good conscience.  In 2 Corinthians 3 Paul told the Roman Jews that they would not be able to read BLACK text on BROWN paper until they converted or were baptized into Christ. That simply means that as the fulfilment of the physical type, we have accepted the sacrifice, been baptized in the laver and can enter into the Church of Christ.  That is the "synagogue" symbolized by the seven lamps or spirits of Divine knowledge, the bread of fellowship and the right to come boldly before the throne of Grace where we offer the fruit of the lips at the "incense" altar.  And even that is because at baptism we are "clothed with Christ" so we can enter God's presence in our OWN now-holy spirit.
Moser's disciples say that CONVERSION is really only FAITH, therefore, their sins are removed by FAITH-ONLY.
  4. With God's sprinkling of our conscience from sin He then dwells by faith when His Word lives or indwells our own spirit. That does not mean that we personally holy.  The WAY by which both Father and Son is
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him,
If a man love me, he will keep my words:
and my Father will love him,
and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
John 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings:
and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love;
even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love
.
Moser says that's not true: Jesus should have said IF you have faith then WE will come UNTO and live WITH you. I am sure that Moser's disciple say that when Jesus obeyed the Father's commandments He was just a LEGALIST? Or that dying on the cross was NOT obedience: it was just FAITH.

And yet, Moser pleads for little Aaron to know everything about tentmaking before he can be "baptized and adopted" by the Master Tentmaker who knows all of the trade secrets.  There is no demand that people be legalistically equipped as a doctor of the Law: the point is "do you believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God." Confessing that, is all that Philip required when the eunuch wanted to be baptized based on his reading of Isaiah and understanding that Messiah had come. Here is what the neo-Moserites insist on:
"Rather, the issue of the gospel invitation is "Christ crucified, Christ man's sin-bearer, Christ the Savior." Whoever walks down the aisle to confess his faith and be baptized is exchanging "his own righteousness, his morality, and his despair for Christ, for a Savior."  He is "not offering his obedience in exchange for salvation," but is "accepting Christ as sin-bearer, Savior, Redeemer."  The issue, then, rests in whether the act of baptism is a work of human righteousness (even if it is in obedience to a divine command, just as morality is) or whether it is faith accepting the gift of God's righteousness in Jesus Christ.  The former is legalism, and the latter is gospel obedience.  Moser feared that the former dominated the teaching and preaching of his brothers. Hicks

Moser has never heard any preacher preach their own "righteousness" meaning "sinless perfection." His--and his disciple's--patternism intends to make the steps or turning process to mean JUST FAITH-- ONLY since obeying the Incarnate God of the universe is defined as LEGALISM. Too bad Jesus didn't have his Phd because HE made "sonship" mean obedience to all of the commands of a "father." This is a dangerous repudiation of all authority and one says that "they still have unresolved conflicts with their mother."

When Jesus used "believeth not" the word is Apistos which means NOT to comply, to be in revolt or to be treacherous.
It is very possible that only the rare disciple in church history could qualify for the very legalistic demands of Moser.  This would see to be a non-issue if a real church is constituted with elders as the pastor-teachers who PREACH by READING the Word of God and let the majesty of the inherent "Spirit" do its job of changing hearts.  If one lives a hundred years without learning about "imputed" maybe God will be more tolerant than a college professor.

It may have been from K.C.Moser that H.Leo Boles soaked up his totally radical view of Tritheism first lectured at FHU in 1938 and published in 1942.  This began the heresy of the Godhead as three persons able to stand side by side or face to face; ranked 1, 2 and 3 and able to hold conferences about which would be best suited for the three dispensations. This fed into the Gospel Advocate Sunday School material: when I returned to Tennessed they were "worshiping the name of God, the name of Jesus and the name of the Holy Spirit.

A new generation of liberal scholars have deified K.C.Moser: I come not to bury Moser but to refute him. He followed a "new style" theology which believes that some "spirit" must guide them when they take verses out of context and utterly fail to look where men like Paul pointed in the Old Testament and in parallel passages in other letters.  This will add more Moser-specific data in time.  These notes stand independant of K.C.Moser, Randy Harris and others looking for "mystical" experiences.  They use the same out of context verses used by modern Baptists and other "faith-only" people.
The NEW PLAN is just-Jesus replacing the OLD PLAN:
the new PARADIGMISTS or the old PATTERNISTS.
The CORE is Gospel without Jesus.

The other joke God pulls is based on a word: Just Jesus but NOT what Jesus commanded.

Kŕrugma  (kerusso) A. that which is cried by a herald, proclamationII. preaching, Ev.Luc. 11.32
God SENT Jonah:
Luke 11:32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
Sophocles, Antigone 1 Ismene, my sister, true child of my own mother, do you know any evil out of all the evils bequeathed by Oedipus that Zeus [prechers call him Je-Zeus now] will not fulfil for the two of us in our lifetime? There is nothing--no pain, no ruin, [5] no shame, nor dishonor--that I have not seen in your sufferings and mine. And now what is this new edict that they say the general has just decreed to all the city? Do you know anything? Have you heard? Or does it escape you that [10] evils from our enemies are on the march against our friends?

[450]
Yes, since it was not Zeus that published me that edict, and since not of that kind are the laws which Justice who dwells with the gods below established among men. Nor did I think that your decrees were of such force, that a mortal could override the unwritten [455] and unfailing statutes given us by the gods.

Aeschines 3. [154] For what Greek, nurtured in freedom, would not mourn as he sat in the theater and recalled this, if nothing more, that once on this day, when as now the tragedies were about to be performed, in a time when the city had better customs and followed better leaders, the herald would come forward and place before you the orphans whose fathers had died in battle, young men clad in the panoply of war; and he would utter that proclamation so honorable and so incentive to valor; “These young men, whose fathers showed themselves brave men and died in war, have been supported by the state until they have come of age and now, clad thus in full armour by their fellow citizens, they are sent out with the prayers of the city, to go each his way and they are invited to seats of honor in the theater.”

A PREACHER PREACHES WHATEVER HE IS COMMANDED: there is no kernal or core truth in the Bible: Jesus commanded that the preacher GO and teach what He had taught them or would reveal to them.

2783. kerux, kay┤-roox; from 2784; a herald, i.e. of divine truth (especially of the gospel): -- preacher.

2784. kerusso, kay-roos┤-so; of uncertain affinity; to herald (as a public crier), especially divine truth (the gospel): -- preacher(-er), proclaim, publish.

Athenian Law did not let philosophers or poets go out as heralds (presbyters or Kersso) becaus their imagination always changed the direct command.

"In many cases heralds are very garrulous and inclined to exaggerate. They are thus in danger of giving false news. It is demanded then that they deliver their message as it is given to them. The essential point about the report which they give is that it does not originate with them ...The herald does not express his own views. He is the spokesman for his master... Being only the mouth of his master, he must not falsify the message entrusted to him by additions of his own." (Robinson, Homiletics, p. 804).

"Preaching appears in the Bible as a relaying of what God has said about Himself and His doings, and about men in relation to Him, plus a pressing of His commands, promises, warnings, and assurance, with a view to winning the hearer or hearers ...to a positive response." (Homiletics, p. 820).

"The word that is employed for this "anaginosko, anagnosis) is the technical term for the cultic reading aloud of the Old Testament in the synagogue. By applying this terminology to the reading of his own epistles he not only ascribes the same authority to the apostolic word as to the Old Testament writings...he also combines a quotation from the Old Testament with a word of Jesus and introduces the whole with the familiar formula: 'for the Scripture says.'" (Ridderbos, Hermon, Paul, P. 483 an Outline of His Theo., Eerdmans)
Those who have grasped the "faith only" view now repudiated by half of the Baptists and never really taught in history are the same ones who have sought "unity" with the NACC.  No one ever said that baptism does not save who did not quickly add "without faith."  The K.C.Moser, ACU mantra is that everything must be lumped under FAITH in order to repudiated the historic Church of Christ views that only "those who have obeyed that form of doctrine" are THEN "free from sin."  The Moser heresy is that Paul was never talking about THE LAW of moses (added because of musical idolatry) but THE LAW PRINCIPLE.  Moser trips up because he lifts his favorite passages without seeing how Paul treats the same idea in other letters.

Under the ACU Lectureship SUMMIT I have posted the views of the CIVILLIANS which does not use the rationale of Theology: after all, Jesus warned that doctors of the Law take away the key to knowledge.  They have assumed the term SUMMIT which makes one think of Mount Olympus and the watching world is not really impressed.

The ACU Lectures on the Righteousness of God centers on Romans
.  I feel certain that Bobby Valentine is prophetic when he calls the ACU lectures the Jerusalem of the West.  Jerusalem was a city set on seven hills: the Jebusite High place God gave David to build a tent.  However, Solomon built Him a house but God isn't worshipped in houses built by human hands or by the works of human hands: raising, pointing, clapping or "sanging."
Gal. 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem
which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
Gal. 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Gal. 4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry,
thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
Gal. 4:28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
Gal. 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit,
        even so it is now.
Rev. 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city,
which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
THE MEANING OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Many in the Old Testament were called righteous: a righteous person who does right according to the laws of their country: he DOETH righteousness.  A JUST man who practices justice IS justified based on the rules of his time and place.  Such a person has a STANDING so that if charged with something HE has the right to plead his case without a hired mediator.

Cornelius was a God fearer and worked righteous and therefore WAS righteous:
Acts 10:35 But in every nation
        he that feareth him,  [faith]
        and worketh righteousness,
[without righteous works]
is accepted with him. [is not justified]

Acts 13:26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham,
and whosoever among you feareth God,
to you is the word of this salvation sent.

1 John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you:
he that doeth righteousness is righteous,
OUR FAITH CANNOT MAKE US RIGHTEOUS

The Faith of Jesus Christ is always contrasted with The Law of Moses.
Rom. 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ
        unto all an
d upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

THE FAITH OF CHRIST is not our personal faith: this is always contrasted to THE LAW OF MOSES.

Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is
............ not justified by the works of THE LAW
............ but by THE FAITH of Jesus Christ,
............ even we have believed in Jesus Christ,
............ that we might be justified by THE FAITH of Christ,
............ and not by the works of THE LAW
............ for by the works of THE LAW shall no flesh be justified.

Gal 2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ,
............ we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

Gal. 3:24 Wherefore THE LAW was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Gal. 3:25 But after that FAITH IS COME, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
All of those lying about the "music" terms have changed their thesis: now those who affirm the right to use instruments and agree that the perpetrators are not guilty, can be tolerated: even if in a very early "traditional" service where tradition is used to lie until they "go all the way."

Those who continue to defend their 2,000 year old faith and openly oppose those who try to infiltrate and steal their property are called ANTI-instrumentalists.  Their "cover" has been removed and your church is open for the taking.

However, without having a clue they appeal to Hezekiah's plague stopping animal slaughter as authority to NOW say that God COMMANDS instrumental praise and we must not be disobedient. That is a return to the O.E.Payne etal who taught that PSALLO demands an instrument. That means that they have RETURNED to the schoolmaster who "taught to the tune of a hickory stick" and could "use" your young boy at will.
BY FAITH WE ARE CEREMONIALLY PURE AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO APPEAL TO JESUS CHRIST FOR A HOLY SPIRIT OR A GOOD CONSCIENCE. Many who believed and  wanted to be baptized were sent away by John who told them that EVEN if they believed they would have to REPENT and prove it.
We are purified by THE FAITH of Jesus Christ on the same basis that swine are ceremonially pure.   Not ours, but THE FAITH of Jesus has declared that there are no pure races or impure races.
One who just believes something is assuredly NOT justified.

People who lie about all of the "instrument" passages to sow discord and make a place in the mainstream for that which excites and repulses us like a train wreck CANNOT be righteous: Romans 10 returns us to the exodus to prove that they are imposing the same musical idolatry which invited God to remove grace and abandon them to the worship the heaven stars: all at the Olympus Summit. Paul calls it demon worship and the Church of Christ has NOT given them the right to SUMMIT and plead for idolatry.

Lysias 9.[8]    Well, that I was let off by the Treasury clerks, you now know. But although I consider that merely on the strength of this demonstration I ought to stand cleared of the impeachment, I will put in a yet stronger array both of laws and of other justifications. Now, please, take the law.

If a prisoner has the standing to appeal to the court, they still have to be released. Once a prisoner walks out of jail they are not saved nor safe.  Now, they are bound to walk by the standards of society otherwise they are a free beggar.

One who has FAITH whether Jew or Gentile has the RIGHT to appeal to God for A good conscience or salvation. The SUBJECT is not faith-only but the Jews who DENIED that Gentiles had a right to be saved by baptism.

If I have faith then I am justified and can therefore "call on the Name of the Lord." This is specificially done at the time and place of water baptism.
Acts 22:15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou?
arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins,
calling on the name of the Lord.
We are justified or made righteous by the WORK of Jesus Christ  However, we are saved by His Life as we follow Him to the water where He "fully preached" baptism.

Rom. 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood,
we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Remembering that the Jews were thinking about legal justification or "ceremonial purity" and not about spiritual righteousness:
Thucydides, The Peloponnesian War
Th.1.41 XLI.[1] This then is what Hellenic law entitles us to demand as a right. But we have also advice to offer and claims on your gratitude, which, since there is no danger of our injuring you, as we are not enemies, and since our friendship does not amount to very frequent intercourse, we say ought to be liquidated at the present juncture.

Archidamus [25] To be sure, if we are in a mood not to defend our title to anything, not even if they demand that we abandon Sparta itself, it is idle to be concerned about Messene; but if not one of you would consent to live if torn from the fatherland, then you ought to be of the same mind about that country; for in both cases we can advance the same justifications and the same reasons for our claim.
FAITH justifies because we use it for A STANDING IN COURT to demand what whe have been promised.  The RIGHT does not force you to claim your FREE GIFT which is in baptism which as a TYPE is an INSTEAD of dying for your own sins.

On this occasion the Roman envoys contented themselves with the reply that, while Saguntum was intact, the matter in dispute admitted of pleadings and of a discussion on its merits; but that, that city having been treacherously seized, they had only two alternatives,--either to deliver the persons guilty of the act, and thereby make it clear that they had no share in their crime,
        and that it was done without their consent;
or, if they were not willing to do that, and avowed their complicity in it, to take the consequences.

And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation,
but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. Romans 5:16
This free gift JUSTIFIES all who have faith. Then, they "have the power TO BECOME the sons of God."  The Jews thought that they were the only people on the face of the earth to receive God's gifts.  A Gentile had no rights until they became Jews.  Paul insisted that it was THE FAITH OF CHRIST which we accept which insists that there no "ceremonially impure" people or even animals.

I believe this was such a profound belief that God had to declare that not even animals were IMPURE before Peter would preach to Cornelius, ate with him and touched him by lifting him up.

Musical idolaters (Romans 10) LOST their right to plead: they were UNrighteous.

Those who are justified by faith in the finished work of Christ will NOT be saved unless they plead or request A holy spirit or A good conscience BY the act of obedience in baptism.
ause of faith only.

Our spirits have been translated into a heavenly kingdom and we live in the spirit and walk in the spirit. Especially Paul said that we must worship IN the spirit (a place) as opposed to IN the flesh (where all christianism or religionism takes place today).  Because, OUTSIDE of the spirit you subject yourselves to the consicion, DOGS and all kinds of people howling for a bone.

A person who practices righteousness is righteous. If that person believes that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God and believes that "he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved" then he is justified.  Otherwise he calls Jesus Christ a liar. Salvation is not a punched ticket on the Joy Bus to Heaven.  Saved or safe is when God sets us aside for safe keeping with protection from false teachers. That is in part because one who has been converted receives A holy spirit so they can read black text on white paper. Because our spirits have been translated into a heavenly kingdom that which transpires in this kingdom within us we are saved FROM the crooked generation waged to consume our money, time and devotion by appealing to the flesh:
Acts 7:59 And they stoned Stephen,
        calling upon God,
and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
1Tim. 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust,
avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
1Tim. 6:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
2Tim. 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed:
for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep
that which I have committed unto him against that day.

A saved person has A holy spirit which is enabled to love and hold the Truth of Jesus Christ:

Luke 1:76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

Luke 1:77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,

Soteria (g4991) so-tay-ree'-ah; fem. of a der. of 4990 as (prop. abstr.) noun; rescue or safety (phys. or mor.):- deliver, health, salvation, save, saving.

Aphesis (g859) af'-es-is; from 863; freedom; (fig.) pardon:- deliverance, forgiveness, liberty, remission.

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Mk.1:4
And that

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Ac.2:38

How can you teach that people are "saved" by failure to define words when none of the converts (to performance) would be free of their sins?

1 Pet. 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient,
............ when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah,
............ while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is,

Noah was a "righteous" man in that he did righteousness. He was SAVED in the physical sense because he OBEYED by FAITH.

Soteria (g4991) so-tay-ree'-ah; fem. of a der. of 4990 as (prop. abstr.) noun; rescue or safety (phys. or mor.): - deliver, health, salvation, save, saving.

(not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,
but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Answer ALWAYS means REQUEST. A person who REQUESTS salvation at baptism DOES NOT demand it as a WAGE for works performed OF WHICH they can boast. Therefore, to accuse CHRIST OBEYERS as legalistic is the MARK of a false teacher who DOES NOT have A holy spirit.

Eperotema (g1906) ep-er-o'-tay-mah; from 1905; an inquiry: - answer.
Eperotao

On the other hand, a PLEDGE is something you cannot give: The NIV and the false teachers about baptism are wrong because we have nothing to put in hock.

Acts 2:40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this CROOKED generation.
The Crooked Generation were identified by their skolion music as they got drunk on wine (or ignorance). DECENT men voted the flute-girl to depart to stop the flow of wine.

This specificially means COME OUT OF BABYLON just as Alexander Campbell demanded of anyone who might be a Christian "among the sects."  Jesus demanded that we come out and be a separated people because the massed religionists are false and mercinary.
Jesus accused the waged clergy who twisted Scripture with being hypocrites by pointing to Isaiah and Ezekiel:
COME TO THE SUMMIT
Ezek. 33:30 Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother,
saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.
Ezek. 33:31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh,
and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them:
for with their mouth they shew much love,
but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

He then gives an example of NOTHING: just a mercinary hypocrite:

Ezek. 33:32 And, lo, thou art unto them
        as
a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice,
and can play well on an instrument:
for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
Ezek. 33:33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,)
then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

As always, Paul defines the only role of the assembly
Rom. 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all,
that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
Rom. 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son,
        that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
Rom. 1:10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
Rom. 1:11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
Rom. 1:12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
In verse 16 we must understand righteousness in the context of believers who are then baptized as a separate act.
Rom. 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:
        for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;
to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Rom. 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. Hab 2:4

Just is Caddiyq (h6662) tsad-deek'; from 6663; just: - just, lawful, righteous (man).

A person is RIGHTEOUS or JUST because they LIVE righteously. Ho

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Rom 1:18

The same Paul understood that the preached gospel had a "so what?" The so what was that because of what Jesus did, you can LIVE by faith by imitating him:

Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, 1 Cor 16:25

But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets,
according to the commandment of the everlasting God,
made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: 1 Cor 16:26

And to the Galatians--warning against Moser--

O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you,
          that ye should not
obey the truth, before whose eyes
          Jesus Christ hath been
evidently set forth, crucified among you? Galatians 3:1

Jesus sais "my words are Spirit and Life" (John 6:63). Therefore, the "spirit" or Mind of Christ is delibered by preaching and received by hearing.

This only would I learn of you,
Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law,
or (Received ye the Spirit) by the hearing of faith? Galatians 3:2

They were saved by THE FAITH of JESUS CHRIST when they were baptized into Christ.  No one has the power of a personal FAITH good enough to save them. THE FAITH is the Christian system as opposed to THE LAW of Moses.

WHAT? For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:26
HOW? For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Gal 3:27

The Israelites fell into musical idolatry BECAUSE they refused to let God speak to them directly:

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Rom 1:22
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Rom 1:23

See the story of the Golden Calf: you will find that most people who repudiate baptism which was a TYPE at the Red Sea also fall into the musical idolatry of the pagan trinity.

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Rom 1:24

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. Rom 1:25

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: Rom 1:26

ROMANS 2

Paul, as always, repudiates the Jews who hindered the Gentiles by claiming that they were righteous because of their being chosen by God. People are no different because they think that just believing in Jesus guarantees their safety:

Rom 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

Rom 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life:

Heb.11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God

he is a

Ro.10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

Ro. 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

2 Thess 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

Rom 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

There was no Jew until much later: Abraham was a GENTILE or other than a JEW or of the tribe of Judah. All people had been TAUGHT and by NATURE or natural generation the truth had been spread among the 70 nations.. No one ever hallucinated a LAW of God other than NOMOS whic is the MUSICAL LEGALISM:

Rom 2:12 For as many as

Rom 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God,

James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

He that is an APISTOS or revel SHALL BE DAMNED because he called Jesus a liar who said: "The that believeth AND is baptized SHALL BE saved."

Rom 2:14 For when the Gentiles,

ROMANS 3

It is pretty certain that the summiteers think of The Law of Moses as an obsolete Plan of Salvation? The ONLY discussion in Romans is to disabuse the Jews that one is not justified or ceremonially pure by being circumcised and keeping the Law of Moses. Paul never discusses a One Step plan of salvation by Faith Only.  Moser will not allow baptism to be anything but an action of FAITH but Paul said that it was an act of obedience so that THEN being free from Sin.
Luke 7:29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God,
being baptized with the baptism of John.
Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves,
        being not baptized of him.

John 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him;
but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him,
lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
In Romans it is important to understand that those who were not righteous even under the Old Testament period BECAME unrighteous by their own volition. Righteous people were always obededient.
Rom 3:11 There is NONE that understandeth, there is none that SEEKETH after God.
Rom 3:12 They are all GONE OUT of the way,
        they are together
BECOME unprofitable;
there is none that DOETH good, no, not one.
Why would they be blamed if they did NOT even seek God? The fact is that they  were NOT born sinners but they HAVE GONE out of the way and there is NONE good enough to be predestinated. Paul in Hebrews 11 shows MANY who were justified (not saved) by FAITH because he said:
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him:
for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
No one can SEEK faith: it is the GIFT of God. Yet, how does Augustine, Calvin and Luther say that God GIVES us Faith? He did it by giving us His WORDS in the gospel which includes what is required of us AFTER we receive FAITH BY HEARING THE WORD OF GOD.  But, of the SELF- or LAW- or RACIAL righteous claimed by the Jews, and the Gentiles who did not have the Law have proven BY THEIR FREE WILL that they do not have RIGHTEOUSNESS of MERIT enough to raise them from the dead or FORCE God to add them to His church.

Only to repudiate the proud Jews does Paul say that being under the Law did not prevent THEM from becomming UNRIGHTEOUS.
Rom 3:13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues
they have USED deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
Rom 3:14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
Rom 3:16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
Rom 3:17 And the way of peace have they not known:
Rom 3:18 There is no fear of God before THEIR eyes.
If you follow Harris or follow Moser you will undoubtedly not look where Paul points:
Psa 4:1 THE FOOL hath said in his heart, There is no God.
THEY are corrupt, THEY have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Psa 14:2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men,
to see if there were any that did understand, and SEEK God.

Psa 14:3 They are all GONE aside, they are all together BECOME filthy:
there is none that doeth good,
no, not one.
14:4 Have all the WORKERS of iniquity NO KNOWLEDGE?
        who
eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord
The same Paul has said in Hebrews 11 that there were MANY who sought God by faith.
Rom 3:19 Now we know that what things soever THE LAW saith,
        it
saith to them who are under the law:
that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Rom 3:20 Therefore by the DEEDS of the LAW there shall no flesh be justified in his sight:
        for
by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Rom 3:21 But now the righteousness of God WITHOUT the law is manifested,
being witnessed by the law and the prophets
Rom 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay; but by THE LAW OF FAITH.
Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Rom 3:29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
Rom 3:30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
We are JUSTIFIED by THE FAITH OF CHRIST and not THE LAW OF MOSES but we are SAVED by His Life when we are baptized into Christ.

Baptism is NOT a work of THE LAW OF MOSES, therefore those who believeth AND are baptized SHALL BE saved.

ROMANS 4: KEITH MOSER

Keith Moser Chapter 3:  The Justification of Abraham
"Abraham's justification was, therefore, a typical example. The conclusions reached in the previous chapter must, accordingly, agree with the facts of this case. But it was concluded in the last chapter that salvation was bestowed upon the principle of faith and not upon the principle of works. Can this conclusion be justified by the facts of Abraham's justification? Let us see.Remember, we are now searching for the principle or law of justification. It was not Paul's purpose to prove to the Jews a self-evident fact--namely, that Abraham was not justified by the law of Moses.
Abraham was not saved by faith: he was justified by faith. If it means saved then Genesis 26 says that Abraham was approved because he obeyed God's laws, covenants, decrees and commandments.
"Remember, we are now searching for the principle or law of justification. It was not Paul's purpose to prove to the Jews a self-evident fact--namely, that Abraham was not justified by the law of Moses. This every Jew knew, and for this no Jew contended. Abraham lived, in round numbers, four hundred years before the law.
Now to Abraham were the promises spoken, and to his seed. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many: but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. Now this I say: A covenant confirmed beforehand by God, the law, which came four hundred and thirty years after, doth not disannul, so as to make the promise of none effect. (Gal. 3:16, 17.)
Certainly, then, Paul is not laboring in the fourth chapter of Romans to prove that Abraham was not justified by the law of Moses. If that had been his purpose, he could have reminded the Jews that Abraham lived four hundred years too soon to be thus justified. Paul was proving rather that Abraham was not justified upon the principle of works; and since the law put man upon that principle, the principle of works, the Jews could not, therefore, be justified by the law. Paul was fighting for a principle--a principle that would make room for the atonement of Christ. Only the principle of faith will do this. The principle of works, as we have shown, necessarily excludes the grace of God.
But in Galatians Moser just quoted he did tell them that: the letters were circular and the Jews in Jerusalem understood what the Galatians understood.  Paul is fighting against THE LAW OF MOSES and theology has to make that into a principle. No one is saved by their own works but the objective of faith only is that there is nothing in obedience in baptism that saves.

Abraham in GALATIANS 3
Gal. 3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
Gal. 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of THE LAW, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Gal. 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Gal. 3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
Gal. 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Gal. 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, THE LAW which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
Gal. 3:18 For if the inheritance be of THE LAW, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
Gal. 3:19 Wherefore then serveth THE LAW? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
Paul never speaks of a LAW PRINCIPLE. The statement "he that believeth and is baptized" is a law: it is a statement of cause and effect. If you do not believe that law then you are Apistos, in revolt.

Chapter 6. And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but as of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reckoned for righteousness. Even as David also pronounceth blessing upon the man, unto whom God reckoneth righteousness apart from works. (Rom. 4:3-6.)

Just as Abraham was reckoned righteous, not because of his works, but because of his faith in God, so the sinner is reckoned righteous because of his faith in Christ. To be reckoned righteous is to be justified. To be justified is to be considered not guilty. The merit of the blood of Christ is set to the credit of the believer.

Sin was not imputed before the Law so Abraham was not lost: God recognized him for his practice of right living and social justice.  The doubting Jews understood that they were saved AFTER obedience: their problem was the Gentile's fitness or ceremonial standing to QUALIFY them to be baptized FOR the remission of sins. When the gospel is preached the only important first step is to believe it: if one believes the gospel then the sacrifice of Christ which dispensed with animal sacrifices clears the path.  In the pattern of the temple one who ACCEPTS the sacrifice is WASHED in the laver before they can proceed into the Holy Place which was typical of the Body of Christ or the Church of Christ.

Paul is discussing THE LAW as a way to be righteous. Abraham was not justified by faith-only because God told us differently.  Abraham was not justified by The Law of Moses is to prove to the Jews that people could be justified before and after the Law without circumcision and obeying the Law. Paul never discusses a one step plan of salvation.

ABRAHAM FROM GENESIS

Rom. 4:2 For if Abraham were justified by works
he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

But, Paul is speaking of THE LAW and not obedience. Paul never minimizes obeying the commands of Christ: these are not the commands of The Law of Moses which is Paul's only topic.  He is not speaking of a one step plan of salvation by faith only.

1Cor. 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing,
but the keeping of the commandments of God.
Gal. 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything,
nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

The subject is THE LAW: Moser says that the people understood that Abraham lived before the Law and therefore Paul was not speaking of The Law of Moses.

Rom. 4:13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world,
was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law
but through the righteousness of faith.

Rom. 4:14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
Rom. 4:15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

Rom 4:3 For what saith the scripture?
............ Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

God is NEVER without His LAWS for trees and people. Paul speaks of THE LAW OF MOSES and if you stretch that to deny God the right to LEGISLATE for our faith and practice then Jesus using the word APISTOS calls you a rebel and treacherous. Abraham was JUSTIFIED and not REGENERATED by faith but FAITH is a silly word if you EMPTY it of works or obeying whatever you TRUST.

God picked Abraham because of His GRACE but not at random. Abraham kept God's LAWS by FAITH when he did the WORK. However, this was not WORKS OF THE LAW OF MOSES

HOW WAS ABRHAM JUSTIFIED?

Gen. 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven,
        and will give unto thy seed all these countries;
        and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
Gen. 26:5 Because that Abraham
        obeyed my voice,
        and kept my charge,
        my commandments,
        my statutes,
        and my laws.
Gen. 26:6 And Isaac dwelt in Gerar: [obeyed God's commands]

You see, all people are under some form of Law because God is the Governer of the universe.  No one is considered RIGHTEOUS who does not do that which is RIGHT.  It is true that Abraham obeyed because of his faith, but Abraham did not stop to decide whether DOING SOMETHING with his mind and body might upset God.  We are mortals and God gave us bodies to obey certain commands.  Our faith moves us to act but God does not jump for joy when we BELIEVE that what He promised He will deliver when We obey. God has the power NOT to know or judge our hearts until our body moves in obedience.

Gen. 22:10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
Gen. 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him:
for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
Gen. 22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD,
for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
Gen. 22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven,
        and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
Paul is not speaking of salvation by works versus salvation by faith: the ONLY issue between Paul and the Jews was an attempt to be justified by The Law of Moses. That had been added when Israel rejected The Book of The Covenant of Grace, God turned them over to worship the starry host and gave them a Law to regulate the lawless until they were transported back to Assyria and Babylon to work as slaves where they had once lived by robbing caravans.

Rom 4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
Rom 4:5 But to him that worketh not,
............ but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly,
............ his faith is counted for righteousness.

Rom 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man,
............ unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

Paul is still speaking of THE WORKS of THE LAW OF MOSES. There was nothing in THE LAW which made one righteous but obeying God's righteous demands was what counted.

The story of David's life is a catalog of all of the sins which mankind can commit including adultery and murder. In fact, God calls him, in our language, "Old bloody hands." Too bloody to even build a house which God neither wanted nor needed. Therefore, David is not their example of one who could save himself through the law. Rather, David is the extreme model of God showing grace to one who does not deserve it. Because Paul was the New Testament model of undeserved grace he could identify with David.

Rom 4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Rom 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Nowhere does faith cause the remission of sins or the covering of sins! God does not impute the penalty of THE LAW which did not accept repentance.  David was justified just like all people but the Jews STILL BELIEVED that they were justified by THE LAW because they demanded that the Gentiles be circumcised and obey the Law of Moses.

PAUL WAS OLD TESTAMENT LITERATE AND EXPECTED THE JEWS TO BE. Therefore, Moser begins and ends with Romans but Paul defined the reasons sin was not IMPUTED so that they did not execute him.

ABRAHAM IN HEBREWS 11

Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

PAUL'S REFERENCE TO PSALMS REJECTS FAITH-ONLY

Paul could never use the Psalms as proof that God accepts simple faith as a replacement for honoring God by honoring His Word because the first Psalm begins:

HERE DEFINES THE THEATER OF THE UNRIGHTEOUS IMPOSERS OF MUSIC.

Psa 1:1 BLESSED is the man that
............
walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
............ nor standeth in the way of sinners,
............ nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
3944.  llatsown, law-tsone┤; from 3887; derision:—scornful-ning).

AS OPPOSED TO THE GODLY WHO RESTED, READ AND REHEARSED THE WORD IN SYNAGOGUE.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
............ and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Psa 1:2

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
        that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Psa 1:3

THE REST OF THE RIGHTEOUS

Jer 15:16 Thy words were found,
and I did eat them; and
thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for
I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

THE REALM OF THE MUSICAL MOCKERS

Jer 15:17 I sat
        not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced;
I sat alone because of thy hand:
for thou hast filled me with indignation.

Now, by directly quoting Psalm 32 Paul intended that we look where he pointed so that we might understand what he understood. Part of this Psalm reads noting that He spoke in parables to fool the clergy:

BLESSED is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Psa 32:1

Blessed is the man unto whom
............ the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and
.............in whose spirit there is no guile. [treachery] Psa 32:2

God tives you a PERSONAL spirit or A holy spirit in which there is no treachery.
Jesus said that if you don't believe that you are an
Apistos or an UNbeliever.
That word means that you are
TREACHEROUS.

When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. Psa 32:3
For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. Psa 32:4

I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid.
............ said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord;
............ and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. Psa 32:5

For this shall every one that is godly [even pious Gentiles] pray unto thee in a time
when thou

Psalm 51: 1Have mercy on me, God, according to your lovingkindness. According to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. [2]  Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity. Cleanse me from my sin. [3]  For I know my transgressions. My sin is constantly before me. [4]  Against you, and you only, have I sinned, And done that which is evil in your sight; That you may be proved right when you speak, And justified when you judge. [5]  Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity. In sin my mother conceived me. [6]  Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts. You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. [7]  Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean. Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. [8]  Let me hear joy and gladness, That the bones which you have broken may rejoice. [9]  Hide your face from my sins, And blot out all of my iniquities. [10]  Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. [11]  Don't throw me from your presence, And don't take your holy Spirit from me. [12]  Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Uphold me with a willing spirit. [13]  Then I will teach transgressors your ways. Sinners shall be converted to you.

Hos. 14:2 Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

Moser: And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand unto Abraham, saying, in thee shall all the nations be blessed. So then they that are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one who continueth not in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them. Now that no man is justified by the law before God, is evident: for, The righteous shall live by faith; and the law is not of faith; but, He that doeth them shall live in them. (Gen. 3:8-12.)

That's true: Paul leapfrogs all of the Law of Moses and connects the New Covenant to the promise made to Abraham.  We become the sons of God and of Abraham by FAITH we we are baptized INTO Christ.
God imputed righteousness to David WITHOUT THE LAW OF MOSES but BECAUSE David repented, confessed and God FORGAVE his sins.  That was becaus in [David]whose spirit there is no guile. [treachery]

He did not DELUDE people

We are justified by faith in THE OPERATION OF GOD who raised Jesus Christ. However, SALVATION comes as we are conformed to the IMAGE of Christ.

Moser, "Faith is the only thing that can save," and sinners are saved "when faith has completely manifested itself in leading them to obey the Lord" through baptism as an expression of that faith. Baptism, however, is not what saves. Faith saves as the principle which underlies baptism. When baptism is exalted above faith or placed on the same level, then the message reflects a legalism. "When we view baptism, or anything else," he concluded, "in any light except as a manifestation of faith we are headed toward legalism.

Jesus said that Moser told a lie: he could just as easily have said that we are not saved by FAITH but by the BLOOD of Christ. Then, he could say we are not saved by the BLOOD but by the FAITH of the one who shed His blood.  Then you could say that the Death had NOTHING to do with his work but it was JUST FAITH.

Moser and Harris etal do not HAVE to obey Jesus Christ who said that SALVATION comes after baptism: who, then could say that baptism does not save but is jut faith in action.

Heb. 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
Heb. 5:9 And being made perfect,
        he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Jesus did not die for FAITH ONLY but the blood of Christ is only available to people who OBEY that form of doctrine meaning baptism; only THEN says Paul are you free from sin. Not, Jesus could have sad believe and your sins will be remitted but He did not.

That calls Jesus Christ a liar based on some rejection of authority: Jesus said that one who believes AND is baptism shall be saved.  One who believes and does not take personal action to obey "shall be damned."

Peter connects our request for A good conscience to baptism and the resurrection in Romans 4.

1Pet. 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us
(not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,
but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Answer ALWAYS means REQUEST. A person who REQUESTS salvation at baptism DOES NOT demand it as a WAGE for works performed OF WHICH they can boast. Therefore, to accuse CHRIST OBEYERS as legalistic is the MARK of a false teacher who DOES NOT have A holy spirit.

Eperotema (g1906) ep-er-o'-tay-mah; from 1905; an inquiry: - answer.
Eperotao (g1905) ep-er-o-tah'-o; from 1909 and 2065; to ask for, i.e. inquire, seek: - ask (after, questions), demand, desire, question.

Otherwise, Moser, Harris etal are saying that people are saved WITHOUT repenting, confessing and REQUESTING God to cleanse their personal spirit.

Matt. 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Moser is flat wrong because he simply "proof texts" like Harris. If he puts too much emphasis on the ACT that is his problem.

"In 1933 R. L. Whiteside began a study of Romans, later published as a commentary, as a response to Moser's The Way of Salvation. Whiteside was amazed that any brother could write as Moser did, for "if a universalist or an ultra-Calvinist had penned such words, we would not be surprised."

And Moser didn't last very long.

Baptism is not just "faith in action." Baptism is a consious act on the part of the believer where they expose themselves to a mystery we do not grasp. The Bythus or the deep as the eternal enemy of God must be confronted: we must walk through the valley of the shadow of death to get on the other side.  Moses had faith: He said "stand still and see the salvation of the Lord." But the Lord said, "stop whining: lift up your arm and march into the jaw of death."

Luke 7:29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. John 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him;
Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
John 12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

Of people who already believed, Peter told them what Jesus told him to preach including baptism as a condition of salvation in addition to faith.  Faith is putting trust in some one: baptism is OBEYING what you believe.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ   Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people
for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. [were being saved]
While Moser, Harris etal may be fans of Calvin they assuredly did not read the REAL Calvin but probably from "scholarly" text books. No one denies that "our hearts are sprinkled from AN impure conscience WHEN our bodies are washed with water." No one believes that the power is in the water: Paul says that the power is OBTAINED in obedient faith.  The power is in the "million dollar check" which we cannot earn: the receiving of that powers is available only by out obedience to the condition and cash the check.   Moser etal denies that God works through external means and one wonders how the phyrisal body, the physical suffering and the shedding of blood as EXTERNAL has any value. Calvin wrote looking at both sides--back and forth. Whatever Jesus has FINISHED is not ours until we accept it, apprehend it and confess it.  Calvin's Institute 4-15 on baptism:

It will, perhaps, be objected, Why did Ananias say to Paul that he washed away his sins by baptism, (Acts 22: 1-3,) if sins are not washed away by the power of baptism?

I answer, we are said to receive, procure, and obtain, whatever according to the perception of our faith is exhibited to us by the Lord, whether he then attests it for the first time, or gives additional confirmation to what he had previously attested.

All then that Ananias meant to say was, Be baptised, Paul, that you may be assured that your sins are forgiven you
In
baptism, the Lord promises forgiveness of sins: receive it, and be secure.
I have no intention however, to detract from the
power of baptism. I would only

add to the sign the substance and reality,
inasmuch as God
works by external means.

But from this sacrament, as from all others, we gain nothing, .unless in so far as we receive in faith If faith is wanting, it will be an evidence of our ingratitude by which we are proved guilty before God, for not believing the promise there given.

In so far as it is a sign of our confession,
........... we ought thereby to testify that we confide in the mercy of God,
........... and are pure, through the forgiveness of sins which Christ Jesus has procured for us;

that we have entered into the Church of God, that with one consent of faith and love we may live in concord with all believers. This last was Paul's meaning, when he said that "by one Spirit are we all baptised into one body," (1 Cor. 12: 13.)

John Calvin is speaking of the nature of our FLESH which is opposed to our SPIRIT.  He said that baptism CONTRIBUTES to our faith: that is, it is something in ADDITION to faith and the simple understanding of words demands.

Luke 12:8 Also I say unto you,
Whosoever shall confess me before men,
him shall the Son of man also
confess before the angels of God
Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized

shall be saved;
Luke 12:9 But
he that denieth me before men
shall be denied before the angels of God.
but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Apistos means "to not comply."
John 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him
Luke 7:29 And all the people that heard him,
     and the publicans,
justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John
but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

John 12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers
rejected the counsel of God against themselves,
        being not baptized of him.

Therefore, to define every act as just FAITH repudiates the revealed truth.

Why is faith more magical than baptism: Alexander Campbell asked that. Moser is being Calvinistic because this leads back to saying that only God saves and FAITH is a gift.  Otherwise, if faith comes by hearing then the body has to engage itself in some kind of expenditure of energy.

However, Augustine repudiated the view that FAITH is more magical than OBEDIENCE.

"Such a position, indeed, is absurd (for what is believing but consenting to the truth of what is said? and this consent is certainly voluntary): faith, therefore, is in our own power.

But, as the apostle says: "There is no power but comes from God," what reason then is there why it may not be said to us even of this: "What hast thou which thou hast not received?" -for it is God who gave us even to believe.

Nowhere, however, in Holy Scripture do we find such an assertion as,
     "There is no volition
but comes from God.
And rightly is it not so written,
because it is not true:
other wise God would be the
author even of sins (which Heaven forbid!), if there were no volition except what comes from Him; inasmuch as an evil volition alone is already a sin, even if the effect be wanting,-in other words, if it has not ability.

You have to have faith but then you must diligently seek him: you cannot find Him by reading the works of other theologians.

Heb. 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him:
for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

And if a person has not reached the STATUS of the faith of a Moser or a Harris does that mean that the ONLY condition placed on baptism as a confession that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God does not mean what it says. A person is made a student by preaching the gospel, baptizing and then teaching what Jesus said.  If Moser is right should one REPENT and then do all of the hard work to get a more perfect faith to validate their baptism?

ROMANS 5

We are susceptible to the gospel or justified by the blood of Christ. However, we are saved by being IN Christ. Faith comes only by being willing to hear: why shouln't Moser say that hearing would be a work?

Logizomai (g3049) log-id'-zom-ahee; mid. from 3056; to take an inventory, i.e. estimate (lit. or fig.): - conclude, (ac-) count (of), / despise, esteem, impute, lay, number, reason, reckon, suppose, think (on).

God did not keep an account book.  Both Jew and Gentile were justified by the work of Christ.  Because of that those who believe "have the power to become the sons of God." Faith does not make them into children: Paul said that happens when we are baptized into Christ (Gal 3:27).

Much more then, being now justified by his blood,
we
shall be saved from wrath through him. Rom 5:9

We are saved by FAITH when we are BAPTIZED to put on Christ (Gal 3:27)

Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies,
>......... we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son,
........... much more, being reconciled,
> >..... we shall be saved by his life.

Rom 5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
........... by whom we have now received the atonement

Moser says that "baptism does not save" Jesus said:

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Thats the fact: one does not have to reach a PERFECTED STATE OF FAITH to become a student of the Word.  ALL of the evidence says that baptism is a SAVING ACT because Jesus put that power in baptism and it is our ACT OF OBEDIENCE without which there is no remission of sins.  This was the exact view of Martin Luther.
Thesis from Olympus: Righteousness is both a gift that God gives us.

That's true:
everything is a gift of God but never without conditions:
Eccl. 3:13 And also that every man should eat and drink,
and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
Eccl. 5:19 Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth,
and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion,
and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her,
If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee,
Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him,
and he would have given thee living water.

Only those who were baptized A holy spirit or A good conscience which made them able to hold onto the Word of God in their now purified spirit as God's only Temple.
EPHESIANS 2

Paul never contradicts himself: in all of the "salvation BY grace THROUGH faith" Paul shows that the MEANS is baptism because that is what Jesus Christ commanded.
Moser p.34. Salvation by faith demands that it have the significance of m reliance. The natureof the atonement is the basis of this demand; for what can be done with the atonement except to trust it for salvation or  reject it? Christ died to save, not simply to have the right to prescribe certain actsof obedience which save. He does have the right to name the condition of salvation, but he certainly is able to know what meaning these conditions may have and not make voice his death. He would not shed his blood to save man and then transfer the efficacy to save to acts of obedience. This would change the divine formulation of salvation "by grace through faith" to "by law through works."
The Divine formula was "he that believeth AND is baptized SHAL BE Saved." The word PISTIS to be effective INCLUDES "to comply."

"The man had an evil heart and believed that he had every right to shoot the preacher.  He shot the preacher and they put him in the electric chair." Did they burn him because he had an evil heart? Of course, not only when our spirits move us to action are we subject to the law.
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil,
        neither tempteth he any man:
James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:
and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
James 1:16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

Neither does God infuse us with faith (the natural Moser conclusion) nor save us just because our mind believed what it heard.
We should not tell God what He can and cannot do: that would be rebellion.  God transferred His power into "a body prepared for me" made of 85% water.
Phil 2:5 Your attitude [mind] should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus Christ,
Phil 2:6 who, though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God,
Phil 2:7 but laid aside his mighty power and glory, taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men.

The MIND that was in Christ who WAS God is the word:

MInd is: G5426 phroneo fron-eh'-o From G5424 ; to exercise the mind, that is, entertain or have a sentiment or opinion; by implication to be (mentally) disposed (more or less earnestly in a certain direction); intensively to interest oneself in (with concern or obedience):set the affection on, (be) care (-ful), (be like-, + be of

For US Paul equated the MIND of Christ to the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 2).

An interesting tid bit perhaps part of the SIGN OF JONAH?

2 Chr 35:22 But Josiah refused to turn back. Instead he led his army into the battle at the valley of Megiddo. (He laid aside his royal robes so that the enemy wouldn't recognize him.) Josiah refused to believe that Neco's message was from God.

Jona.3:6 For when the king of Nineveh heard what Jonah was saying,
.......... he stepped down from his throne,
.......... laid aside his royal robes,
.......... put on sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

Moser cherry picks and misses Ephesians 1 and the first part of Ephesians 2 and fails to read in context.

Eph. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Just as The Lord's Supper is the "showing act" of the death of Christ, baptism down through time shows HOW Jesus chose to save peope BY grace THROUHG faith when we obey that FORM or of the PROTO or protos gospel. Paul tells the same story in all of his teaching.  Certainly no one believes that the power is in the water but you are forced to believe that Jesus made the power available ONLY to those who obey what they have faith in.
THE EPHESIANS COLOSSIAN PARALLEL
Salvation BY grace THROUGH faith: HOW? Salvation BY grace THROUGH faith: HOW?
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the LUSTS of our FLESH, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of WRATH, even as others. Ephesians 2: 3
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Col 2:11
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Ephesians 2: 4
Buried with him in BAPTISM, wherein also

And hath RAISED us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places IN Christ Jesus: Ephesians 2:6

ye are RISEN with him through the faith of the OPERATION of God, who hath raised him from the dead. Col.2:12

Even when we were dead in sins, hath "QUICKENED" (regenerated) us together WITH Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Ephesians 2:5
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Col 2:13

In the Flood type Noah did not save his family and condemn the world BY his faith: it was by his actions that the people were aware of his actions:

Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet,
            moved with fear,
            prepared an ark to the saving of his house;

by the which he condemned the world,

and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
THE EPHESIANS ROMANS PARALLEL

As the context proves that Baptism is the WAY that Jesus Christ CHOOSE to save BY grace THROUGH faith for all ages, Romans 6 proves that it is EXACTLY that He transferred His work to a TYPE which means "a pattern capable of being imitated."  Paul said that for those with faith it was ONLY after obedience did Jesus put the remission of sins. Jesus has the RIGHT to define the HOW we get access to His finished work.  If someone sent Moser a check for a million dollars and he had faith in it, he would die poor if he REPUDIATED the power the Giver vested in a small piece of paper.
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the LUSTS of our FLESH, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of WRATH, even as others. Ephesians 2: 3
God forbid. How shall we, that are DEAD TO SIN to sin, live any longer therein? Rom 6:2

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Rom 6:

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Ephesians 2: 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death:
Even when we were dead in sins, hath "QUICKENED" (regenerated) us together WITH Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Ephesians 2:5 that LIKE AS Christ was RAISED up from the dead by the glory of the Father,
And hath RAISED us up together, and
even so we also should walk in newness of LIFE. Rom 6:4
made us sit together in heavenly places IN Christ Jesus: Ephesians 2:6
Only those who already believed were told to repent AND be baptism for (in order to) the remission of sins. Only those being saved were added to the Church of Christ.  Remission of sins, the gift of A holy spirit and being added to the church are all CONDITIONAL on obeying Jesus who showed the PATTERN capable of being obeyed.
For if we have been planted together in the likeness (Form) of his death,

we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Rom 6:5

Eph. 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Eph. 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph. 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Eph. 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph. 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Rom. 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Rom. 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

ROMANS 6

Moser Chapter 5.

Moser says that John's baptism just meant REPENTANCE.  However, the prophecy says:

Mal 3:1 BEHOLD, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.

Mal 3:2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a REFINERS FIRE, and like FULLERS SOAP:

Mal 3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

Mal 3:4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.

Mal 3:5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts.

John clearly baptized FOR or in order to the remission of sins,  They had to REPENT and prove it before they were eligible to be baptized IN ORDER that their sins be forgiven.

Matt 3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

Matt 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Matt 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

Those baptized by John came CONFESSING their sins.  John demanded that those he knew must REPENT and then come to be baptized FOR the remission of sins.  Baptism does not mean Repentance it means to OBEY that form of what Jesus did and only THEN after they were resurrected were they FREE FROM SIN.

Next, K.C.Moser tries to make Christian baptism just mean the same thing.
A part of the final message of Jesus to his disciples was:
Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matt. 28:19.)

What, now, does Christian baptism signify? As to what constitutes baptism we have already seen. Baptism, as to the act, is the same under Christ as anywhere else. Its meaning, however, may not always be the same. Under John we found that baptism, by divine arrangement, meant repentance. Does it signify repentance under Christ? If so, what else?

The order was:

Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached
in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you
in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Following the latter day Baptists Moser wants to make baptism into a SYMBOL instead of a Divine means.  The form or TUPOS was "a pattern capable of being imitated."  A type also means INSTEAD OF: ultimate grace is that we can be baptized INSTEAD OF hanging on the cross for our own sins.
Moser: Now, under Christ it is the work of baptism to represent this change of mind toward sin and righteousness. Baptism cannot effect this change, but it can and does represent or symbolize it. And thus does Paul speak of it:
Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. (Rom. 6:3, 4.)
Under Christ, then, baptism is connected with repentance as a symbol of it. In this case it must share with repentance its meaning. Hence, Paul could find in baptism a reason for the Roman Christians' not continuing in sin. If baptism does not have the significance of repentance, why did Paul represent it as the dividing line between a life of sin and a life of righteousness?
A pig which is washed can return to the wallow. A person who has been made free of sin BECAUSE of baptism does not inherit the righteousness of CHRIST making it impossible to sin again. If one sins then the order is to REPENT and PRAY.  Pray does not mean repent and Baptism does not mean repent.  As the Ark was a PATTERN of Noah who PREPARED THE ARK to the saving of His family because that was God's means, Peter said;
1Pet. 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father,
        through sanctification of the Spirit,
unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:
Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
1 Pet. 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us
(not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,
but the [request for] a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou?
        arise, and be baptized,
        and wash away thy sins,
calling on the name of the Lord.

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done,
but according to his mercy he saved us,
by the washing of regeneration, [baptized]
and renewing of the Holy Ghost; [gift of A holy spirit]
Heb. 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience,
and our bodies washed with pure water
Peter says that the gift of A holy spirit comes AFTER baptism: he now says that A good conscience comes AFTER baptism which is not repentance but "calling on the name of the Lord."

However, those who believed were to repent AND be baptized IN ORDER that their sins be remitted.  While to Moser it might seem like a miracle, Paul said that whatever happened before:

But God be thanked,
..........that ye were the servants of sin,
..........but ye have obeyed from the heart
..........that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Ro.6:17

Being THEN made free from sin,
..........ye became the servants of righteousness. Rom 6:18
Everyone but Moser believed that Baptism is IN ORDER for the remission of sins. The reason it cleanses the human spirit making it into A holy spirit is OBEDIENCE. That is the word Moser will not tolerate. Why does God not have the right to reserve REMISSION OF SINS for those who obey His direct command without calling Him a legalist.

Everyone--even swine--are declared PURE or "not ceremonially impure" by THE FAITH of Jesus Christ as opposed to THE LAW OF MOSES.  However, only those who are justified by the Work of Christ are saved by OBEYING the same Christ Who earned the right to tell you how to be SAVED or have your sins remitted. No one ever has their sins remitted by FAITH ONLY.

Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Baptism speak of DEATH and BURIAL: you do not bury people ALREADY resurrected.
People who are dead in trespasses and sins are dead in their OWN sins. Being alienated from God does not mean UNCONSIOUS.
God forbid. How shall we, that are DEAD TO SIN to sin, live any longer therein? Rom 6:2

Know ye not, that so many of us
..........as were
baptized into Jesus Christ
..........were baptized into his death? Rom 6:3

Jesus was dead when he went into the tomb.
He came OUT of the tomb alive.
Therefore in this type or "pattern meant to be imitated" Jesus was not alive before he was buried.

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death:
that LIKE AS Christ was RAISED up from the dead by the glory of the Father,
even so we also should walk in newness of LIFE. Rom 6:4

This "baptism" is a LIKENESS of Jesus being PLANTED into the tomb. We are not baptized INTO the holy spirit.

For if we have been planted together in the likeness (Form) of his death,
we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Rom 6:5

Baptism of the Spirit was a sign of judgment against the Jews whom John identified as a generation of vipers: Jesus transferred His Spirit or Mind in a face-to-face teaching of WORDS to his selected Apostles.

They gave us the Word as Spirit and Life because Paul said that he MINISTERED the Spirit by PREACHING.

Baptism of Spirit and fire was a promise and a threat: it is not something you can obey:
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey,
..........his servants ye are to whom ye obey;
..........whether of sin unto death,
..........or of obedience unto righteousness? Rom 6:16

But God be thanked,
..........that ye were the servants of sin,
..........but ye have obeyed from the heart
..........that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Ro.6:17

Being THEN made free from sin,
..........ye became the servants of righteousness. Rom 6:18

No one is said to have sins remitted other than when they OBEY that form or pattern which can be IMITATED.

ACU: The dominate refrain "the Righteousness of God" is a central theological concept.  Righteousness is both a gift that God gives us and a way of life that God enables us to live.  In this definitive work, Paul joins God in uniting disparate races and religions to worship the one God expressed as Jesus.   The Jew and Gentile controversy represents the difficulty of God's people grasping the worldwide mission of God.

The Jews and Gentiles mostly went their separate ways: Paul did not compromise a jot or tittle to the Jews to be "ecumenical" a god-like view of the new scholars.  Jews became 100% Christians.  Of the DIVERSITY in Rome, Paul silenced those diversities and defined ekklesia or synagogue as using one mind and one mouth to speak that which was written: that is what you do in Bible School which is not a worship center.

ROMANS 8

Paul's ONLY writing was about about the LAW, and about PREDESTINATION has to do with a very small remnant of the whole Jewish nation.  I believe that remnant consisted of the 120 who remained with Jesus to the end. With 12 Apostles that meant 10 out of every tribe of what had been several million.  This restoration movement is never any but the small and despised of men.
Jer. 3:14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you:
and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
Jer. 3:15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart,
which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
The exception is in Romans 8:2
Rom. 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in [en] Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the "s"pirit.
Gal. 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into [eis] Christ have put on Christ.
Acts 2:38 repent AND be baptized for (eis) the remission of sins and gift of A holy spirit
Walk is: 4043.  peripateo, per-ee-pat-eh┤-o; from 4012 and 3961; to tread all around, i.e. walk at large (especially as proof of ability); figuratively, to live, deport oneself, follow (as a companion or votary): go, be occupied with, walk (about)

Rom. 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Rom. 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh,
God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
Rom. 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom. 8:5 For they that are after the flesh
        do mind the things of the flesh;
but they that are after the spirit [do mind] the things of the Spirit.
Rom. 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Rom. 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Rom. 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
No one is predestinated which is the real basis of salvation by FAITH ONLY. The next step is that you MUST then teach that God GIVES you faith
Rom. 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to his purpose.  [PROthesis, his PLAN]

2821.
klesis, klay┤-sis; from a shorter form of 2564; an invitation (figuratively)

Most of the native Jews REJECTED the invitation.  Baptism is part of God's PREdestinated purpose or counsel.

Luke 7:29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans,
justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers
rejected the counsel of God against themselves,
        being not baptized of him.
Rom. 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, [He knew the Jews BEFORE]
he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,
that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

This does not speak of God having the ability to know what people woud do: God knew the JEWS beforehand and they are the ONLY subject here. Paul is not speaking of rebel Gentiles.
4267.  proginosko, prog-in-oce┤-ko; from 4253 and 1097; to know beforehand,
God knew the JEWS before hand.

And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob,
       [
1] and to restore the preserved of Israel:
       [
2] I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles,
       [
3] that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. Isa 49:6
Thus saith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee:
........ .[1] and I will preserve thee,
........ .[2] and give thee for a covenant of the people,
........ .[3] to establish the earth, to cause to
................inherit the desolate heritages; Isa 49:8
Rom. 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called:
and whom he called, them he also justified:
and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Predestinate means to "markout a boundry His counsel is His boundary.  Faith only is not the boundary.

John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
John 1:12 But as many as received him,
to them gave he power to become the sons of God,
even to them that believe on his name:

Power just means the capacity TO BECOME.   Being justified does not mean that we are saved.

Rom. 5:9 Much more then,
being now justified by his blood,

we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Rom. 5:10 For if, when we were enemies,
     we were reconciled to God
by the death of his Son,
     much more, being reconciled,
we shall be saved by his life.
WHOM did God KNOW BEFORE? Assuredly no one living today.

Rom. 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid.
For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
Rom. 11:2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew.
Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias?
how he maketh intercession to God against ISRAEL, saying,
 Rom. 11:3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars;
and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
Rom. 11:4 But what saith the answer of God unto him?
I have reserved to myself seven thousand men,
who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
ROMANS 10: the fall from grace beyond redemption.

Those promoting musical idolatry have fallen from grace: Romans 10 and 1 Corinthians 10 identify the musical idolatry at Mount Sinai which is the prototypical fall from grace MARKED by the sounds of musical instruments. Leroy Garrett, Randy Harris, Chris Seidman, Rubel Shelly and Jeff Walling and probably all "allowed" to rise to the summit have denounced the non-instrumental principle which the Disciples of Christ introduced as an instrumental sect.
K.C.Moser. Because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved: for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Rom. 10:9, 10.) p.78

Hence, with Paul, confession is comprehended in faith. Note that in the above passage both confession and faith are named as conditions of salvation. Then immediately each is named as a condition reaching salvation, apparently as though the other were unnecessary. Faith is said to be "unto righteousness." This is equivalent to saying that faith reaches salvation. p.79
Moser missed the point that Paul cycles through the 5-Step-Plan in a progressive way: faith comes from hearing but how can faith be INCLUDED in hearing. Paul clearly shows that there are natural, rational steps by which a person calls on the name of the Lord in baptism to "wash away thy sins."  Faith leads to baptism but to say that baptism IS therefore JUST FAITH is nonsense.
Faith is said to be "unto righteousness." This is equivalent to saying that faith reaches salvation. (The idea that "unto righteousness" means only in the direction of, but not attaining, righteousness is unfounded and would make void the argument of the apostle. If "unto righteousness" means that righteousness is approached, but not reached, then "unto the remission of . . . sins" in Acts 2:38 signifies that remission of sin is only approached, but not reached. This point will have special attention later.) Confession is "unto salvation"--that is, confession saves. Moffatt translates Rom. 9:10 thus:
For with his heart man believes and is justified, with his mouth he confesses and is saved.

To be justified is to be saved. Hence, the two expressions are equivalent. Is man, therefore, saved twice?

Unto, also is a progressive process: you turn and begin to walk in the Way of the Lord. You continue until you ENTER into Salvation.  Salvation comes as a result of repentance but salvation DOES NOT MEAN salvation. Salvation is a process or DISCIPLINE just as a disciples grows to perfection within a SAFE environment.

That is a fundamental and fatal error: Justification means that a person practices justice.  It means that the Gentiles were acceptated by God by THE FAITH of Jesus Christ Wh declared Gentiles and pigs NOT unclean.
Acts 10:34  Then Peter opened his mouth, and said,
Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
Acts 10:35 But in every nation
        he that feareth him,
        and
        worketh righteousness,
                is accepted with him.

Contrary to Moser, worketh righteousness DOES NOT MEAN feareth God.
  1. Cornelius feared God and worked righteousness as a Gentile and was acceptable
  2. Peter preached what HE MUST DO TO BE SAVED.
  3. Peter baptized Cornelius after which he was free of sin.
The promise of the SEED for all nations was, according to God, because Abraham was righteous because:

Gen. 26:5 Because that Abraham
  1.    obeyed my voice,
  2.    and kept my charge,
  3.    my commandments,
  4.    my statutes,
  5.    and my laws.
Abraham was justified EACH time God asked him to do it and Abraham obeyed the order.  If he obeyed 9 times and then refused the 10th time then he would not be justified for THAT command.
Next, the word EIS means toward or into but never because of. The concept of salvation BY grace THROUGH faith means a way or "on the road" eisihodos but NOT into until baptism.
Eis I. OF PLACE, the commonest usage, eis hala into or to the sea. IV. to express RELATION, to or towards, to go to a place and be there,

Aristophanes, Clouds: The muses or clouds by the entrance:
Soc. For you do not know, by Jupiter! that these feed very many sophists, Thurian soothsayers, practisers of medicine, lazy-long-haired-onyx-ring-wearers, song-twisters for the cyclic dances, and meteorological quacks. They feed idle people who do nothing, because such men celebrate them in verse.
Mantis. Of Apollo, Pythian priestess. Mantikos techne 2.craft, cunning, in bad sens, of a soothsayer, he makes this his trade,

Rev. 18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived
.
Strep. For this reason, then, they introduced into their verses the dreadful impetuosity of the moist, whirling-bright clouds; and the curls of hundred-headed Typho; and the hard-blowing tempests; and then aerial, moist; crooked-clawed birds, floating in air and the showers of rain from dewy Clouds. And then, in return for these, they swallow slices of great, fine mullets, and bird's-flesh of thrushes.

The Jews believed in faith-only: if they were Jews they were saved.  Paul proves that they fell into musical idolatry and God "turned them over to worship the starry host."

Romans 10:1 BRETHREN, my hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

Romans 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God,
........... but not according to knowledge.

Rom. 10:3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness,
and going about to establish their own righteousness,
have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God
.

The Righteousness of God
came through The Book of the Covenant which had no kings, no clergy and no mandatory sacrifices.  They were disobedient to THOSE LAWS and the result was musical idolatry.

THE LAW of Moses was imposed but Christ introduced THE FAITH.  "To everyone that believeth" is not faith-only but that the Gentiles had a perfect right to "call upon the Lord" because the Lord gave them that right: no calling, no salvation.

Rom. 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Rom. 10:5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

God gave them The Book of The Covenant of Grace. They rose up in musical idolatry. God gave them The Book of The Law as punishment.

The fatal sin which lost grace was musical idolatry:

Rom. 10:6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise,
Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
Rom. 10:7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
Music in Egypt
The Mount Sinai Idolatry
Testimony of later writers that they were not saved but idolaters.
And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 1 Cor. 10:3
And did all
drink the same spiritual drink:
for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and
that Rock was Christ. 1 Cor. 10:4
But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 1 Cor. 10:5
Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 1 Cor. 10:6

Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 1 Cor. 10:7

"The triumphal hymn of Moses had unquestionably a religious character about it; but the employment of music in religious services, though idolatrous, is more distinctly marked in the festivities which attended the erection of the golden calf." (Smith's Bible Dictionary, Music, p. 589).

"And the people celebrated this feast with burnt-offerings and thank-offerings, with eating and drinking, i.e. with sacrificial meals and sports, or with loud rejoicing, shouting, antiphonal songs, and dances, in the same manner in which the Egyptians celebrated their feast of Apis (Herod. 2, 60, and 3, 27)." (Keil and Delitzsch, Vol. II, p. 222).

And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting (the play at Mount Sinai sport or entertain) themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 2 Pe.2:13

"We know that all of the Israelites brought Egyptian gods and practices with them and it is not far-fetched to think that Miriam, who had not yet been exposed to the Covenant, was part of the consciousness-altering rhythms and which was part of a priestly myth-play brought to destructive consummation at Mount Sinai as the golden calf was called back into action.

This "rising up to play" involved eating, drinking, nakedness and musical worship. The goddess, Hathor, is the best candidate for the Mother Goddess of the Mount Sinai idolatry. Here priestessess or prophetesses were highly trained with musical instruments, cultic songs and be able to join in the religious dance.

"They sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. They practiced rites in which they made themselves naked, perhaps similar to those which were carried out by naked Babylonian priests." (Woodward, p. 158).

"Not to be overlooked here is the accompaniment of music and dancing which, with the character of the ensuing phenomena, makes the diagnosis (of idolatry) certain." (Schaff-Herzog, Ecstasy, p. 71).

"Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, 'The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to dance (play)'" (1 Cor. 10:7).

What is the purpose driving Paul? Because the Israel believed in Faith-Only they rejected the 10 commandments and the 70 laws by which people could live as under the Abrahamic Covenant.  Under those laws, Abraham was justified (not saved) because he obeyed God's righteous laws.

Rom. 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek:
for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Rom. 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

This does not teach salvation by calling, but ALL people are called out.
Prov. 1:28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer;
they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
Prov. 1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
Prov. 1:30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
Zeph. 3:9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language,
that they may all call upon the name of the LORD,
to serve him with one consent
If you can repent without believing why can't you call upon the Name of the Lord without faith?
Rom. 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

The same Paul was told how to call upon the name of the Lord
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized,
        and wash away thy sins
, calling on the name of the Lord.
1Pet. 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer [Calling upon or requesting] of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Peter says that baptism SAVES us and Jesus informed Paul that baptism WASHES AWAY SINS. Who is Moser or Harris etal to say that Paul and Peter were liars because they have developed some theological method of exegesis which is outlawed as "private interpretation."

Being utterly ignorant of history and presuming to mount up to Olympus causes them to repeat history.

LOOK AGAIN AT WHERE FAITH-ONY CAUSED ISRAEL TO LOSE GOD'S GRACE

Ephraim Syrus On Our Lord.

18. But when their heathenism from being inward became open, then Moses also from being hidden openly appeared; that he might openly punish those whose heathenism had revelled beneath the holy cloud which had overshadowed them.

But God removed the Shepherd of the flock from it for forty days, that the flock might show that its trust was fixed upon the calf. And he was there in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him. Mark 1:13

While God was feeding the flock with all delights, it chose for itself as its Shepherd the calf, which was not able even to eat. Moses who kept them in awe was removed from them, that the idolatry might cry aloud in their mouths, which the restraint of Moses had kept down in their hearts. For they cried: Make us gods, to go before us.

19. But when Moses came down, he saw their heathenism revelling in the wide plain with drums and cymbals.
Speedily, he put their madness to shame by means of the Levites and drawn swords.
So likewise here, our Lord concealed His knowledge for a little when the sinful woman approached Him, that the Pharisee might form into shape his thought,
as his
fathers had shaped the pernicious calf.

ROMANS 11

Psalm 41 especially in the Dead Sea Version spells out how Judas as the "familiar friend" would try to triumph over Jesus: this was the same "vocal and instrumental rejoicing" outlawed for the church in the wilderness.   They would try to defeat Jesus with the same loud speaking and vocal and instrumental "noise" which blinded Israel. See Psalm 41

Contrary to the Romans 9-11 "sermon" the Jews were  NEVER predestinated to be SAVED in heaven: Rather, God's PRE-purpose for them was to be conformed to the image of Christ. Because MOST repudiated Christ we know that they were not PRECONTROLLED to believe.

I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. Rom 11:1

God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. [knew before] Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, Rom 11:2

G4267 proginosko prog-in-oce'-ko From G4253 and G1097 ; to know beforehand, that is, foresee:--oreknow (ordain), know (before).

1Tim. 5:24 Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
1Tim. 5:25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. Rom 11:3

God did not reserve or elect the seven thousand by random choice to prove that He was God and they were not. Rather, God reserves or elects those who have chosen to obey His will.

But what saith the answer of God unto him?
I have reserved to myself seven thousand men,
who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baa
l. Rom 11:4

To be consistent the REMNATE even when Christ came were those who OBEYED the Will of God: none were elected but those who DID NOT bow to Baal.

Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. Rom 11:5

They were not elected BY GRACE but they were part of the ELECTION based on GRACE as opposed to those who were part of THE LAW of works.

Paul often contrasts THE FAITH with THE LAW or FAITH with WORKS. In Romans 9-11 he is disabusing the Jews of the heresy that they were PREDESTINATED or ELECTED and could not be lost.

This means that God HAS NEVER cast off anyone who has not CAST THEMSELVES of. That excluded infants.

And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. Rom 11:6

In the NEXT verse Paul will show that those who trusted WORKS were the Israelites who were not SPIRITUAL. They had not obtained salvation.  God removed his Grace from most of the Jews because of THEIR OWN WORKS.  The elect were the elect BECAUSE they had not bowed to Baal.

What then?
...... Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for;
...... but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded Rom 11:7

(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. Rom 11:8

Now, look at Isaiah 29 which with other passages PROVES that the Jews were blinded and made deaf because they rejected God and sought guidance from superstitious music and other methods of "enchanting."

ISRAEL as a nation ceased to be the ELECTION. However, individuals were a tiny remnant because they WALKED by the FAITH that they believed from the revealed Word of God.

ROMANS 12

Worship in the spirit is a PLACE in contrast to Zion or Mount Gerezim.  Paul warned that worship must be in the spirit in contrast to in the flesh because the DOGS or cynics or homosexuals identified by their "old style praise singing" were out to eat you up lke "wolves." To worship IN the spirit you have to crucify the flesh.

When God is in His holy temple we must be silent before Him.  That is why the word SPEAK is defined as the opposite of poetry or music and that includes rhetoric or performance preaching. The sound of the trumpet at Mount Sinai signalled that the people WOULD NOT be transformed by the Word of God. Later, they turned to musical idolatry and God turned them over to worship the starry host. That was to worship like the nations (pagans).
Heb. 12:26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying,
Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
Heb. 12:27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken,
as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
Heb. 12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved,
let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
Heb. 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Those who disquiet our own spirits by music constitute the SHAKING and Isaiah 30 proves that "hell" was prepared so that God could drive His enemies there to the beat of wind, string and percussion instruments. God will not transform you until you sit down and shut up as the Spirit  of Christ directly commanded in Numbers 10 for the "church in the wilderness."

G2378 thusia thoo-see'-ah From G2380 ; sacrifice (the act or the victim, literally or figuratively):--sacrifice G2380 thu  thoo'-o A primary verb; properly to rush (breathe hard, blow, smoke), that is, (by implication) to sacrifice (properly by fire, but generally); by extension to immolate (slaughter for any purpose):--kill, (do) sacrifice, slay.

Paul in the spirit

And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ. Acts 18:5

But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter (body); whose praise is not of men, but of God. Romans 2:29

Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. Phil 3:2

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Phil 3:3

John in the spirit on the lord's day

I was in the Spirit on the Lords day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Revelation 1:10

"As of" shows that John is using symbolic language: the language of parable, vision, etc.

"You are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. This expresses states and conditions of the soul vastly different. All the saints have flesh and spirit in them; but to be in the flesh and to be in the Spirit are contrary. It denotes our being overcome and subdued by one of these principles. As we say, A man is in love, or in drink, that is, overcome by it."

Read Romans 12:1. "logiken latreian" It is translated "reasonable act of service" or "spiritual act of worship" The Greek word latreian can mean either worship or service and was used to describe the duties of Old Testament priests.

"Biblical Greek. Here the meaning is always religious. leitourgia in the OT is limited to priestly and Levitical administration. In the LXX it renders chiefly the Hebrew abhodha (5656) (from abad (5647)) which signifies service to God, specially undertaken by priests and Levites (e.g. Num.8:25; Lk.1:23; Heb.8:6; 9:21). In Christian Greek there is the additional meaning of brotherly beneficence operating in the local church, seen as a sacrifice to God.

"St. Paul speaks of himself being 'offered,' as upon an altar (Ph.2:17), and Epaphras as sacrificing almost his life to supply the Philippians' lack of leitourgia (2:30). He uses the word to indicate the almsgiving of Corinthian believers (II Cor.9:12). St. Clement speaks of leitourgia of each Christian apparently in the context of the Eucharist (41:1), and later in connection with the bishop's office.(44:3,6).The placing of the word leitourgia in the context of the Eucharist so early in Christian history naturally raises the question whether this term, having a strong sacrificial sense in Biblical Greek, does not figure in the same context in the NT. Is not Paul referring thereby to the offertory gifts at the Breaking of Bread

Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

Transformed is:

Metamorphoo (g3339) met-am-or-fo'- o; from 3326 and 3445; to transform (lit. or fig. "metamorphose"): - change, transfigure, transform.

2 Cor 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

THE OTHER SCHOLARY PERVERSION OF ROMANS 14.
Those identified by Diet in the marketplace were all addicted to the use of instrumental music to traffick as the "spirits" or "demons" inside. Paul stops the self-pleasure so that the ekklesia or synagogue could take place as a Bible Class ONLY.

Jesus cast the musical minstrels out "like dung." He identified the MEN of that generation like CHILDREN piping, singing and dancing in the agora or marketplace.   Click to see that ACU and the not-ready-for-prime-time preacherlings do not understand that Jesus repudiated them and consigned them to places of pagan worship, food stalls, selling of radishes and young boys.
Isaiah III. For, behold, the Lord, Yahweh of Hosts, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah supply and support, The whole supply of bread, And the whole supply of water; [2]  The mighty man, The man of war, The judge, The prophet, The diviner, The elder, [3]  The captain of fifty, The honorable man, The counselor, The skilled craftsman, And the clever enchanter. [4]  I will give boys to be their princes, And children shall rule over them
This declares with certainty that the wise or sophists and takers of tithes and towers or rostrums will NOT be in His kingdom. See 1 Corinthians  commentary on Isaiah 33. Since Jesus repudiated the doctors of the law why should anyone do other than mock them?
John Owen According unto those ways which in especial any of them attended unto were they severally denominate. Generally they were called "wise men ;" as those of Egypt, Genesis 41:8, and of Babylon, Daniel 2:12,13. Hence we render magoi , the followers of their arts, "wise men," Matthew 2:1. Among the Egyptians they were divided into two sorts, ÁyMifur]jŠ and ÁypiV]kŠm] , Exodus 7:11; the head of one sort in the days of Moses being probably Jannes, and of the other Jambres, 2 Timothy 3:8. We call them "magicians and sorcerers."

[23]  For they also built them high places, and pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and under every green tree; [24]  and there were also sodomites in the land: they did according to all the abominations of the nations which Yahweh drove out before the children of Israel.
None of the "scholars" understand the three sects in Rome all devoted to musical madness. In Romans 14 Paul OUTLAWED and did not include the DIVERSITIES understood under the title of DIET.  In Romans 15 he outlawed self-pleasure which points directly to all of the musical and theatrical events which "created mental excitement."  Then he defined the ekklesia, synagogue or church as a school of the Bible--only.

SEE ROMANS 14 BY RONNIE NORMAN.

Romans 14:1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

Eating was not part of the synagogue and outlawed for the church, so these would be excluded from discussion when the only discussion material was "that which is written" or "Scripture." Paul DID NOT say that you must accept everyone in the ASSEMBLY:

Proslambano (g4355) pros-lam-ban'-o; from 4314 and 2983; to take to oneself, i.e. use (food), lead (aside), admit to friendship or hospitality: - receive, take (unto).

What is commanded to be excluded:
Dialogismos often means the perverse, vain thinking which contemplates destruction. It was used to describe the reasoning of those who thought themselves wise (Ro 1:21, 1Cor 3:20)

NIDNTT notes that.. The thoughts of the human heart do not necessarily lead, as the Greeks thought, to a knowledge of the truth (cf. 1 Cor. 1:21-25), but are evil (Mk. 7:21; Matt. 15:19), full of doubt and suspicion (Mk. 2:6, 8; Lk. 5:22; 6:8), moved by the passing moment (Lk. 3:15), full of greed (Lk. 12:17; 20:14), always concerned with the superficial (Mk. 8:16f.; Matt. 16:7f.) and full of sly calculation (Matt. 11:25; Mk. 11:31).

Because of the claim to want to become a MARKET DRIVEN Church:

2 Pet. 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

What is commanded to be included:

Rom. 14:19 Let us therefore follow after
the things which make for peace,

and things wherewith one may edify another.

Ronnie Norman proposes to destroy the peace so that he can impose the immoral practices of the Roman sects Paul excludes from the discussion in the asssemblies.  Edification in the church is only through speaking and excludes music.

How edification is to take place in the ekklesia or church:

Aedificatio, III. Figurative, building up, instructing, edification. Absolute: loquitur ad Aedificationem Ecclesiae, Vulg. 1 Cor. 14, 12 ; ib. Eph. 4, 12.

The phrase loquitur ad Aedificationem Ecclesiae defines THE meaning of the ekklesia or church and the same METHOD excludes music of any kind--more later.

Loquor to talk, whisper; to speak, talk, say in the language of common life, in the tone of conversation;  instruction. The assured edification of his church. --Bp. Hall.

The PLACE where this quiet, calm non-pleasuring "teaching of one another" is the:

Ecclesia ekklŕsia, an assembly of the people.

As common sense would indicate, all of the SPEAK words are EXCLUSIVE in saying "the opposite of poetry or music.

ROMANS 15

Keith Moser. Chapter 6
For God hath shut up all unto disobedience, that he might have mercy upon all. (Rom. 11:32.)

"Human righteousness cannot fit man to stand in the presence of God. He cannot make for himself a "wedding garment" that God will accept. Mercy, then, is the great need of man. The law gave him a chance to save himself, and he utterly failed. Being disobedient, man must have mercy--grace; and grace having come, man is offered, upon the condition of faith in Christ, a divine righteousness, a righteousness that comes from God and one that God, therefore, will accept.

One is not clothed in Christ by faith only.
Gal. 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal. 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
NIV: Indeed, all of you who were baptized into the Messiah have clothed yourselves with the Messiah.
NASB: For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
Keith Moser: The law gave him a chance to save himself,
The lack of understanding of the "story line" and the Bible in general must be a requirement to write "theology."

The fact is just the Opposite:
  1. God rescued Israel by pure grace to keep His promise when they deserved to self-destruct.
  2. They went through the pattern of faith, repentance, baptism and receiving the Spirit to guide them.
  3. God gave them The Book of The Covenant of Grace.
  4. Israel rose up to play meaning the musical idolatry of the trinity.
  5. God turned them over to worship the starry host and gave them The Book of The Law which regulated outward conduct.
  6. At the same time the Qahal, synagogue or church in the wilderness was inclusive of resting, reading and rehearsing the Word.  It was exclusive of vocal and instrumental praise. h4774.  This never changed and existed and was affirmed by Jesus, commanded by the ekklesia, commanded by Paul and practiced by the church until both "theological" preaching and singing was added from paganism about 373.

  7. The Law was added as a CURSE carried out by the Civil-Priestly Complex the prophets call robbers and parasites.
  8. Those who were justified and called righteous walked by faith and were QUARANTINED from the sacrificial system which was identical to all pagan systems.
  9. By the time of Jesus the temple had been destroyed for centuries and the pagan sacrificial system WITH instrumental exorcism noise had ceased long ago.  Herod's Temple was not recognized other than as a "house of prayer." There was no sacrificial system in operation.
  10. Synagogues existed by the hundreds (some say thousands) in and around Jerusalem.
  11. Therefore, the people walked by and were justified by faith where worship means uniquely GIVING HEED to the Word.
  12. The work of Jesus was to shut down the "schools for doctors of the Law," temples, Scribes and Pharisees He called hypocrites by pointing to rhetoricians, singers and instrument players.
Cornelius lived while the Law was in effect but he was a just and righteous man because he followed the righteous commands of God:
Acts 10:22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God,
and of good report among all the nation of the Jews,
was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

Cornelius was dikaios or dike meaning justified and righteous but he was not saved nor added to the Church of Christ.

Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said,
Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
Acts 10:35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
Acts 13:26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham,
and whosoever among you feareth God
to you is the word of this salvation sent.

Keith Moser:
What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith: but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling; even as it is written, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense: and he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame. (Rom. 9:30-33.)
Again, before this is translated to mean faith only we should look at Paul's parallel statement which readers will already have learned.  They obeyed the law by faith even though they were not Jews. If they had not obeyed those natural laws they would have been doomed.
Rom. 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law,
DO by nature the things contained in the law, these,
having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
Rom. 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts,
their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean
while accusing or else excusing one another;)
Paul said that they were justified by DOING what was right.

Many Jews sought righteousness by virtue of being Jews: these people never did righteous deeds thinking they were justified.  However, ALL righteous Jews were justified by faith WHEN they walked by faith.
Gal. 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free,
there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal. 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

To be justified by FAITH inheres in the word PISTIS which includes to comply.

James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works,

when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

James 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works,
when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
If the scholars have problems with that then they do not know the meaning of "righteousness" and are in dangerious territory when they try to entice people away from believing that it was Jesus Christ who put faith AND baptism as that which SAVES because Jesus told me so.

People who live right and practice justice are those to whom the WORD of salvation is sent. Therefore, since ACU has changed its Driven Purpose and seeks to join with mystics and false teacher we might say that the are not justified in the eyes of those who may be more literate not having suffered under professors "exercising prophetic roles preparing advanced degrees to be channellers and facilitators" of carrying out the CHANGE in all of the "conservative Church of Christ."

These are quick notes: don't bow to Baal: Jesus didn't.
