Another Letter to the Elders warning about trying to steal the church. This letter will remain on the screen so you can read both of them.
Hohenwald Church of ChristThis letter is in response to a very nice letter received from a concerned elder of the Hohenwald Church of Christ where we have attended for some time. A copy is being mailed to each elder, deacon and preachers. Please consider its contents because it is from the heart of a Christian who cares and is concerned about the future of this congregation.
See the Grimes' letter to the elders and Bruce McIntyre which accuses them of false teachings: the loss of probably 100 members who tell the same story confirms this letter.
Advertisement: This is a review of the Hohenwald Church of Christ's CREED. It clearly shows a lack of the Biblical text, accuses the wounded lambs with being slanderers and liars but proceeds to CONFESS that they believe what they are accused of promoting. This contains very important Biblical information. While the elders who have usurped authorityas a BUSINESS MAN would take over his competition, they have also defined a Christian as one who has FAITH. We will show that Jesus came to TEACH and to give light: He did not die to give people authority to establish pagan "worship" rituals. His direct was to GO and:
Make DISCIPLES (by two equal participles) of those of faith:
- Baptizing them
- Teaching them to observe ALL that Jesus revealed.
"Disciples" does not mean worshipers: God came in the flesh to invite the FEW "of truth" to become STUDENTS. He does not need instructing according to Paul who defined their tongues as SPEAKING TO GOD which he said is JUST SPEAKING INTO THE AIR while He is GRIEVED because the STUDENTS will not sit down and shut up.
The DISCIPLES were identified as CHRISTIANS in the church at Antioch, a leading sender of missionaries. "Christian" means a follower of Christ and His teachings. Those who DO NOT NEED the Bible cannot be CHRISTIANS.
A person who has not been baptized for Christ to give them a washed or sanctified or A holy spirit CANNOT be called Christians. They ARE NOT.
It is not judgmental or leglistic to SPEAK where the Bible clearly speaks about what it takes to become a CHRISTIAN.
The "church house" or the members in a given location are the EKKLESIA but "church" speaks of a CIRCUS rather than assembly.
When the people ASSEMBLED or GATHERED in one place, it was to share the Lord's Supper. They were called a form of the Greek synonym of ekklesia or SYNAGOGUE.
A synagogue was a SCHOOL of the Bible and not a house of worship.
The Synagogue or church in the wilderness, the Qahal, outlawed instruments and "making a joyful noise" because the only GATHERINGS were for God to speak TO the synagogue or church. The more institutionalized SYNAGOGUE had no praise service because it would be insanity to do "church" in a School of Christ (Thomas Campbell).
The Teacher did not PREACH in the modern way but taught the Word "as it had been taught" and DIALOGED as in Troas for as long as anyone wanted to COMMUNE around the Word.
Paul never gathered in a church where they sang in the modern charismatic form which creates SPIRITUAL WARFARE. His only statement associates it with speaking in tongues, of warefare or the a brass version of the "familiar spirit" of the witch of Endor used by soothsayers and warriors to defeat the enemy.
Shortly we will open our NIGERIA page after noticing the WARFARE created by the Church of God who plans to "TAKE MORE LAND" from the muslims. Their worship rituals look identical to their TRIBAL songs, chants, hand waving and playing instruments to the beat of drums. These tribal customs were required for pagans because everyone had to be united for TRIBAL WARFARE. It is not fitting in Africa or Hohenwald where scholars note that: It only works with the lower classes and ignorant: women or the effeminate with no ASSURANCE provided to DISCIPLES. "Lord, Lord" sayers are simply lost souls who do not know God and God doesn't even know their name.
See a request for a critique of Russ Adcox's promotion of the Baptist Purpose Driven Church which is truly a cult. Not proofed but shows that the PDC is a mind control cult which uses the language of Hitler.

I am writing in reply to your letter of concern of May 19, 2003 and appreciate your concern and willingness to discuss church matters. This letter of response was started soon after receipt of your letter but have been waiting to see if rumored teachings and practices were real or imaginary. After hearing that some in leadership positions from this congregation have participated in denominational services among other questionable things decided to wait no longer. Your letter may have been a form letter mailed randomly or a letter of real concern. I prefer believing the latter because I know you are a caring and concerned person. I had talked with you before concerning questionable practices in the church. For me this is a better medium as I have some problem recalling what I want to say and verbally communicating those thoughts. I am not hiding behind this letter and would gladly meet with any elder, deacon or preacher one at a time if any should see a need
Until recent years and under the leadership of elders who were not swayed by every wind of change, the Hohenwald Church of Christ was a typical, conservative church. Conservative to me means worship the way it has been done for hundreds of years, relying only on our understanding of the Bible, speak where the Bible speaks, etc. leaving out anything that is questionable in teaching and action and liberal to me means getting just as close to the cliff as possible hoping not to fall off, adding denominational teachings and practices one by one in an effort to be more pleasing to those outside of the church.
It involves removing the mention of sin, diminished importance of Baptism bap , use of the NIV bible and incidentally the NIV is published by the same folks that publish the Satanic bible. Think closely about how seldom Sin or Baptism are mentioned in a sermon.
The Hohenwald Church of Christ was an anchor in the county due to its location, size and soundness. Obviously, no congregation has reached perfection but that is what is desired. Years ago, one could worship in any congregation in the county and almost any in the country and feel safe, comfortable and secure in what was going to be taught and practiced.
Sadly, that is not the case today and that is not the case with this congregation.
Our early years as a family were spent mostly at the Hoh. Cong. We participated in nearly every activity, bus ministry, class teaching, etc. and even though we were in the lower income sector, were accepted and included in all fellowship activities.
We left to go to Lomax only because our children became teens and Lomax was attractive to them. We enjoyed our years at Lomax also but then moved across from Springer. After a while we decided to attend there again, after all it was where I attended since 1946, became a Christian, swept up dead wasp before every summer service and built a fire before every winter service. I had hoped and was told that the preacher/elder rule would soon end. I didn't like then and still don't like one man church rule. It is my understanding that this has ended with no elders but still dictated by the preacher.
I truly believe the bible condemns this form of leadership as well as the form that allows a group of elders to rule without regard to the wishes of the membership. After a few years we decided that form of leadership was not going to change and decided to attend here still hoping the many negative things we had heard were not true.
I have high respect for nearly every person who is an Elder or Deacon but am afraid the Lipscomb, ACU Charismatic, liberal influence has and is making a radical change in a direction that will open doors that do not need to be opened. These changes sometimes are made unintentionally and some times intentional in a subtle, and yes possibly slow and sneaky way.
There have been numerous changes throughout the years which were not harmful because they were not doctrinal and had no harmful spiritual effect,
but doctrinal changes cause discomfort, anxiety, discontent and definitely have a critical effect on one's salvation.
Solos A by the preacher, (if this seemingly harmless practice is continually accepted by the leadership then possibly other entertaining items will be slipped in), quartet singing accompanying comical slide presentations, applauding after baptism, over abundance of praise, chorus type songs, exclusive use of the NIV bible (it is my understanding that this version is always used by those wanting to make changes because it was designed to be non-controversial, pleasing to the ear and acceptable by the masses), and other questionable practices those in the county talk about, things that you know of, have a tendency to make one uncomfortable just sitting there wondering what else of a denominational nature is going to be injected next.
(Elder), wonder why this congregation is known throughout the county as a Liberal Congregation"? Wonder why so many families have left for other more conservative congregations? Wonder who is responsible and do you think they really understand the magnitude and potential danger, the effect it may have on our salvation and especially the elders since they are responsible and accountable for the salvation of so many souls.
Wonder why sound worship practices need changing? Have we done like some of the churches of Asia, lost our first love for the sake of being more acceptable in the community?
Preaching should be directed toward edification, learning, salvation and not short funny, personal stories without even the mention of a plan of salvation or Baptism. Wonder why that word Baptism is such a difficult word to say? I keep looking for that word to be mentioned in a sermon but have only heard it a few times and mostly recently. Each Sunday we arrive, hoping to be led in songs other than repetitious one line praise songs, hoping the service will end with the preacher telling the lost what to do to be saved and hoping to get through the service without wondering when the women will lead the prayer, an instrument will be used or a real live quartet perform.
The elders only have to look around the state and country and see what the influence of people like Max Lucado 1, Rubel Shelly 2, Steve Flat, Lynn Anderson 3, Promise Keepers 4, Jubilee 5 etc. have done to congregations like the Madison Congregation with a traditional service and one for liberals (those who like a mixture of Baptist and Pentecostal added) and a change of name for other congregations such as Family of God, Community Church, etc. rather than Church of Christ. Many other congregations have changed names, worship practices, etc. including the West End congregation, fourth street in Franklin and Woodmont Hills. It is my understanding from a member of the Graymere church that the son of the preacher of the Centerville church has started his own church in Columbia with piano, etc as a result of his "Liberal Christian College Training". I attended Freed Hardeman and believe in Christian education but nearly all of the discord, division and liberalization is the fruit of relaxed standards and infiltration of liberal professors in our Christian colleges. They dictate (to the gullible and those spiritually weak enough to follow) what is acceptable worship, what changes need to be made, how much preachers should charge, etc.. There are numerous books detailing how to gradually implement these changes so as not to alarm the membership.
Can you imagine an overflowing crowd as a result of a return to sound bible teaching and worship practice with the return of those who have moved to other congregations or more often just quit attending? Can you imagine what would happen if as much emphasis were put on benevolence as on preaching and singing? I once heard a preacher say that the bible taught more about benevolence than how to be saved. I don't know if this is true or not but the Madison congregation grew by leaps and bounds as a result of their benevolence and spiritual soundness and they have been torn down the middle by change agents, people with their own personal, destructive agenda. Obviously benevolence cannot be a cover-up for unscriptural or questionable practices.
If we could turn the clock back a few years to see free volunteers working with the youth, volunteers doing everything except the preaching, underprivileged youth getting to be a part of every activity, youth not having to have wealthy parents to be able to take trips, songs that everyone knew, plan of salvation being mentioned in every sermon, use of a Bible version that was not designed to please and change, wouldn't that be great? We had growth, there were still those that left but not because of questionable and uncomfortable worship practices. There will always be those like our family that decide to change congregations for personal reasons. I'm not sure there is any problem with that as there doesn't seem to be any bible authority condemning it. If there is a problem, then preachers would have to always be under the oversight of the same group of elders. They would also not be allowed to move.
The Community Church movement is in progress in so many areas. This movement allows for inclusion of some Baptist, Methodist, Church of God, etc. teachings and practices. It usually means temporary, numerical growth and permanent spiritual decline.
Be careful that this is not the long range plan. This movement never is fully announced, is slow to happen and usually done in a less than open fashion until it is too late.
These changes usually allow for denominational preachers filling our pulpit and our preacher and other church leaders preaching in denominational churches. This might be done under the guise of an opportunity to teach them the truth but their participation is a compromise and adds credibility to religious error To fellowship denominational churches is to say that one church is as good as another and it really doesn't matter as long as one has faith.
This movement sometimes is preceded by large physical building programs and does not fully mature as long as there is a substantial debt to be paid. It always includes a diminished importance of Baptism 6 and an inclination towards a "faith only"calvinistic belief.
We have extremely fond memories of our earlier years at the Hohenwald congregation with many social events in our home and the homes of others. We have good memories of our kids growing up with yours and others. We were never uncomfortable regarding the direction of worship services as we are now. We continue to attend hoping for that Miracle that Jerry Durham believes still happens. Since I don't believe in miracles I just have to hope that you and the other elders will overthrow the shadow that hangs over the congregation and return the church to it's sound, steadfast, uncompromising and rightful place in the community as well as acceptance among the other sound congregations. There is no doubt that the congregation as a whole is a very caring group. This was evidenced when I was in the hospital. Spiritual soundness along with that intense caring could make seats hard to find and budgets easy to meet.
We always enjoy worshipping at the East Main congregation in Tupelo where Janice's parents attend and helped form. The worship service, including singing is like it used to be here. There is no uncomfortable feeling since nothing of a charismatic, liberal nature would be allowed. The attendance is middle America, attendance of 200-250, contribution around $5000 and no Lipscomb, ACU, Harding, Lucado or shelly influence.
You may ask with all I have said why we continue attending. I guess we have been hoping for a change here or at Springer where we probably would go if the preaching, leadership situation changed. We have fond memories of our earlier years here and like everyone. I know that to question or disagree with the leadership or preacher is a no, no and one is considered a troublemaker by doing so but to not question or challenge is to accept error and that is exactly what has happened in so many churches and even countries. We, along with so many other members of this congregation have hoped and prayed for a return to the sound church that we once knew. We also pray for the defeat of any who attempt its destruction.
You didn't ask for all of this when you sent the letter and I could not have adequately covered my feelings verbally. I am sending a copy to each elder, deacon and preachers but it will be the extent of my effort. I do not believe one should just walk away or sit quietly nor do I want to do anything to speed up the eminent destruction of this church. Stay alert because there are many (and yes some in this congregation) who have been tutored by Max Lucado, Rubel Shelly literature, Promise Keepers, Liberal Christian Colleges and others in ways that continue to destroy the church and sadly, too often, they appear sincere believers in what they are trying to accomplish. If you can find the root or reason why Baptism and/or the plan of salvation is rarely mentioned you will discover just how much the Baptist doctrine of "faith only" C has crept in. It is obvious to many that major changes have and are taking place that questions the leaderships long range goals.
This is witnessed by the recent resignation of a very sincere, sound and dedicated Christian family. I am sure they left because they could see no light at the end of the tunnel. Others will leave as they finally give up but this could be a part of the overall strategy of eliminating any who are in disagreement. B
Thanks again for the letter of concern. My ability to work long hours is gone. I am collecting a little fishing equipment, have a membership at the Wilderness preserve and hope the fishing bug hits me hard. Hopefully I have not made too many mistakes either in typing or substance. My intent is not to make enemies and I hope this letter offends no one although that is probably impossible. I don't think that I am perfect, in fact I know better than that, or that I have all the answers but I believe you will agree that the Church is in jeopardy as long as there are those who wish to destroy it or change it to a meaningless denomination or social group.
We will visit other congregations and our prayer is that this church's leadership will rethink its role, responsibilities and desires for serving God rather than man. We have some lifelong friendships here and hope this letter will not end that relationship. The enclosed two sheets, a test, is only a sample of the error and omissions contained in the NIV, a version used extensively in this congregation.

Russ Adcox: The Purpose-Driven Model: Tips for Making It Work However, This has nothing to do with the ekklesia formed by Jesus Christ. He fired the doctors of the Law because they took away the key to knowledge. Paul's unique WORSHIP word means to GIVE HEED to the Words of Christ and His apostles. There are NO PROGRAMS in the church. When the elders demanded SET A KING OVER US God warned of a pyramidal STRUCTURE like that of Babylon so that pals can also ride on the backs of the widows and hard workers. Sure, even forcing a TITHE and confiscating the young men to MAKE INSTRUMENTS OF CHARIOTS to toot the peasants out of the King's way.
A. Solos: No, the Bible doesn't speak of SINGING in the first instance. Rather, the direct command it to TEACH or PREACH. The resources are the Inspired Biblical text or "that which is written," the singing (secular) and melody (destructive) was in the HEART. In the synagogue or ekklesia they read the TEXT and they spoke one to another in DIALOG. The clergy PRECENTOR was one of the "first heresies largely pervading the church." Came after preachers.
B. Hegel: The Hegel Dialectic defines the Post-Modern church. First, you do a building program even if you have to bait and switch. You collect as much money as you think that you can get and then tell them they "have no right to make suggestions." The PROGRAM is to get the new structures paid for before you deliberately chase off the original owners: that is you "steal the church houses of widows." You infiltrate and divert: much cheaper than building a charismatic, denominational church. Machiavelli, appealed to by Rubel Shelly led the way for the Change Agents.
Faith Only: Luther coined the phrase Sola Fide or Faith only. However, Luther's comments were followed by Thomas Campbell. Luther said that faith only must have a OBJECT and that object meant SCRIPTURE ONLY. Faith only, he said, meant faith in BAPTISM because Jesus put the power there.

6. Baptism Index. List of Max Lucado repudiating Baptism. The SECT of the know nothings repudiate the Bible and 1525 years of church history. Zwingli claimed that he invented BELIEVER'S BAPTISM which is pagan baptism.
7. The FOUNDATION principle of the gospel for our FAITH, or the MOST IMPORTANT foundation for US is Baptism for or in order to the forgiveness of sins. Faith or trust leads to Baptism where Jesus washes us of our sins: Jesus made the DIRECT STATEMENT. "Believeth not" does not mean WITHOUT FAITH: it means that to reject baptism makes one treacherous. Rejecting or minimizing baptism means to call God a Liar. They are not just ignorant: they are evil and there is no redemption for them.
Your misleaders are betting YOUR SOUL that Jesus, the Bible and the totality of church history until recently is WRONG and THEY are RIGHT. I'd think about it from time to time.

It has developed at an abnormal rate, even for evil. It has worked like leaven until the whole lump ferments.
The devil has seldom done a cleverer thing than hinting to the church that part of their mission is to provide entertainment for the people, with a view to winning them.
"From speaking out as the Puritans did, the church has gradually toned down her testimony, then winked at and excused the frivolities of the day. Then she tolerated them in her borders.
Now she has adopted them under the plea of reaching the masses.
"In vain will the Epistles be searched to find any trace of this gospel of amusement! Their message is, "Come out, keep out, keep clean out!" Anything approaching fooling is conspicuous by its absence.
They had boundless confidence in the gospel and employed no other weapon.
"After Peter and John were locked up for preaching, the church had a prayer meeting but they did not pray, "Lord grant unto thy servants that by a wise and discriminating use of innocent recreation we may show these people how happy we are." If they ceased not from preaching Christ, they had not time for arranging entertainments. Scattered by persecution, they went everywhere preaching the gospel. They turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6). That is the only difference!
Lord, clear the church of all the rot and rubbish the devil has imposed on her, and bring us back to apostolic methods.
"Lastly, the mission of amusement fails to effect the end desired. It works havoc among young converts. Let the careless and scoffers, who thank God because the church met them halfway, speak and testify.
"Let the heavy laden who found peace through the concert not keep silent! Let the drunkard to whom the dramatic entertainment has been God's link in the chain of the conversion, stand up!
"There are none to answer. The mission of amusement produces no converts. The need of the hour for today's ministry is believing scholarship joined with earnest spirituality, the one springing from the other as fruit from the root. The need is biblical doctrine, so understood and felt, that it sets men on fire. Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1834-1892
This is an end-time unique effort to diminish Jesus Christ Who is Jehovah- Saved. History knows of no credible heresy about THREE SEPARATED PERSONS until spread by BIBLE STUDY LITERATURE from The Gospel Advocate and then taken to the terminal sin of preaching and even worshiping three gods.
We will post a letter to one elder.
You may discuss this in an OPEN FORUM by Clicking Here. Defend, refute but we are going to show any literate Bible student that this is as heretical as one can get. It only happens after postmodernism learned at extortion fees declares that the Bible is a gonner except a few facts ABOUT Jesus and I don't see how they can BELIEVE even that. The effect is Jesus Only which is Anti Christ.
Worship, Thanksgiving and Music. Paul's exclusive "worship" word for the assembly (a form of synagogue or school of the Bible) was to GIVE HEED to Christ by giving heed to His Word which is the Spirit of Truth. Paul comanded that we glorify God with ONE MIND and ONE MOUTH by speaking "that which is written." Rom 15. Paul commanded SPEAKING OR TEACHING using the inspired Biblical poetic material a the way to GIVE THANKS (Eph 5). In Col 3 he commanded the same Biblical resources to TEACH and ADMONISH. The "music" word demands singing, instruments and dancing as in secular parties. External melody is a WARRIOR'S term.
When Paul said, "Don't get drunk with wine" he included music.
